  1. any updates on this?

surprised there be no mention of where the throttle is positioned. will make a big difference to how it operates. throttle before the sc is safe option. and does not necessarily require a bypass valve due to sc operating in a vacuum. the ABV you see on toyota sc12/sc14 are there to create an on/off boost transition when the charger is switched and gives better efficiency when transitioning off boost (but charger on). using these factory fitted abv in a setup that has throttle after sc may be too restrictive of air flow and could allow the s/c to create boost when throttle is shut. So it should be pointed out that in any setup with throttle after a positive displacement charger (roots), the setup MUST use a recirculating valve big enough to reduce pressure back close to atmospheric if you want any sort of reliability and economy when not boosting. not to mention extra noise created from the pulses being pushes through a restriction. not using one could be catastrophic due to bent/broken throttle shaft. roots + restriction = pressure. if you're lucky you'll pop a hose off. Funny how people without one complain of belt slipping or black dust around the drive belt. put throttle before roots and its not an issue.

A traction control butterfly could be an option for a bypass valve (throttle after sc) as they're often stepper motor controlled so long as you have the electronics to drive one. need to check it's air tight when closed.

The intake vacuum valve on a diesel could be an option. these are often operated via a diaphragm or stepper motor. not all types are air tight though.

A poppet valve ie 'external wastegate' are suitable so long as the diaphragm is large. The diaphragm has to overcome the spring pressure that's holding the valve shut. these are probably the most common valve used like in the HKS 4agze twincharge kit.

a BOV are not suitable due to their sudden release of air. (uncontrollable).

don't know about you guys, but i'd get pretty annoyed driving that orange twincharged volvo powered Kadett. The amount of charger noise that thing makes is horrible. Looks like he's running a parallel system blowing into a flapper valve with throttle after chargers. one of the very few! (never saw the logic in this compared to a series setup). and yes roots chargers make noise. factory setups don't usually use gilmours! The factory toyota setups are not too noticeable in noise due to them having the throttle before the charger. this effectively muffles the pulses eminating from the charger at partial throttle position and reduces how much air is actually being pumped when throttle is shut (running in a vacuum).. so reduces the medium for noise to travel. BUT swap the charger in front of the throttle and you have a direct noise path back up the intake. have any restriction after that charger and noise is more of an issue. The noise is most likely to come out of the recirculation system after the charger. The twin lobe roots chargers are pretty much the worst for creating inlet pulses. Toyota used an expansion chamber on the 2tzfze sc14 to reduce noise. search youtube for the sc 5k ke70 or ke35. borrrrrrrrrrr

There is an artical in think on autospeed.com about supercharging a prius for the author's missus. They tried various ways to baffle, muffle, suppress noise. The outcome was it was eventually canned due to noise. maybe not a consideration as a sprint/gymkhana car but i'd get pretty annoyed if it were a daily driver. (i'd compare it to open wastegates or fart cannons on auto vtaks). [insert puke face here]

one of the best sources of twincharge info imo is the eng-tips.com forum. see comments by 'warpspeed'. one insane car to come out of this is Donald's black evo5 twincharger in scotland or up that ways. user 'madmac666' or 'evomadmac' on youtube. his build thread is http://www.lancerregister.com/showthread.php?t=315815. impressive to say the least.

Interesting to note that in his compound charged system, heat was an issue. this was rectified by balancing the system and better efficiency from the charger.

ok nuff said. me like this subject. one day this will be done and i'll have my own experience on the subject... http://toycrazy.net/mark/KE25engine.htm

  2. discussions! mean

can peeps put up links to these places?

massey carpark looks pretty good aye. not too far out of town. trees for shade.

    http://maps.google.co.nz/maps?f=q&sourc ... 6&t=h&z=19

can't guarantee no dipshits will show up and do a skid au. its a car meet. pity, but thats how the cookie crumbles. won't book a venue thats overly anal about behavior. it'll backfire on us sooner or later

  3. sweet.. 22nd jan looks promising

yeah bellagio's was a bit of a scorcher :spiderman:

Cornwall, its a public park. first in first served i believe? there's a member on here who knows the land owner but nothing came of trying to get access to a paddock from memory. we could always start earlier and overrun the place heh. can't see the BDO boes getting there on time tho  definately bring bbq's haha. fail on wood burning bbq

ryan, i drove through that area recently and yeah theres plenty of carparks.. very little shade tho. will investigate more..

snoozin, im of the same opinion. but i'll give the oldschool boes one this time and see how it works out. (this could change if they don't give a fack).

