So there was a stout for sale in WA recently, I messaged the guy to check it out and suggested a possible swap for my crown.
the stout is a stout cab on a Hilux chassis, 2001 chassis with a 3RZ with 160KKM's apparently. Body mounts to chassis are done fairly well, but they've mounted the cab on an angle for some reason. The tray is a bit rusty, but not hard to find a decent replacement. Cab is a little rough with some rust. Basically I'd make up some spacers to get the cab straight, replace the tray, tidy up the roof and put a coat of paint on it, then drive it lots
This swap could never be engineered in WA for various reasons so if it gets stickered it's rubbish/put it on a boat to NZ and try and recoup my money
the crown is my RS41, it's a bit rough around the edges, engine mounts should be redone at some point (whole brackets from chassis rather than just the rubber mounts), there's some rust in the bottom of the doors and coming through around the rear guards. It's got a 22R swap with a 350 Holley, it's a bit of a pig because it's over carbed and there's a few other minor bits sues which I've been meaning to sort but never get around to.
this is also technically illegal because the engine swap isn't engineered. It could be, but if I take it over the pits they're going to pick up the rust and a bunch of other stuff. If it gets stickered it would be uneconomical to repair and probably end up getting parted out
we both value our cars around the $5K mark, he's keen for a swap, and I'm mostly keen. Stout is rougher but engine and niceness to drive make up for that in my opinion
everyone I talk to reckons I'm crazy to consider it, I reckon it's a reasonable deal, am I blinded by the stout-ness and missing something? I know things like this are all personal opinion but I'm interested to hear what you all think?

Theres a Toyota Scout ute (badge said Scout-something) in Ohiniwai or was a couple weeks ago, took a photo but cant find cable for phone. It was next door to the hall and on top of a shipping container, had modern tray, might have been a tipper.
*Toyota STOUT!!!
The badge will say Stout Lite because it's 5 stud. The modern tray is just sitting there. The guy imported it, its potentially for sale but he wants crazy money

It's been ages but pretty sure the paint was pretty rough. It was heaps lighter than the pic though, just a shit photo in shit weather

no pic sorry but saw a mint looking silver MS65 crown coupe on grey/gunmetal 5 spoke 17" wheels yesterday on taupo lakefront
I think some people were speculating about how many of such things still exist?
This one? Pic from Kumeu hot rod show earlier this year. Sounded very V8 like

There should a few things that don't add up on that 'prototype' 2000GT, it's been for sale on and off for at least a few years. There's got to be a weird story, or something very dodgy behind it

I've actually been making HEAPS of progress, decided I wanted to get it to the car show I help organise on Sunday, Toyotas at the Quay, so I've been putting in lots of hours. Cleaned the engine and box, replaced everything I could think of/easily get, painted a bunch of stuff, cleaned up some firewall rust, modified the KE26 gearbox crossmember, did all the associated manual swap stuff to the formerly auto KE15
A friend bought me extractors so fitted those and got a new exhaust made. Home tuned the carb, had massive problems getting it running right and it's still not quite there drove it to the exhaust shop with just headers which turned into a 4 hour mission with lack of power, a carb rebuild, a loss of clutch cable, a breakdown, pushing the thing out of traffic twice, side of the road bodge ups, etc. fun times when you're rushing things
Still got lots more finishing touches but it's running and driving fairly well so I'll let the pics tell the rest of the story.
Oh, and a mate loaned me his watanabes, I'm not much of a fat tyre fan but these things really suit it. Still need to take an inch or so out of the height in the front

That question about tail lights is from one of the guys on here, he's chasing a pair for his wagon
lol, I actually remember his real name but not his user name, usually that's the other way round

Bring back from the dead!!! Considering the 40K crown ute on trademe at the moment that is 'known to be the only one in NZ' I was wondering if anyone still had a pic of the one mentioned in this thread? 95% sure it's not the same one
cheers

I already tried to buy it, he's not keen. Reckons he's collecting the set, has the wagon, 2x2 door sedans and a 4 door sedan back in NZ.
Fluked the wagon find when him and some mates were picking up a cheap bus to take to scrap and it was just sitting there in a field. 1 owner, she retired it 8 years ago when she lost her licence. Such a shame it just sat there, it's pretty rough now, but definitely fixable
If anything comes up I'll keep you in mind though, it's crazy what's still sitting around in WA, it's just a matter of finding it

Considering how fucking rare both these cars are, it's pretty random that my mate came across the carina version today.
while I was hitting Wikipedia to make sure I wasn't going full retard I also noticed that this exact car is used for the wiki entry on the 2nd gen carina
cheers

Love the truck, one of my dream builds
just so you know, W50 is different to the W55/56/57/58 boxes, the rest will all go in place of each other but the 50 is its own design. The good news is that they were commonly used by the Ford/Chev V8 crowd for drag racing because they're pretty tough, it should be fine for a 350 unless you're getting pretty crazy with it
cheers

Tubs are pretty rare in Aussie too
i dailied my old 620 for about a year. Super reliable but pretty uncomfortable. I'm 6'1" and it was the angle of the seat that got annoying, just had a sore back a lot. If you're shorter it'd be better because you can move the seat forward and get more angle on the back, I just didn't have the leg room
fuck it was cool though. I do miss it.

Crown vs Stout, what would you choose?

Both isn't an option, partly money, partly I've got way to many cars at the moment
seems like crown is the right decision for now. I've got a couple of mates who are keen on the stout so hopefully I'll get another chance at it down the track
