hey i had the same kinda thing happen once on one of my cars, it was the vacuum advance, i ended up just disconecting the vacum hose between the carb and dizzy and it went sweet as but it would run on. if you try pulling that off and it run then there could be a leak in the vacuum somewhere

theres a good chance its the hanger bearing on the centre of your driveshaft, same thing happened to me, needed a new rubber and stuff, seemed to fix it.

you need to get a sierra clutch too bro, then take your escort flywheel to the machine shop and get them to redrill it to fit the sierra clutch, should be pretty cheap to get machined tho.

yea this ones not actually for my car, its a guy building a skid car with LSD and a 2 litre, the single piece is a lot more responsive apparantly so he was wondering if theres a way anyones managed to use one. apparantly the big rubber thingy at the gearbox end of the sierra driveshaft doesnt fit in the escort tunnel too? im not sure of that tho

i got my cam from kelford in christchurh, it cost about $300, its fast road / rally spec which is the equivilant of the bcf3. powerbands meant to kick in at 2500rpm

i just had a thought, i wonder if symbol cleaner for a drum kit would work. we got some to polish up my mates symbols once and it was potent as, they came up so polished. wonder if it'd work on a head haha. could be a secret weapon

and if you lighten them too much they can fly apart. and apparently when a flywheel comes apart its not pretty.
in the escorts i think some have lighter flywheels than others, we pulled a motor out of one and it had this chunky as flywheel on it, chunkier than any other escort one i'd seen. this was a few years ago and the motor could have been out of an auto one? im not sure tho. does anyone else know anythin bout this?

im not sure if it'll work properly but you can get these little drill bits with wire on them, like mine wire brush's. i use them all the time for stripping paint and makin metal shiny

there was a V6 capri diff in the trade and exchange a few months ago for about $150, didnt get it coz i couldnt be botherd goin to auckland to get it. have a look at http://www.tradeandexchange.co.nz and search capri, they usually got lots a bits

just wondering whats needed to upgrade? im lookin at buyin an old 3K starlet and maybe upgrading to a 4K or 5K. i used to have a 4K KE70 and i know the engine bays are pretty simple but just wonderin do they have the same radiator and does anythin else need changin to do this conversion. cheers. i had the same problem, it was the vacuum advance on my dizzy. solved by disconnecting the vacuum hose between the carb and distributor. its a pretty half arsed way of fixin it but ah well

i'd only run it on 91 if its a shitty engine you dont care about man and your gettin rid of it soonish. otherwise 96, or 98 for you lucky bastards that dont live on the edge of the earth

i just got 3 speed camera fines. all in the same morning, they hid one on this quiet little street. i didnt think they were allowed to hide cameras anymore? pissed me right off, considersing i was doin 61, 62 and 65. i wrote a letter away saying my speedo cable broke. has anyone had any luck writin away letters to get off fines? i've heard quite a few people get off by doin that. have to wait and see i guess

haha yea i had to take the center console out. unless you can maybe get one out of another car to fit? maybe out of a sierra or cortina. highly unlikely and would probably need a lot of mucking round.

i paid $110 for my 5 speed sierra box. they bolt straight up to the 1600 escort motor but you must modify the engine backplate but thats not hard. then you keep the escort flywheel but use the sierra clutch. just take the clutch and flywheel into a machine shop and they will redrill the escort flywheel to fit the sierra clutch. i got charged $60 for this. you will also have to move your gearbox mounts back and get a shorter drive shaft. so your probably lookin at, $100 - $200 for the gearbox, $60 - $100 to get the flywheel machined. and then how ever much to get the drive shaft shortened and the mounts changed.
also the gear leave is about 10 cm further back than the escort one so you will have to cut out a new hole in your gearbox tunnel. most people just cut out a section with the hole thats already there and then turn it around so the holes further back. also when your in 4th gear and have the handbrake on the leaver will touch the handbrake (who knows why youd be in 4th with the handbrake on but yea) but for the low low price of 3 ten mill nuts and bolts you can convert the box to quick shift, ill find the instructions if you like, its easy and makes the shift a lot shorter. so yea any other questions just ask
