  1. finish this first! out of all your projects I hope this is the one you smash out cos its a freaking great idea. Injected windsor from a mustang/falcon?

Going to smash this out as soon as i can.

My bell-housing arrived this afternoon from conversion components in hamilton.

Scored a low kilometre 289 windsor out of a ford ranchero that a mate just imported from usa. 66thousand miles on the clock.

Will give it a little freshen up, a nice cam, lectric dizzy, 4 barrel mani with a matching carby.

Need to make up some custom headers.

Hope to have it mounted up later next week.

  2. Looking at swapping out a TD27 turbo engine for a QD32 turbo. My understanding is all the QD32 turbos are known as a QD32ETi with an electronically controlled or partially controlled Diesel pump.

Hoping someone has performed this conversion or knows a little more than myself about it.

Can i swap the standard non electronically controlled pump off my TD27 turbo onto the QD32 turbo ?

Is it easier to use the QD32 pump wiring etc and leave it electronically controlled ?

Will i loose power from going with a TD27 standard pump ?

What is actually electronically controlled and/or how does the ETi part work ?

    Cheers

  3. Im thinking ill go for a 20mm plywood deck. The steel under the deck witll be 400mm spacings. I will also ad extra strenght into the areas that will be under more stresswhen its loaded with a car on it.

    Thats the plan anyway

  4. I sold a car about 6 months ago and I got a letter in the post saying I am no longer the registered owner 3 times and now I just got a letter saying the rego is due, if they haven't changed the ownership would this happen?

As the seller of a vehicle you are responsible to ensure the new owners change ownership. But if you got a letter saying you are no longer the registered owner then you may want to write a letter to the NZ Transport agency or give them a call on 0800 108 809 and explain the situation.

You can always go www.nzta.govt.co.nz and theres a section where you can put in your rego, driers licencse etc to check if a car is still registered to you.

Best to get onto this sooner than later to avoid fines if the car is in fact still in your name.

  5. Im manual converting my outback and i might have to use a Legacy prop shaft and trans crossmember.  The only difference is that the outback stuff is spaced away from the floor by an inch.  Can i just slam some spacers on the Legacy bits or will I run into problems come cert time and should just use the Outback stuff?

You should be able to space your standard legacy crossmembers as long as your spacers have the same amount of surface area as the crossmember mounting surface had.

If you want to space everything down by 25mm (1inch")  then i recomend solid steel for the spacers.

  6. Looking to throw my VT 5 litre v8 into my VX v6 commodore mainly because i already have car and engine and the v6 is sick its been hot a few times. Question being as the vx only had the Ls1 is this considered a bolt in conversion do i need d/shaft hoops are my brakes up to scratch?

Because your car came out with a V6 and your now converting it to a V8 it will still need to be certed and driveshaft loops will be required.

I would imagine your standard brakes provided they are in good working condition should be more than sufficient.

  7. I finally removed the cab last week and started stripping it.

Going to strip the cab to a bare shell and get it repainted in the standard white.

Because im building my own flat deck and tow bar i need to get them certified.

The certifier came over last week to point me in the right direction.

I can design and weld up almost the whole flat deck myself but the load rails and mounting brackets to chassis need to be done by a ticketed welder.

Same with the tow bar, it can be cut and tack it together myself but it needs to welded by a ticketed welder.

There is a few rules to go by in regards to steel size and spacing between rails etc but nothing complicated.

  8. It's not rocket science man and it's not at all conflicting  But just to answer your questions - even though I'm not sure if you are trolling or genuinely a bit confused.

Yes swapping vehicle identities is 100% illegal.

Why? It's illegal because you don't want the bro down the road to pinch your Subaru with a good motor and take it home, then switch the identity of his Subaru with a fucked motor onto your old Subaru. Because then he could legally own your car by the fact it has a VIN number that matches his ownership papers.

I was on a jury for a court case where a guy bought bank cheques worth $5 and managed to erase the pen on the cheques and write his own amount in there to buy the cars. He then transferred the cars into his name and the cheques bounced some time later. The insurance company would not pay out because he had legally bought the car - even though he had bought it with illegal cheques. It's not the same situation but it proves that a technicality like that is a fuck up. Not allowing jokers to switch identity plates willy nilly is a loophole closer.

