  1. i think you need the sigma diff as well, i'm using a EX1800 gearbox/driveshaft/diff, i've been told its the same as the sigma's (except stronger gearbox, and the shifter position might be different so you might need to cut a hole in your gearbox tunnel) and i know with mine i needed to swap all 3. the driveshaft should be two piece but there are mounting holes on your lancer for it.

i can't guarantee all this, i only heard it over the net. should be easy enough to measure it up though.

    cheers

  2. not sure about 4g5*'s, i thought they were Astron engine's and if you're going to go that way you may as well use the 2.6, apparently there's one around auckland somewhere with one thats pretty quick but i've never seen it, only heard about it. there are carby 4g63's (2 litre's) out there in sigma's and galants and they'd be a bolt in fit. i don't know much about astron engine mounts but it wouldn't be hard to fabricate something if they weren't a direct bolt in

i haven't got a spare 5 speed gearbox but there are 2 EX lancer's and one of the earlier one's (A73?) out at avondale pick a part at the moment, all manuals. not sure if they're 4 or 5 speed but at least one of them is a 1600 so it should be 5.

  3. engine and gearbox are easy, mitsi used the same mounts for all the sirius/cyclone engines back then (1600 up, not sure about the 1200's) so everything should bolt straight in. not too sure about the driveshaft though, i know my 4g63t had a different yoke than the 1600 i had in it before that but i swapped the driveshaft and diff anyway. would be harder in your car cause i can't think of any other diffs that would fit into leaf spring mounts. pm me if you need any info, i've learnt a shitload about early mitsi's while doing my conversion.

  4. i saw an old lady in a red 2 door ke10 around wairau park the other day, i would've chased her but she was going the other way. first time i've ever seen one in the flesh and it looked pretty tidy.

there's a blue rx4 sedan that these 2 old guys drive around bayswater as well, looks about as mint as you can get them these days, plus there's a orangeish p510 sedan i see down devonport fairly often, another old guy driver. at least they look after them i say, just wish i had the money to make them a decent offer.

  5. its a SOHC 4G63T out of an old turbo galant. they also came out in some of the rwd sigma's, starions and actually in EX lancer's but only in england. there is an 1800 turbo version that you see occasionally over here and i managed to score a wreck which i got most of my parts from. used rear disc brake diff, 2 piece driveshaft, wiring loom, computer, black interior, 5 speed gearbox and a shitload of other bits and piece's. i've got some front struts coming with better brakes and i'm rebuilding the diff and rear brakes at the moment. i used starion engine mounts but they are exactly the same as stock 1600 (and i think 1200) mounts except for a locating pin hole. i've also got 3" compressed springs with shortened struts, 15" mags and a few other goodies. everything was pretty much bolt in, easy as if you know a bit about cars, plus i got heaps of information from the net.

it goes hard, its not really safe to drive in the wet, especially til i sort out my front brakes. i'm trying to find an intercooler plus i'm putting the parts together for a turbo upgrade at the moment then i'll get it dynoed and take it for a run down meremere but i'm a bit broke at the moment so it could be a while

about the best EX lancer site there is: http://www.lancerregister.com/forumdisp ... forumid=31

    and a few pic's of my car: http://mitsi61.freeserverhost.com/galle ... p?album=13

its a bit rough bit its my 'surprise' car :D

  6. there was an rx4 wagon f/s on trademe within the last couple of weeks, some guy's imported a couple of them recently. you couldn't see much in the photo though, it just showed the front. i prefer the coupes myself but they have to be superlow to look real good

  7. that 626? i've always had a soft spot for them, and i like the land barge styling. i reckon old school.

i've got an 81 lancer, just wondering what people consider that? sure its pretty boxy but its got a fair amount of chrome, rwd, power options? hell no! mine however does have fuel injection although it wasn't stock. i thought it was a good idea though cause i'm not really a fan of blow through carby turbo setups :D

i considered putting my money into an older lancer but i didn't want leaf rear suspension and choices for a bigger diff were made easier going this way.

    cheers

    Matt

i'm not too worried either way, i've got guaranteed old school with my celica anyway
