  1. Cheers dude, yeah shoulda thought of that, am not keen to strip her as i just rebuilt it, but i guess its right on the dowels, and i do not want metal filings in the oil! Perhaps time to invest in some vlt pistons while im at it.

    Cheers,

  2. Yeah that would have been the idea, but the problem now is that the thread has been drilled from my efforts, so pulling it out, would just lead to a bigger hole. I need to cover the whole area some how, block it off, so no oil comes out, kinda hard at 100 psi o/p.

  3. The blocks leaking oil from where the temp sender was snapped off. Tryed to use an easy out to get it out, but it snaped off! Tryed to drill it out, but hit the hardend steel from the easy-out and drilled the block instead. Ive tryed covering the fuck out of it with metal putty(knead it ect) but it still manages to leak out.

Any one got any ideas, I thought about progressivly tac welding it, but with an iron block theres a chance it might crack.

All you escort fiends should buy it, had a mad tech/ dyno day-issue on pinto's a few issues back. Had a starly with somthing like 230 hp pinto in it!

PS Stupid comments may land a temp ban.

Expressions of opinion are welcomed, but do so sensibily.

  6. This is the problem, with every new car released, some other car becomes redundant-or "oldschool" as some would put it. Just because a car is old doesnt mean its oldschool.

Escorta is right when he says its about style- it is - Design! Does a cordia stand out on a busy auckland street or packed motor way? Proberly not, it with many other 80's n 90's car would just blend in. Where as you put ,say Zeps gem in the same place and it would stand out. The design of it is destintly oldschool.

The boundry's are thinner that what you all expect. Thats why I say cars of the 70's era and earlyer are the oldschool we're looking for. But for the few exceptions, like capri's - disgned in the 60s-70s (not exactly sure) and just refined over the years , but not so drasticly that there not oldschool-but are still a 1980's car.

  7. Very wipe topic to cover, but really, a carb should be chosen to suit the engine, not the other way round. T

here are so many differnt carb's avalible its not funny. There is no real answer to this question. You can have a single down draught like a 32/36 or 34 adm or the v8 sorta range of carbs, holly's n demons ect.

I have twin down draughts, exactly the same as a side draught but made for verticle aplication. The only disadvatane of this type of carb over a sidey is it doesnt flow as well because of the 90'' bend. But i doubt you'd notice the difference if you bolted up the same size side draughts to my engine.

Cant really attempt to answer the question with out any details of your engine.

  8. Dont know about the first question, but ill take a stab at the second as say, yes- it will run, but will prob run like crap, ie back fire detonate ect, ive put 91 in my old rwd 323 before and it would pre-detonate all the time, in fact, you could turn the engine of and it would continue running for about a minute(mechanicle fuel pump).

Most likely it will just drive like a pig and use more fuel on 91' so defeats the purpose of stingeing out on 98.

  9. This is how i rolled my guards. I made sure i had loose wheel nuts then went for a drive, some where along the line the wheel will come off and jam between your guard and the road, because you going 50+ k's an hour whe wheel still spins and hence rolls your guard. Be carefull to have the right sized rim tho, cause if tis to small, you will just end up damaging your lower control arm.

Lucky for me i had the rim calculations correct. :D

  10. Take my car for example, it's a 1983 version, the last of the line. However, it is near identical to the models that they made in '72 (bodyshell hasn't differed at all) which means the design predates a lot of the cars you'd consider oldschool...

Yeah youve got it, it the design, body shell primeraly.

And the design of the cordia, is, well its modern, look at the grill and huge plastic bumpers- you could call it an oldschool mitsi, but is not really an oldschool car. As i metioned above, the oldschool we based this site on is 70's with the exception of the ocasional early 80's model car which design was similar to the 70's era designs.

Theres more to be said, but im gettting hungry so ill continue later.

  11. We cant really sticky it cause theres no defination, all we can really stick is " Dont post is it old school".

In my opinon, no its not oldschool, when we started the site way back in 2003 we were thinkin, More like geminis(our ones)- eski's mark1-2 corts ke 25's ect... when you compare them to this is 1980 something cordia, its not really the old school we had in mind. Its more an Older model. Cool car ideed, but oldschool no.

  12. A gloss BLACK. Ever since i was young ive wanted a shiny black car. There was this movie, Had 5 or so black porsches chasing this other car (it mite have been herbie not sure) and they looked killer in black. So yeah i like the idea of a Glossy black Coupe. Proberly a lacquer for simplicity's sake. Unsure of whether or not to paint the grill and tail(presently sliver) and what colour.

Of course ive gota get her on the road and all legal before i can begin to think about paint.

  13. So slap a coat of clear over your Salmon Pink and you'll be set.

Haha, well i dont actully plan on keeping it salmon, getting it painted is priority. The primer was just to cover the spots where the paint had all flaked of. Eg a whole door and rear panel, Decided just to give it a quick sand all over and spray the whole thing, rather then have a horid mix of the gross green colour with primer doors and pannels.

    Def'

  14. Cheers, the colour is "Rustic Orange" or..... orange filler primer to be correct. Were in rather a hurry to get the engine in (had to be done by end of uni-holidays) so ripping every thing out and spraying the bay wasnt really an option.

BTW, it is an absloute bastard to keep clean, in order to remove grease stains u must sand and re-spray :D

  15. Engine and box finally in, but with a whole host of now apparant porblems to fix, Oil leaking out of the bock where the pressure sender snaped off- clutch no engaging- so the box has to come out again, the box also needs a new rear out put seal. Pic's as goes so far. And yes, we did actually put the 2ltr in at night in the rain, that is devotion! both Zep and I were rolling around in puddles of water with bugger all light trying to align a drive shaft.

  16. R100, theres some guys on the shore/ glenfield i think that specialise in doing up the 3.5. If you can get a hold of the jan/feb 05(i THINK) NZ classic car mag the cover car is an orange rover just like your daily, set up for targa, it had quad down draught webbers and made some decent power, it had the details of the workshop that did the work too.

  17. As long as you have the head set up right you should be sweet. There should be a mark on the cam, that lines up with a mark on the head some where, With those two lined up, and the crank on TDC ( Make sure its on tdc for cyclinder number one!) line all the links up with the marks and you should be good to go. Crank it by hand a few times times to make sure the valves dont hit the pistons and then all you gota do is time the dizzy again.

  18. Could just go carb setup, efis pretty expensive manly cause of th cost of a comp, but efi is definatly more tuneable. Would be cheap as doing a carbi s/c set up. Just need to set up a carb, say 32/36 for boost, get an air box wielded up for the carb, some piping work done. Make brackets for the s/c and et up some sorta belt tensioner and your away.
