  1. We had one of those flat 2 Toyotas in for some work in the '70's, we couldn't get any parts for it at all...maybe plugs and points.  The headers were completely rotten, and no pre made bends in those days. We got the smallest pipe we could get, and I split it, and double sleeved the pipes, hammer forming the bends. We were glad to see the end of it.

  2. Went through a similar headlight thing a couple of years ago, trying to get some '90's Harleys through before they had to get ABS. The lamp was branded HD, it had DOT, E11, and on the bottom had in large letters MOTORCYCLE.  It dipped straight down as a motorcycle should, and is allowed to do. No, he wanted an H4 in there....we had to find another bucket to fit, wire it up etc. The pictures in the VIRM all show an H4...the text doesn't require an H4 at all, but he doesn't want to read and understand, he just wants it to fail.

  3. 0.8 is GP rod for MIG...you don't want to be changing spools going from panels to exhaust tubing to plate. But if panel steel is all you are doing, the 0.6 is what you need.  I'm usually patching in 16 gauge, so 0.8 is good.

Go to the tool ban in pamure and look through the many bins of loose scokets, I 100% garentee you will find the one you want

I go there too, when I make a trip to Auckland.  Last time I got some 18mm sockets...because 18mm didn't exist when they made my socket sets.

  5. I had a customer who had a Volvo 245, and it broke down Opotiki way, last century. She stayed in town for 2 or 3 days while the local garage fitted another engine, and she drove home again. What they fitted was an LD28 !  Of all the engines to replace a 2 litre 4 cyl, they chose an LD28. An OHC Cortina surely would've been a better option, so it must've been all they had. I maintained that car for over 10 years, and it was a Volvo, so not much went wrong...even with a bloody LD28...so they had done a pretty good job on it.

  6. I've had a Raytec for about 20 years, it was a cheaper version, and you can get ones just as good for a good price these days. Even for just diagnosing a misfire - point at exhaust ports...that's the one !  A very important part of my tool kit, but the 9 volt battery is a pain, expensive things...I have one battery and move it around my devises. A USB one would be nice in the modern world.

  7. I had a MkIV Escort Van, when all Fords were badged Mazdas. One day I spied a MkIV ute, so had to check it out. It wasn't a Ford, it was a Mazda...from South Africa. When the rest of the Pacific Rim were slapping Ford badges on Mazda, they were slapping Mazda badges on Ford.
