  1. True, he said they had been tested and they weren't warped, but I didn't ask about crack testing or anything. That was what I though when i first saw the bubbles but it hasn't used any coolant so far so hoping its sweet. Pretty sure its got too much oil in it though.

As long as it gets me up the mountain and hopefully home again.

  2. 250T.... make sure they fitted the multi-layer steel gaskets for the replacements.. those motors blow head gaskets regularly. Were the heads pressure/crack tested while they were off too?

Yea only got it coz the headgaskets had been replaced with genuine steel ones (with receipts etc). Got it off a Subaru mechanic who said the heads were sweet.

  3. Hey cheers guys, Can't see any bubbles under the oil cap and there only seems to be bubbles on the dipstick when the car is hot. I don't think the car had been sitting around long.

Oil level seemed to be really high, though my streets on a bit of a hill so not sure if it was just coz of that, but I've been reading up and apparently having it overfilled can cause it to bubble. I'm just concerned coz the car did have blown headgasket/s due to overheating in the past. Guy said that the heads were planned and tested for warping and they're fine though.

  4. Just picked up a new car, and noticed there were a few bubbles on the dipstick. The car did have a blown headgasket, but these have been replaced along with the waterpump, thermostat, oil filter and oil.

Do you think think this could be something serious like a cracked head or block? I'm wondering if its worth giving it an oil and filter change myself to see if i can see any coolant in the oil or anything. Just a mission to do anything like that where I am.

    Any thoughts bros?

    Cheers

  5. Buy pedal box, fit it, tow car to Hopps garage, pay about $60, tow home with new front brake lines with bulkhead fittings on the firewall, mount reservoirs, plumb them in and done.

Lol sweet. Hmm $725 from Palmside though

  6. Think I'm gonna try out the AP calipers since I have them here already.

Also im running my brakes through a pedal box, with twin cylinders and balance bar. It all works really well

How much work/money is involved with setting up a pedal box? I see palmside do a kit but im just not sure what else is required apart from the pedal box itself? Know nothing about them haha.

    Cheers

  7. Cheers guys

I run my Cortina without booster and its fine.. they are not 100% needed and you wouldnt fail a WOF for not having one.

There isnt any reason to goto vented disks unless you are constantly using brakes heavily, they will not give you any better stopping power but just stop brake fade.

Do you think having the 4pot calipers and bigger disks will be enough stopping power for the worked crossflow? There are some Land Rover remote boosters on trademe at the moment, any idea how much of a hassle it is to set these up and whether its worth it at all?

Car will be used a lot driving through the gorge's either side of Gizzy where I've had brake fade in other cars, so think I might as well go for the vented disks.

Do the stock calipers fit over the 2.8 disks?

  8. Sup guys

I need to figure out what to do with the brakes on my Escort. I have a pair of AP 4pots and am going to get the 2.9i capri discs.

My biggest problem is that the boosters all been removed to fit the side-draughts (and we've grinded off all the brackets etc), and I'm keen to run a remote booster. I have 0% knowledge about whats involved with this, and what to get one out of and any other bits I'll need. Anyone got any ideas or set up remote boosters in their Escorts?

    Cheers

  9. is the clutch plate facing the right way, there is a flywheel side and a clutch face side, i would say you have it the wrong way around and it is jammed in there.

have also seen that happen before with similar results.

  10. There was a real mint set of rewinds on trademe awhile ago drilled to suit a mk2 that would have looked bloody impressive

True story, I Just missed out on getting them for my escort. Have just ordered some new 15x8 Superlites with -4 offset for $1309 inc delivered.

  11. Would probably be better off asking NZTA for access to thier database and making a search engine similar to carjams just with a few more seaching features

Would be a great idea if they don't charge for it... but i suspect they will.

  12. So on car jam, the basic info it gives you is

    Make:

    Model:

    Year:

    Main colour:

    Vehicle type:

    Body style:

    No of seats:

    CC rating:

    Fuel type:

    VIN:

    Plate:

    Plate type:

    Engine no:

    Chassis:

So, for example, you might have seen a BMW you liked and wanted to make an offer on and only knew the year, or what the plate started with. So you could search on all Beamers that have a plate startin' with K then spend your life trolling through results to find it.

Or you might buy an engine, and want to know what it came out of so you can look up the engine number, and get the info about the car its supposedly from.

Or you might buy a car and want to look up the chassis number coz its been reregisted, or you get it dereg'd with no plates, and you want to find out exactly what it is.

    etc etc.

  13. Yoyoyo

Yep would basically write a script to get all the info from carjam, wouldn't charge for the info and would keep it private, just having like an oldschool login we could all use or something. I got tons of hosting space so that's not a problem. I think charging for it would piss carjam off quite a bit, but I can't find any kind of disclaimer on the site that would prevent us gettin the info, and since its all public information anyway it's not like were stealing their data.

So really what you want to do is be able to find all cars with a 4AGE in it for example right? and then you get a list of cars with plates with that engine in it... kinda like a theiving cunts shopping list made easy?

Not really, would be searching on engine numbers so I don't think it would help thieves. All the info is public information anyway so if they want it they'll get it. But like i say, i'd rather keep it private so this shouldn't matter.

He wants to use our computers to run a bot that automatically fills in plates

eg "AA0000" then "AA0001", "AA0002" etc and save whats on the screen into a txt file so he can then make his own database with his own search engine..

Pretty much, can just bulk import all the txt files from differn't users into a sql database and slap a web front end on it. Making the search is only about an hour job, its just gettin' all the info. The more I think about it though, its a hell of a lot of info to get, and the main problem is that it won't be up to date as new car's are registered. Being an old school car club it shouldn't matter that much though, unless you've got a car that's been re-registered and want to find out its history. Can't win em all though.

Hmm still deciding if its worth it.

    Cheers

  14. How many of you guys use CarJam.co.nz to check stuff out?

I could basically make the same site but allow users to search on anything, i.e engine number, chassis number. Especially useful for us oldschool car types who have random engines and bodies etc and wouldn't mind finding stuff out about them.

Do you think this would be useful and if so would you be willing to help me build the database? You won't have to do anything except leave an app running overnight and then email me a text file once you've done a chunk of plates. It'd take a few months to populate with just one person doing it so would definitely need help lol. Building it would depend on a couple of other factors as well, but pretty confident it'll work.

    PM me if anyone's interested.

    Cheers,

    Matt