  5. from memory a std 4a-gze crank pulley is 150mm dia. aftermarket ones range from 165-175mm like cusco and nevo etc. the early sc12 (aw11/ae92) had a slightly larger charger pulley around 115mm i think. later ones from ae101 a bit smaller. running around 8psi-10psi respectively from factory.

and its not revs that kill them.. it's creating too much boost, or pressure ratio, which adds too much heat into the system and cooks the rotor coating. above 14psi seems where poor efficiency makes it not worth the extra boost on sc12's.

the later sc14 was fitted to the 2.5ltr 4cyl 2tz-fze estima engine. charger pulley on that is 110mm and 7rib belt. 1ggze version has less ribs and i think slightly bigger pulley?

price wise.. trademe good cond' sc12's go for $150-250. sc14 $250-350. plenty available.

  6. mark aka 'mrtoymonsta' on garagedori recently bought one of these celica-camry (from member 'RA55') to rip the gearbox... is a RA55 GT. 18rgeu, w55 and F series IRS rear. disks all round but non vented. irs diff looks identical to the ta63/tt142 GT-T. almost like its a mix of ra63 running gear in an ma45 chassis.

    http://www.garagedori.com/showthread.php?tid=6386

looks like he's now on-sold the shell to LLR-ae70. could be worth asking for parts.

    http://www.garagedori.com/showthread.php?tid=6462

there are variations in the strut. these type i believe are closer in proportion to a ma45 celicaXX strut. ie the stub axle is larger and same as a ga61/ga71/ma61/mz11 size stub and hub/bearings, but yet still has the ae86 85mm bolt spacing. youll have plenty of bolt on vented disk options if you have this strut but in solid disk.

  7. seems like theres one easy solution. ditch that fucked wiring job and start with a non modified loom!

there not much that needs to be changed in a factory loom. basically give it power and earth to the right places. run your alternator, starter, tacho, oil/water sensors etc to the dash and it'll run like a factory one.

i dont recall having seeing an inj resistor pack on the bluetop? been a while tho. even though they're low imped inj.. maybe its in the ecu or something? anyone got definate proof of bluetop with inj resistor pack??? chasing a ghost?

yes some bluetop 4age have a resister thing in the engine bay. but this is to adjust idle enrichment. the ae86 engine and loom in my 25 has this (next to coil/igniter)... but the bluetop from my ae82 fxgt does not. manual shows ae82 has it bolted to r/h strut tower from mem?

where have you given power to the injectors/coil? is it the big fat black/orange wire coming out of eng loom above aircon (over top of cam cover next to dizzy). or has this been tapped into and fed rearwards etc?

did you suss the fuel pump relay? search up 'circuit open relay'. (found bolted to side of ecu in ae82). the wiring diag may be in that 4age manual link. it's basically a relay with two coils... one triggered by STA signal (start key), the other keeps it triggered via the 'FC' pin on ecu. (or the switch in an afm).

This is a 5 wire relay. two wires for fuel pump in/out. two power feeds from sta and FC to the coil, and coils have a shared earth wire.

could also rig up two relays to do the same job.

i have 4age and ae82 toyota manuals. if you need anything in particular from them let me know.

  10. i hear aw11 mr2 rear inserts work with those smaller diameter struts. google it or somethin.

easy option is keep the oil filled strut, and get a spacer made to sit between the valve thing and the top nut.. so the shock doesn't return fully to keep spring captive. then if the shock rate is a bit weak.. fill it up with thicker oil heh.

in my ke26 ive fitted ae85 struts, te28 steering arms, ae92GT shocks and king springs from a starlet. also need to fit camber plates and RCA's for best handling. not exactly low low, but a coilover setup and shortened strut housing would sort that. bit of work compared to just fitting short stroke shock.

more details on that here http://toycrazy.net/tech/ke2strutupgrade.htm
