  1. imo the gze intake is poos. small port (the later 16v head and intake) are better than the bigport. think i've seen people make mounts to sit the sc12 under an n/a intake manifold (got to push it out wider to clear the runners) which simplifies the intercooler piping and gains power. the problem is how much space you have to do this.

tiny tims 16v gze setup, before going 20v, now owned by zak. gives you an idea

turbo is definately faster and more efficient.. but sc is cheaper and easier. no turbo exhaust manifolds, dump pipes, bov's, oil feeds and drains etc etc.

mill 8mm off the underside of the rear bolt of SC mount and it sits on top of rwd ae86 engine mount. you may be making new mounts anyway

generally if it fits a rwd 4age block.. then it fits a fwd one.. the blocks have the old bolt holes and any new ones added

i'm doing the following to a 20v 4age, not yet finished

  2. 3tgte getting old aye.. if you do one.. consider a rebuild as part of the price. can use alot of pushrod bits for bottom end (bearings etc), but things like oil pump and chain guides arent cheap to replace. 250hp not hard to coax out of one.. just better turbs, 2.5" exhaust, fuel pump and injector upgrade, intercooler + bov and 15psi (depends on turbo). then get it tuned so it never ever knocks

but hangone... you live with hardout dudes that do v8 conversions and make own turbo manifs and shit.. i reckon get a dirt cheap gen2 3sge from st185/sw20 (or newer version if you can get cheap, gen3 3sgte FTW!) um then make own intake and exhaust, t3 turbo, make mounts, use 1S sump and oil pump, 1S/2C bellhousing and w55 or whatever can find cheap etc. dunno what you use for loom/ecu, maybe find 3sgte one, then fang the fuck out of it.. if you pop it.. get another short block and go fry some more rubber! mean

go talk to mark harrison.. he got some ideas

  5. more boxes for us eh!

condition of box also matters.. if its loose or worn then more likely to shatter gears. also read on the net that a W50 that originally came behind a 6cyl (m-eu ma45 for instance?) have larger bearings than one that come from a 4 (18rg or 3t).

They were also used in 6 cylinder Coronas and imported Crowns and in these applications they were fitted with a heavier-duty needle roller bearing in the front cluster. Unfortunately, you can't tell if this is the case until you pull it apart, but if you do and you find the roller bearing, you know the box has been in a 6 cylinder, a turbo model, or a diesel.

  6. i've heard of a couple guys running 5ltr v8s and breaking steel case W50 with a good ol thrashing. one is a VL commie with 308, high rise manifold, bug catcher, extractors etc

the alloy w55/w57/w58 are stronger and newer.. known to be good for 300+ hp

  7. ask a plumbing place if they can do that size internal thread. might get lucky :)

that would be a fricken huge tap if ever there was one!

otherwise any good toolroom/workshop should be able to turn an internal thread on a lathe. the depth of thread may be an issue tho.. a boring bar 150mm or more long may start to chatter. id guesstimate around $40-60 for the pair done this way?

  8. jay gti

i bought some te27 levin copy flares from 'ichiban motors' in da philippines but need filling and smoothing coz they're a bit rough.

could maybe try topline fibreglass in hamilton if they're still there. years ago they copied GG43's flares i was told

if you got heaps of money then keep an eye on yahoo japan auctions for genuine te27 steel flares. you'll have to compete with american buyers tho heh

didnt think the SL came with 3k-b or tacho dash.. or those jdm te27 wing mirrors!!
