I've got one installed in my daily that's connected to the alarm, so if the alarm goes it messages me. Guy that installed it said it's illegal to wire the remote shutoff to the fuelpump, but have it wired to the starter.
Battery does go flat if I leave the car more than a week or so though.

Or fixing it up and selling to recover some costs of the new one

Or a full referb kit:
With instructions on how to fit:

It's more than likely the alternator brushes. You can get new ones from Repco etc for around $20 the last time I did them... pretty sure you don't need to solder anything in the escort ones too. They just slot in, very easy swap and saves getting a new alternator.

I'd start with a single downdraft, then move to twin sidedrafts down the track if required/the rest of the engine is worked to suit

There's a bit of info in my build thread around fitting a 5 speed box mate.
//oldschool.co.nz/index.php?/topic/30780-mk2-escort-sport/
I got the tailshaft shortened so I can keep the factory gearstick position, and also got my flywheel machined so I could use a complete Sierra clutch
Cheers

Could buy this guys one for $9k....
//oldschool.co.nz/index.php?/topic/47478-fs-sr20det-mk1-escort-masterton/
Could probably recover a bunch of cost by selling the full conversion package to someone else... or keeping some of the bits you're gonna buy anyway?

In Wellington / Upper Hutt unfortunately mate. Sing out if you're planning on being down these ways at all, not sure how many of the guys on the forum are doing this kinda stuff down here? Might be worth a trip for ya if you can find enough cars to do!

Hey mate, I'm going to be looking for someone to do all the wiring in my Escort soon. It's the original engine but I'm looking for a few mods to the standard wiring system. The car is completely gutted at the moment interior wise so should be pretty straight forward for someone to install the new loom once its been made. Only prob is I'm in Welly, can see the current state of the car in my build thread. Would be keen to get an idea of what you think it might cost to do this:
- Rebuild loom (Have complete existing)
- Battery in boot
- New starter motor wiring (Using honda starter, prob the same)
- New distributor wiring (12v wire)
- Wire new coil (maybe no change)
- Add relays for headlights?
- Electric fuel pump wiring
- Electric radiator fan wiring
- Spotlight wiring
- De loom engine bay
- Ready for higher powered stereo?
- Alarm / Immobilizer / GPS / Killswitches
Cheers
Matt
(more around any changes required to the loom to support a semi decent stereo / alarm etc)

Thank's for all the info guys. Have done a bit of thinking and as a starting point I'm just gonna go with something like this:
Simple / Reliable / Cheap to start with.

Cheers for the feedback!
Looks like a pretty good system, not on the cheap side though. How is your current dizzy? Not too worn out? I've got a kit similar to this for my escort, http://www.trademe.c...n-838909952.htm which
seems to go great. It essentially just converts the points and condensor to electronic. Might be worth considering something along those lines, a fair bit cheaper.
Have already donated the stock dizzy to a mates project but have heard those are good kits.
You could do it for $600. All you need to do is not be money bags like Pete.Would also require the hassle and cost of someone explaining to me how it all works and probably help wiring it all up.
Am i likely to see major performance/reliability gains by going the megasquirt route?
With the stealth box, I like the idea of being able to hide that and having the engine bay electrics looking pretty much factory.
Cheers

Currently have a new electronic dizzy but has vacuum advance so looking to swap it out for a non vac one.
Have you guys got links to any build threads with a mega squirt and individual coils?
-
Haha don't think i'll ever be injecting the crossflow.... Think a new engine would be before that!
Cool cheers, quite probably did but engine bay had been resprayed by the time I got my hands on it

Hey guys,
Looking to start sorting the ignition etc on my Escort and thinking about getting a kit like this (but the crossflow version) so its nice and simple for me...
http://www.trademe.co.nz/motors/car-parts-accessories/ford/electrics/auction-837777743.htm
Has anyone had any experience with these and would recommend for or against them?
Also it says will only work with negative earth. All Mk2 Escorts are negative earth right?
I'm also thinking i'll want a dizzy without vacuum advance (also available) as i'm going to be running twin DCOE 40s. Should I bother trying to run any advance? Can't seem to find a solid answer either way.
Cheers

Cheers guys. Yea might be worth going for a bit of a cruze around those areas aye. Got insurance but messes with the no claims and not worth claiming for the $500 worth of contents inside. Also really liked the damn thing and was planning on keeping it!

Still heard nothing, looks like its not coming back.
Anyone got any ideas for where I could keep an eye out for it surfacing. Been watching TradeMe and subspare.co.nz but there must be other places.
Would really like it back, fuckers.

Thanks guys
Not to many Blitzens that color around Welly so hoping it might surface... probably been chopped into bits by now though
-
Hey mate, yep ENK13. Cheers for that, appreciate it!

Hey guys
Someone stole my Blitzen off the street in Newlands last night, if anyone see's it around can they please call the cops or message me.
Cheers

Pinto clutch is also fine with a simple flywheel machining (re-doweling) to take the pinto clutch.
Can also shorten the gearbox tail-shaft if you don't want to move the gear leaver hole (take a look at my build thread).
Edit: Although the box will bolt up I'm pretty sure you need to modify the engine back-plate as well, some people just discard it...

Long shot but its not some dodgy wiring somewhere else under the dash? From memory nothing runs if the hazard light switch isn't plugged in. Not something somewhere random like that?
-
Would be planning to keep it. Not interested in other engines

Hey guys,
My sister in Auckland has blown up her Surf. Apparently it's got a cracked head and she's been told it'll be 4k - 5k to repair (needs a new engine apparently).
It's a 3.0 turbo diesel. Would anyone here be interested in doing a cashie? Would need to find and fit a new engine, or check it out and see if its actually poked.
Thought it was worth an asking if anyone's interested
Cheers

Stolen - 02 Legacy Blitzen Wagon - Newlands Wellington last night

So this has turned up (almost a year later) in someones shed in Lower Hutt. Apparently it's completely stripped and has had the VIN plates cut out. Cops managed to identify it based on a partial VIN number they found on the smashed rear windscreen. They've also found a few other parts in 2 other places in the Hutt that they believe are from my car including the bumpers (not to many metallic blue Bliztens around). It's been towed to a yard in the Hutt for forensics and they have a suspect in mind they are trying to locate. Cops said I'm welcome to go down to the yard and take a look to see what's left so I'll go get some photos maybe tomorrow. Makes me wonder if they've busted a ring or something as there are a few locations....
More interestingly though, I've been sent through some photos of parts (taken at the location) to identify that have been taken on an iPhone with GPS coordinates still attached.
