Pete, I think the guy that commented on facebook might have been on the money about the ring turning and the gap aligning with the exhaust port.

Hey how about that, you’re right. Here is where the pin is and where the ring was sitting. I wonder 1. How did it happen? And 2. How long it might have been like that. Will do some research

  2. Any ideas on what has happened here to end up with a busted piston? Was doing lots of WOT for at least 15 mins, max cyl head temp was 186C. In its old setup with a different pipe and carb, I would regularly get to 210C on long periods of WOT, so I wasnt too concerned with the temps. I did run out of gas twice during the day, but I didnt think such short periods of low fuel would cause it to fail

Anyone got a good source for carb jets? I want some Keihin ones, n424-21 #42 and 357 #155, but online sources say out of stock. Will give the bike shop a call in the morning too.

I get mine from amazon generally, in kit form, having a good selection is so much better for tuning

From memory they are close, but don't fit.

Also most contra springs aren't on bearings, some don't even have the guides Suzuki and Honda have.

A good clean and a tiny bit of molybdenum paste does the trick a lot of the time, also have you ever fully stripped the pulley? They can gum up and give the symptoms your describing.

Oh and check the ramp slots in there too, if they've got notches worn in it'll jam up at times too.

If you do add a bearing make sure the spring doesn't bind up with it in.

True, I have a bit of play in my torque driver pins. I cant get the spring set off my torque driver. Maybe i will try buy a new suzuki one. Also interesting I have a SJ50 torqur driver currently, and the suzuki manual gives a me free spirng length of 110mm and this spring is like 70mm.

  6. Tuning on scooter is continuing. For some reason on a street magic, the contra spring has no bearings/sleeves to allow the spring to move without binding/jumping, unlike many other scooters. I am pretty sure I am getting some binding or spring jumping that is causing me to get funny results. When I do a top speed run, some times I can get 80kph at 10,000rpm, then after a while at top speed I can do 84kph at 9400 rpm. So next on my list is some doodads to make the spring move easier. I have seen ball bearing spring bases which look lush, but they do scare me a bit with the ball race not being sealed

This bike got a aftermarket alloy bash plate which amplifies the engine clutch noise when I remove bash plate it sounds way quieter.

Is there a product I can put between engine and and bash plate to absorb it?

Found a plastic factory one but $270 euro + shipping from Latvia not keen

I put rubberized paint on the inside of mine, as well as rubber pads around mounting. Made it a bunch quieter
