well havn't done to much on it, just been fixing it to get it's warrent, brakes seized and there was play in the steering box, and the fuel tanks has a leak, I mixed up a bit of steel putty and tried to patch the hole in the fuel tank. That didn't work, steering is fine was just a few loose bolts and for the brakes they were a piece of piss to just put new cylinders in the rear, So all i've gotta do now is decide weather to get the tank fixed or make a new 1, kinda wanna put a bigger tank in for when i fwork on the engine, if any1 can give me sum advise on fuel tanks pm me

You all proberlly know this but thought il'd have a rant anyway. HAd to get a wof for my cortina the other day, went to vtnz for some strange reason. They failed it on a few things, that's ok I can deal with it, I fixed everything minus the "play in the steering box" took it for a re check passed it all exept for the brakes werent even. So back home to bleed them again and try and get it stopping straight. I did this and went back to vtnz. I turned up there and the ex-mechanic losers that where on at the time decided my car wasn't gonna pass. The Re checked the whole car spent about an hour on it revving it and searching and searching for something to fail on. The decided there was a crack in the chassis or the bolts where loose where the steering box was mounted. and there was another exhaust leak. I went home and jack the car up and to no surprise there was no crack or movement in the chasis or mount. So now i guess all i can do is through shit at there building to make up for my wasted time and money, ******* fags

Thought Il'd do a bit on my car, why not hahaha, Brought it stock as, hitched down to taurange to pick it up, It's stock as running a 1500 pre cross flow, 4 speed collum change, only thing that has been done is disc's in the front.
Begining of september I got a mate to make me some new carpets, real nice black ones so much better than the crappy job the previous owner did.
Failed my wof cause of "play in steering box" and rear right wheel is jamed.
Put new brake cylinder in the back, bleed the brakes now she's sweet, well i thought she was sweet, but apparently they are weaker on the right side(still seams to stop fine), so that's what i've gotta sort out this week.
And as for the steering box, it was just those fags at grey lynn vtnz, they are to use to doing late model european cars, westgate didn't think there was a problem with it, saves me having to do a rick and pinot yet.
well that's it for now, i'll work out how to do picture one day and put some up

just changed the cortina from full comprehensive with asb ($1500) to vintage cover with aa ($80) so worth it just gotta keep it in the garage and not rack up to many k's. If you do use aa you have to ask for vintage policy otherwise they just sting you with full cover or tell you they won't insure you

dn't be shy, he dosn't want to spend to much, just a tidy car will do, as long as it doesn't have ridiculosly big rims and it's all in one colour it'll be sweet

Hi i'm just looking for a mk1 cortina for a mates wedding. It's gonna be in west auckland, so if any1 knows of any1 or has a tidy cortina pm me and we can suss it out. a mk2 could also be considered or even another little english ford that would look good with my mk1 tina
cheers

i was thinking 4 speed cause it's more genuine. I have a couple of type9's just dont really know if i want a 5 speed. I liked having a 4 speed in my mk2
-
yeah I was up working on the car on the weekend and was talking to some people and yeah decided to go for the pinto. I'll just build the engine up heaps. What I'm trying to decide now is what gearbox. I was thinking putting a rs2000 4 speed box in.
-
yea i supose it all comes down to what you going for. Reliability i thiink i would go with a 4age but... I want the enginebay to look neat, so I think i'll go for the pinto. 4age has to many wires and stuff. imo just doesn't look as tidy
-
what does a conversion kit consist of.
-
na rotors are lame, so sick of them. I'm clearing out the engine bay if i put a pinto in anyway. I'm gonna mount coil, bb and fuses under the dash and batt in the boot. So I guess this weekend when I go up to the car all i'll need to do is cut back the mount for the radiator and a hole for the gearlever. Does anyone have dimesions for gear stick hole for a 5 speed? or is it just trial and error
-
na never gonna sell the gemmy!! just keep it till i finish the scort. ca18 would be alot more work than a 4age i'm guessing. I'm hard out regreting selling my mk2 with the mint 1600 in it. And I have already got a couple of pinto's at home. So I think i'll just go for the pinto. cheers
-
I have found some spec's on the 4age
88kw
15.2kg/cm
engine weight 123kg
does anyone know the power and weight of a 1600 and for the pinto
-
I have decided to not drop a new engine in the gemmy anymore. Gonna focus back on the escort and get it finished. I have been searching for ages on spec's for pinto's.
I have heard that a 1600 is beter power to weight than a pinto. What does everyone think?
yeah so basically i am ready to send my shell away to the panel beaters. I need to decide now what engine to go for so i can modify the body acordingly. I don't want spend the time pissing round with a 4age if it's not even gonna be all that much beter than a pinto or kent
cheers
-
yea noway am i going to sell the gem. theres 1 ca18det on trademe but i reackon it'll need to much fabrication to get it to fit in.
-
yea i was thinking piazza but i can't find 1 for a doner. I was thinking some kind of van because they should be cheap because they are crap. I'll look into the ca18

I have about 2 months to build a drag car. I'm not going for anything crazy like 10's all i want is a car to race for this one event, maybe another but nothing to serious. I have scored a 1980 gemini wagon. I was just thinking of throwing a engine out of some sort of turbo van in and winding the boost up hard? Any ideas? I don't want to spend to much on it Just though in a engine and some bigger brakes so i can stop.
-
I'll be keen to go up to the show. I'm from taupo be stoked if i can catch a ride up with someone. My car's in bit's no way it'll be ready this year. but i'm always keen for kumu or how ever you spell it
-
I'm just cleaning out my engine bay. I don't want any un neccasary things in the engine bay. ie. battery.
I have got a spot weld drill bit and have been drilling for quite a while and can't see much progress. Do I just keep percevering or is there some knack to it.
I'm fixing the car up to show standard so i dont wanna just hack it off with a grinder.
-
how many of you have takin the underseal off your cars? whats the best way? I've heard there's no easy way, but surely there are better ways to do it then others
-
my girlfriend has a 1980 gemini wagon 2 door. just wondering if anyone knows any good engine swaps that arn't to much of a mission. Her engine is stuffed and were just trying to work out the best way to get it running mint again.
ps. were not interested in rotoring it
-
i could be keen just moved to taupo, my mk2 esky's pretty rough at the moment. driveable though just looks like crap. And i need to find a good garage or shed to put my mk1 in. It's getting a full rebuild. no of anywhere
-
Ha anybody actually done this themselves or just talking from what they have "heard". Because If it's bouncy at the front then i don't want that I am rebuilding the car so I don't mind spending a bit on the suspension if I know it's going to ride well. I will proberlly lower it by 2 inches

I've just run into some problems with the standard carb on my mk1 cortina. So now i've got a good excuse to UPGRADE, any suggestions? I'm keeping an eye out on trade me as always for side drafts but does anyone know of some other places to look also?
