  1. Hog Farm ?

There is a book out ''compiled'' by Claire Molloy about Ginger's time in Europe, good photos and details from Ginger. There is a DVD too, with Ginger doing the Kiwi non talking thing, just dropping names and places.

  2. It was just a 40 hp 1200, but it was enough to light up the rear tyre in top gear. It was a Jupiter chair.  The VW doesn't rev as high as the Ural engine, a bit like putting a Holden in a Landrover, so less top speed. But the old VW was designed to run at max rpm all day, so not a problem really.

But it looks like a Volkswagen beetle engine will fit with a gearbox adapter and new engine mounts, not sure if I should put my hand up for the bike

I used to have a Ural with a VW engine, and left side chair. Actually slower top speed than the Ural, but was a shit load of fun anyway.

  4. G9 was the worst motorcycle I've ever had, it was a total piece of shit, there was nothing remotely good about it. AMC tried to make a better twin than the other British makes, and failed. BUT, adjusting the valve clearances is the best ever, I don't think there is an easier valve system to adjust.

  5. Some years ago I converted a MKII Jag to left hand drive...it was going to Texas. The kit was a rack and pinion and electric power steering pump. Ripped out the steering box and idler, and fitted the rack. I also fitted a 4.2 into it, and was a bit of a squeeze to find room for the pump...but it all worked out pretty well.  No idea what the pump was, but the left hand drive kit was sourced from the UK.

  6. Yes, that's the advantage of a CVT, they can pull as high as gear as possible...I think the manual Fit/Jazz is doing about 3,500rpm at 100kph. The reason CVT's are so popular in Japan, is like NZ, they have a strict speed limit, which suits CVT's, in Europe and US they have higher speed limits, the CVT doesn't do so well, and are not popular there. My daughter has a Fit, and the first part of her commute is urban, 80kph mostly and she gets 22 km/l or more, once she gets to the open road it drops to 20 km/l.  (Jap Imports, they are in km/l...my last car was L/100km, so I have switched my brain over) That's on the gauge of course, which are not that accurate, usually showing better than real consumption, but have had mine doing better than on the gauge...it's just something to keep you occupied while driving if you don't have a phone.

  7. I have a Honda Airwave, a Fit station wagon. so was pleased to see a Fit Shuttle in last week, an updated version of the Airwave....and it was a Hybrid.  I did a CVT fluid change and took it for a spin, it's not a full hybrid, more a pedal assist. Fuel economy gauge was on 16.2 km/l. Um, my Airwave was on 16.5 that day, but had started the tank doing 19.5, but a week for short cold runs and some trailer towing brought it down to 16,5 km/l.  So, how come the hybrid has worse fuel economy than my standard version of the same car ?

Brian Gill put Fuso on the map in NZ. The 2nd Fuso in NZ was a dump truck, and I was at Winstones when it came into the workshop...we thought it was pretty cool, and was 5 speed with a 2 speed aux. The 1st Fuso was  at RFL, and I don't remember No1, but I sure would've worked on it and driven it. The RFL Fusos had a 12 speed Roadranger, 4 speed with a range and gear splitter. They pulled A Trains - a dolly under and it was a trailer, plugged into that semi. With a full load 1st gear just wound them up, front wheels off the ground, and hold your hand on the roof when you went for 2nd, because she was going right up again. Just a truck when I was there, better trucks in the fleet to drive around the yard than a Fuso. No Detroits in them when I was there...but they were too gutless compared to the others....Cummins powered Kenworths, a couple of Cummins powered Octopus, and Mercedes.

  9. I put a Kiwi Head on my 4D56 Pajero...and it lasted 3 weeks. Got another one out of them and that one lasted 3 years...finally got a NZ new L200 head for it and no more problems.  Both Kiwi heads leaked behind the inlet valves. Many years ago of course, and I guess they have changed supplier by now.

  10. Yeah, the BSA clutch was a nasty bloody thing. I had a stud pop out on Xmas Day. There was that elusive centre to convert to a Triumph clutch but never found one. Probably all over the internet now.   Why do you have cast iron barrels on B32 cases ?  Most people do it the other way round.

Seen at the Classic Festival a couple of weeks ago.