    For the hard proof... https://vehicleinspection.nzta.govt.nz/virms/in-service-wof-and-cof/general/vehicle-identification/vin-and-chassis-number

edit - beaten by Clint while I fucked around writing my post and eating dinner.

The removal of chassis number on a vehicle with no VIN number makes sense.

    But my argument is this.

If i want to replace the bumper on my car then i can. I dont need permission nor is it illegal.

Same if i replace a door, or both doors.

If i replace both doors, the bonnet, boot lid, all the running gear and every nut and bolt i do not need permission nor its illegal.

Its allso not illegal if i unstitch every spot weld and remove every screw and replace every part with OEM parts.

So would it be illegal if i unsticted the spot welds holding the panel with the vin chassis number attached and fitted it to another car.

or this,  if its illegal to cut a chassis number out, how big does the cut need to be befor its not deemed illegal. Front cut ?

I will rock down to a VTNZ next week to have a yarn.

Will be interesting to see what i come up with.

  9. Read the link?

"Refer the vehicle to a VIN issuing agent (VTNZ, VINZ, NZAA). They will inspect the vehicle and seek approval from NZTA to issue or re-issue a VIN plate."

Basically as above, take it all to a repair certifier, both vehicle identities, all the paperwork to prove you own both and go from there. Good luck.

As for R100's phone calls, the repair certifier probably figured you were being a dick.

    Cheers.

I wasnt being a dick. I was asking genuine questions.

  10. Ive been told its illegal to grind out your chassis number and replace it with another chassis number from a different vehicle.

Is this true ? if so why is it illegal.

Very hard to find any definate answers to this but easy to find lots of conflicting answers from the net and talking with LTSA

Seems most people of authority say NO straight away but when questioned further they dont have any hard proof they know what there talking about.

  11. The main reason I have asked the question is I have the opportunity to purchase a very rare vehicle that basically has been rolled bolled and assholed.

The main value in it is its rarity as only a limited number of them were produced.

The body is reasonably common so getting parts to repair it shouldn't be too much of an issue but in reality it needs a new shell.

If I was to repair it, it would need at a very minimum a half cut from the front pillars backwards and a nose cut meaning the only good bits I could salvage is the dash, firewall and engine compartment (and engine)

Ive seen full restos of vehicles that have been pulled from swamps or found almost completely decayed away in paddocks.

What are the legalities on re-shelling a car.

  12. In the event of a crash were parts of the body need to be cut out and replaced, how much of the body can be cut and replaced before its considered to be another car.

Or during a full restoration of a classic car how much of the original car needs to be kept to keep it original.

Example, I have a very rusty but original Mazda RX3. It needs new floors, quarter panels, roof, doors, bonnet, guards and chassis rails.

The only part that's ok is the firewall with the chassis number attached. (along with interior and most of the running gear)

Is it legal to replace all the panels as above and only retain the firewall as the only original part of the car ?

If it is legal then it must be legal to swap the firewall into another shell.

Although that doesn't sound quite right or legal.

Anyone with experience in this ?

(I don't have an rx3 just using it as an example)

  13. Picture of the 2x trucks im swapping the cabs over on.

Bottom picture is the truck ill be keeping.

Reason im putting the rusty cab on my slide deck is ive sold the truck (minus the slide deck) as a front cut to be exported to the middle east. Will get the big grinder out next week.

  14. Story goes.

I have had a 1992 slide deck Dyna truck for a few years now and have been through 3x engines during that time.

After the last engine threw a rod i decide nah. Not going to spend any more money on it.

I will remove the slide deck and refit it to a 2008 onwards Dyna. (will do this at a later date)

So last week i picked up another 1993 dyna cab chassis with a 14b auto.

It failed a COF due to rust in the cab.

Ive decided to swap the cab off my slide onto the cab chassis and in process give the whole thing a good birthday.

I will then build myself a nice flat deck for it (approx 2meters by 4.5meters) Big enough to forklift a car onto.

Going to repaint the cab, chassis etc.

Ive also swapped the 16" rims and tyres off my slide deck as the new cab chassis had horrible 205-60-17.5 tyres. Not a nice ride on the open road.

Because its classed as a heavy vehicle i need to get the deck welded up by a "ticketed" welder then get the whole thing certified. So ill get a tow bar made up for it while im at it.

The certifier is coming over this afternoon. Will see what i need to do.
