  1. i saw this in the march 2005 preformance ford

    Question

"I own a white mk1 sierra currently running a 1600cc bottom end with a 2 litre head and 45mm weber carb. I've acquired a 2 litre sohc engine and the question i'm asking is what is the highest bhp i can get out of this engine? what mods are needed to be done to reach this output and roughly how much will it cost? also, what is the largest cc you can bore the 2 litre to?"

    Answer

"the engine you've got hold of is a pinto. pintos can be pushed to around 250bhp as they are, but if youre taking capacity increase to 2.3 or 2.4 litres with a steel crank and rods, high compression pistons, major headwork, wikd cams, twin 50 webers, race spec ignition and an 8250 pound bill ($21500 nz). the pinto can go upto around 300bhp but thats with a warrior 16 valve head conversion and an even bigger bill. unless you're minted you're probably bst off sticking to the 125bhp mark for an outlay of 500-1000 pounds. this involves a bit of headwork and a mild cam which will work really well with your single weber"

hope that helps to clarify the output potential of pintos, i always see people debating the highest bhp available from it

  2. i must say doing 155 in my car was done from miles to kms as my speedo only goes upto 140kph plus i have different wheels so very possible i was doing less, also i was reading a magazine a couple of weeks ago that was looking at car speedos and it said that a new ford falcon was actually doing 94 when the speedo says it was doing 100 so who can really trust their speedos unless they get a proper speed tester or something

  3. i got a mk1 escort parts book a while ago, it has all 2 and 4 door and wagon parts except for anything relating to engines but it has all panels, dash stuff, interior, seats and suspension and other random stuff, of course the book is from england but it was used in a new zealand ford repair shop, i also have a mechanics mk1 repair book with what i think is all the wiring diagrams for mk1's including tacho's etc. so if anyone wants to know a part number or anything regarding these 2 books then just ask. it also has random info like mk1 1300xl's came with 6 dial dashes from 1972 onwards (only in england i assume), also on some things i can also give u the dimensions of bolts and screws. the parts book covers models including -1300e, gxl, xl, l, super, gt, standard, sport, twin cam, de luxe. it also has diagrams on banjo and koln rear axles and drive shafts, the pictures in the parts book arent there to show you how to put things together but i may be able to help with that too.

  4. eddie W are you sure the mk1 had superior drag coefficient, i thought it was more to do with the mk2 mexicos had 1600 pintos in them which weigh a ton compared to crossflows. a mk1 mexico 0-60 mph is 10.7 while a mk2 mexico 0-60mph is 11.1 and also every rs escort made (mk1 and mk2) was made for competition except for the mk2 mexico, thats what i read in the ford rs and mexico book anyway

  5. the honda one is crazy coz it runs on electric normally so when u get to the lights and stop the car turns off, but when u take off i just takes off straight away, its the opposite to the toyota one which runs on petrol normally

  6. ive done 155 in 4th in my 1300, my cars got no seals on the windows so i couldnt hear anything at that speed so i dont know what my engine sounded like and no tacho :?
