  2. ke10 and early ke2 with leaf front spring i believe had a 3 bolt steering knuckle.  would be same ball joint as a KP.  dont have vented disk tho.

EDit:  and they look totally different with ball joint sitting outside of the 3 bolts.  So its not corolla knuckles.

  3. 1g-eu manual says:

Use API grade SC, SD, SE, SF or better and recommended viscosity oil.

Gives a chart for recommended viscosity vs atmospheric temperture.

mega frozen balls to 10'C use 5W-30.  but dont.

-22'C up to 30'C you could use 10-30W.

    10W-40, 10W-50 starts at -22'C ish up above 38'C

15W-40, 20W-40, 20W-50 starts at -12'C ish up above 38'C.  seems 15W-40 is about the sweet spot for NZ temps.

    oil pressure (warm)

    at idle speed .. more than 0.3kg/cm2 4.3psi 29kPa

    at 3000rpm ...  2.5 - 5.0 kg/cm2 36 - 71psi 245 - 490kPa

says when bleeding lifters, dont pull them apart.

gives leak down test specs..   20kg takes 2 -7 seconds/1mm after the first 2mm.

  4. I wouldn't say it a big difference in power.  less weight in the ae82 so be faster than your ae101.   20v needs the revs to make power.  be curious to race a std fxgt!  I would've gone blacktop if i had a choice but picked up a complete ae101 for dirt cheap and had the setup sitting there waiting for a chassis.

Its a relatively simple conversion except for wiring which not everyone's cuppa tea.

flat spot...  maybe check tps position, map sensor and fpr hoses have no splits, put some injector cleaner in the tank. um, check water temp (green) sensor is plugged in nicely.

  5. admit to having soft spot for ae82's.  learnt to drive in dads old fxgt.  not much original in the one i have now.  20v ST,  using ae92 superlows from memory in a mix/mash ae92/101 brakes n suspensions.  rear upper spring cap needs ae92 version to fit coz different diameter.

    plenty 82 nutters on ae82.net

yeh nz new didn't have the oxy sensor.

see if you can track down the toyota yellow book for ae82 and the 1983 4age blue manual.  heaps of info in them. :)  should be able to download too.

  7. yeh 29ers just roll over everything better aye.  my mate on the 29 SJ pulls away if we are rolling side by side down a hill
(without any pumping etc).  great for trail rides.

29er stumpy won trail bike of year last year me thinks so lots would've been sold just from online reviews.   but so many good trail/AM/enduro bikes available these days, we're spoilt for choice if got that much money to burn.

  8. yeah good time to buy reverbs at mo!  (importing new from UK that is).   nz$328-376 delivered from chainreaction http://www.chainreactioncycles.com/nz/en/rockshox-reverb-seatpost/rp-prod84856 or nz$360 delivered from http://www.wiggle.co.nz/rockshox-reverb-remote-dropper-seat-post/

make sure take free shipping option to keep it under $400 otherwise may get pinged by customs for duty.

I'm finding wiggle is usually the best priced online store for parts.

reviews are often saying the fox 36 or BOS deville are better forks for 'enduro' but if price, weight, user friendlyness and servicing are priorities then Pike all the way.

im converting my hardtail to 1x10 from X9 26-39 11-32.  Ordered raceface narrow wide direct mount sram 30t from CR and sram 11-36 cassette from wiggle.  (I prob should have ordered the aftermarket 11-42 cassette but oh well).  Then i'll be swapping all the components over to a NOS Stork Adrenalin carbon 100 travel full suss frame and prob later build the hardtail as a single speed.

Also ordered two maxle skewers after losing the pike maxle :|  and XTR trail clipless pedals which are cheaper online than local priced XT trail, lol.

MTB not cheap when you're constantly upgrading

  9. im a shorty so 29ers feel like riding on cart wheels.  A mate rides a 2015 stumpy carbon 29er expert and it's a great do-everything bike, but i prefer the maneoverability of smaller wheels.  demo'd an enduro 650b and loved it.  demo'd a reign 1 and was great fun but bit too low/slack and downhill/race specific.

nah there's a huge difference in suspension feel in modern forks just by adjusting air pressures, setting sag, adding/removing tokens and tweaking compression/rebound settings.  not all forks are created equal so need to tweak em to suit.  Compared to the old Recon on my hardtail that only has rebound and a lockout, the new pike can be tweaked in so many ways.

  10. after a couple rides out at maraetai i've now joined up pcbc (have to be member for forestry access).  Some sweet trails been made out there.  pretty steep terrain using fireroad climbs to get to the downhill trails so legs get a hell workout.  But so many bermy jumpy techy flowy trails.  and there's shuttle evenings for people that help with their maintenance/building bees.  Another mtb mecca being built for auckland woot!
