cheers everyone, she bought an ASX.
WTF ! Why did you do that ? You are supposed to get the one we all warned you about, not take our advice !

Some would say the ASX is an old outdated design, I say it's been around long enough to be totally sorted...and they are. I used to work at a Mitsi dealer, and nothing ever went wrong with an ASX. To much French influence in the Nissan, I wouldn't go there.

Is that a photo from 1997 ? I don't think any made it to the 21st Century.

They can be unbolted....for WoF inspections. I have an old farm chair in the shed, I was going to use it on something...and those rule changes makes it not worth the bother. I had some chairs back in the day...and Ural is the way to go, they were made to pull a chair, not adapted to the task. I had a Ural...um, sort of. The only picture I have of it - light up the back tyre in top gear.

I wonder if you were on Kiwibiker 10-15 years ago? Suggesting a DT230 seemed like the equivalent of "have you considered a 2ZZ?" on here.
Yeah, I used to hang out there, but got sick of all the moaning - ''Someone didn't wave to me !'' Of course those same people never wave to a scooter. ''Road works on SH22 !!!!!!!'' For fucks sake, open your eyes when you ride. Mind you, they were hitting SH22 like a race track on 1,000cc sportsbikes, always crashing and something else to blame. I hope some of them grew up.

I always wanted a TDR250 - but back in the 250 Learner rule day they were way over priced...you could pick up a good 1000cc bike for the same price as a flogged 250. But I had a DT230 which was better anyway. Probably the most high tech 2 stroke built - balance shaft, electric start, electronic power valve, traction control, and more...40hp, and all in a 125 size bike. What a hoot, should never have sold it, but need to get down to one bike to do it all.

There was a TS4 built, it was in NZ I think, I saw a video of it running.

I'm sure he'd have something to sell you if you had asked....

My daughter's '89 Omega GT went off to get squashed the other day...$100. It was $30,000 brand new. You'd think some Subaru nerd showing satin boxers would snap up a rare model to make something special out of, but no interest.

Mid '90's is the tipping point for me. Our '94 Mercedes C220 went away on the transporter on tuesday, a shame, such a nice car to drive. Still rock solid German engineering...engine, driveline and chassis, but the W202 was when they went cheap on the plastic and electronics. The car will go a million miles and last forever, but the electronics and plastic won't let it get that far. Same as my current '96 Volvo 850 T5 wagon, it was still made by the Swedes, before Ford got in on the act, totally solid engineering, but again the plastic is just nasty, and there are too many electronic gizmos. Not a fan of any cars in the 21st Century.

The AMC box was the preferred gearbox for all odd ball builds, but probably still sort after. You could buy a '71 Commando, strip the box out and dump the rest.

Early '70's I worked at General Foods, and the workshop ran 24/6 keeping Bedfords on the road. Fortunately we also did RFL's maintenance too, so had their Leylands, Kenworths, Mercedes and Fuso to balance out the Bedford boredom.

The plate change - M was black, the new white plates were N. Is that the lifttback TX5 ?

It's a Volvo thing....mine stopped earlier this year. It's only a little $5 gear, and 10 times that in freight. Easy to replace, apart from lifting the dash and breaking every bit of plastic in sight. It still has the electronic trip meter, so I used that. Oil change ?....probably well over the 20,000km mark by now.
