  1. haha that wasn't even meant to sound dirty. pretty funny now that i think about it tho.

yea it could just mean condensation ran down the dipstick, but if your head gasket blows internally then that's what will happen. if its blown id drain the oil out of that bad boy right now and buy some engine flush oil. then replace the head gasket, flush the engine with the oil then might as well do a radiator flush at the same time. then chuck some new oil in and youll be away.

if your head gaskets blown you'll loose compression so your car will generally run like shit. and eventually die :D

  2. its most likely your alternator brushes are worn out. they cost about $10 to replace. just got to pull your alternator out, unscrew the plastic cover, inscrew the top bit inside and they just fall out. you can buy new ones from repco. i replaced some on an escort just recently and they are super easy to do.

white creamy stuff on ya dipstick usually means blown head gasket..

  3. good to see some fellow punkers on here. makes me proud to see not all you car enthusists are into their boom boom yea dwag "insert looped beat stolen from rebirth here" bullshit. haha go the punks

  4. definatly use the 1600 rods man, youd be alot better off getting new oversized 1300 pistons and reboring the block. you can run double head gaskets to bring the compression slightly back down so you dont blow it to bits. the only differnce between the 1600 and 1300 pistons is the bowl size im told, so by having a smaller bowl it cranks the compression

  5. im not sure why its limited, guess they have to control it somehow haha. thats why the new focus puts out more KW than the new WRX's and that coz theres no limit that im aware of for uk cars. crazy law really haha.

  6. the stroke on the 1300 escort motor is more square which makes it better than the 1600 but not more powerfull. its like its better for a 1300 than the 1600 is for a 1600 but the 1600 is still a lot more powerfull and unless your building a competion car that has a cc limit of 1300 then you are completly wasting your time with it.

the 1300 pistons can be put into the 1600 block and this raises the compression to 10.5 from memory, and you may have to run it with double head gaskets to aviod blowing your motor, unless your running it on race fuel, coz we all know NZ gets shitty B grade fuel.

if your gona port it yourself you have to make sure the exaust ports are bigger than the inlet ports, honestly your much better to take it to a machine shop and they will port it to match your manifolds.

those bullshit add's in performace car magazine can boast 20kw increase on wrx's by just adding an exaust because the factory manifolds have restrictor plates in them to stay under the kw limit they have on jap cars. so by puttin on a new exaust will increse them by that much, but obviously the old esky dosnt have restrictor plates so i wouldnt expect 20kw extra, but extractors are cheap and do make a differnce.

  7. so i had a muck around with it, i ended up pulling the vacuum hose that goes from the carb to the dizzy off at the dizzy end and starting it... it went like normal. so i tied the hose in a knot and went for a drive,it went fine. so its obviously something to do with the vacuum pressure at the dizzy. does anyone have any idea what might be wrong here? or should i start looking for another dizzy? ... or just leave it tied in a knot. any advice would be a real help. cheers

    Matt

  8. so i went out this morning and tried to start it, it would hardly run at all. let out a massive backfire and big cloud of smoke... so i waited a minute and tried again, it farted and hissed and banged and backfired again.... i think i have one sick laser on my hands

  9. hey guys

well as the title says my 81 laser is running like absolute shit. it kidna started happening gradually over a day. now it wont really idle and is running erally eradicly, i think it might be a problem somewhere with the fuel line or carbie? and advice would be great. cheers

  10. i paid $400 for a set of twin 40 DCOE's off trade me and $300 for a brand new intake manifold from kelford, i havnt fitted them yet but i am told you might have to watch out for clearance of the dizzy if you use a small manifold, but if you get a new high rise one u should be sweet
