that sandstone they're putting down at woodhill is dry and hard as rock.  Fast but slippery as shit with the wrong tyres   

hasn't rained a hell of a lot lately so id assume pretty dry yeah.  haven't been for a month, hence the trip up there.  have gone 440, waitawa, maraetai, hunua and puni instead.

I reckon the loop doing tuhoto ariki up to split enz, pondyDH, roller etc should be great in summer.  spreads the climbs out rather than the moerangi rd slog up to SplitEnz from say.. billyT.

vegas trails are running pretty good at the mo. except tuhoto ariki which was bog after bog

apparently all old trails are out of bounds this week incl the far side new trails 'offthegrid' 'not4granny' and '1st addition'.  so doing loops of 1nightstand and release valve etc.

Time warp - frankenfurter - riffraff - rocky horror.  So I must've done rocky horror last sat.  mucky bolder strewn valley place.  Had to fully commit to a few spots.  def gona be easier when dry! loved it though.  

sweet.  Im the dickhead doing shuttles on an xc hardtail lol.  (black 2011 26" apollo compx).  holy shit there's some pretty techy tracks at vegas if you know where to find em.  'riffraff' which was signposted was trickier than the illegals.  (grade 5).   starts just before Split Enz on the right off Loop rd and joins chestnut link onto rollercoaster.  wouldn't recommend doing it with the forks locked out heh oops. 

yeah I get overtaken uphill like im sitting still sometimes.  some mental fit freaks around!

i'll be at rotovegas this sat with a group of 9 so far with various skill level, doing shuttles and whakarewarewa trails.  come join us if yas want.  specially if you've never gone.  Clinton knows the trails well.  says he'll show me the 'enduro' track.  should be interesting

i use strava for logging rides and comparing.  but no good as a map

reverse psychology and judgement call both hard slogs back up!  glad i'm not on a downhill bike heh.  I tried release valve when it first opened and the start was good but mid/end had no features to play on.

I'm hoping to get more rides on the old trails before they disappear.  not sure how much are open during the week though with the logging?

oh sweet.  yeah keen to ride all year.  have lights for woodhill wedn etc.  im about intermediate/advanced level but not super fit. 

im in pukekohe..  woodhill about 75-90mins to get there after work with traffic from Drury, and 65mins back to pukekohe on a clear run.

te hihi o tawa (sp) into billyT then bunch of others from there seems to be our thing.  love eagle vs shark but tend to leave that til last shuttle of the day.  I go vegas with this guy clinton  http://www.bikezest.co.nz/  Meet at bombay and take his van down for the day, flick him some gas money.  he knows the illegal tracks so takes us round those too.  nice an techy on the hardtail

hit up alex user alfeinted as he may have a few tt141 wagon bits.  he's in takanini.  I may have some engine bits.

Do you know why the pistons/rings scraped??   did you reuse the original pistons and rings.. or new rings?  did they go back in the same bores and were the ring gaps checked?

Im no engine builder... but pistons scraping like that may suggest not enough piston/bore clearance which wouldn't be a problem if bores were honed and original pistons fitted.  which would suggest ring fitment wrong or ring lands cracked.. but unusual for all four to fail at once? 

also advancing the ignition would make it run hotter?

Didn't wanna do it on easter weekend as too many peeps away.  could bring it forward a week but i wont be there unless its in afternoon.

prob too far out of your way.. my old man has his own wood workshop at Waiuku.  He setup what was the franklin mens shed so the stuff on facebook is doable.  Not sure if he's running evening classes anymore but i could ask?
