  1. Ehh, iPhone app wouldn't be the comparison I choose because you don't modify the apps to suit your requirements.

Like Stu said to me, it's like any company putting time and R&D into a product, say a new Subaru WRX. Subaru have made the money when they sold the product, they shouldn't have the manifold and turbo surrounded by a locked shield because they found some variable vane geometry turbo no one else has but they don't want people to find out about it nor someone to swap it out or put a bigger dump pipe on it.

  2. So the KE20 was tuned by an Auckland dyno/performance shop. I approached them about unlocking the link they tuned which they said they would only do if they removed a number of things. When I asked what that was I got the following:

If we unlock the tune its just the comp tables tables we spend months on the dyno testing that will be put back to std link ones that most other people use.

    These include

    Air temp fuel comp

Air temp ignition comp…  3d table back to 2d

Water temp ignition comp   3d back to 2d

Idle ignition comp  3d back to 2d

    Transient ign comp

Closed loop Boost control air and water temp compensations back to std.

The car will still start, and run the same as it always did under normal conditions, the main fuel, and ignition tables will be the same as we tuned them and we will put compensations back in to ensure your engine is safe. Using the 3d ones we developed allows us to push the engine closer to this safety margin to make the most power in all conditions as safe as we can. 2d tables are still safe but it effects the engine running over the complete table, not just where it needs it.

I haven't discussed with the old owner yet whether he has signed anything to say they could lock the link but is this even legally justifiable? Surely paying for the tune is like buying a product, it has been paid in full and becomes my the purchasers property?

  3. We sell the vapor blasters, the proper ones are close to 40k and are quite different to the sand injection on a waterblaster.

Waterblaster with sand injection, they're having to use a unit pumping 900 litres an hour of water though

And a wet abrasive/vapour blaster cutting heavy marine coating at the same speed, using 60 litres an hour

At the end of the day depends what your goal is and how much you're prepared to pay. A cheaper system is going to be slower and use more media and water & generally be pretty messy but if its a small job or you're not too fussed then its worth a crack!
