Hi all, Ben here.
A lot has happened life-wise since I last logged on. Due to family circumstances my project car and myself have moved back down to NZ, and after a lengthy delay sitting idle (the car, that is) I am going to carry on with getting it roadworthy as I'd planned in the states three years ago. Of course now there'll be the added challenges of trying to do it down here with less part availability, darer petrol and fussier WOF standards to meet, but it's all worth it in the end.
First step after finding covered storage is going to be charging the battery, running some fresh gas in from a gravity feeding bottle and seeing if she'll start... ~

Hi all,
New progress since last on here; I just bought a universal fuel pump to replace the mechanical Chrysler one she had as stock. Getting on with this build has been an interesting challenge; mostly due to my inexperience, the distance I have to drive out in the desert to where I store the car and the fact I work nights but I'm really keen to get her moving under her own power before I have to help my father move his stuff up to Oregon- once I get it sucking petrol from the tank like it's meant to I'm focusing on brakes next! Played with the electrics and half do work (Low beam lights, wipers, air con and the driver's side window) while the clock, radio antennae, radio, horn ring and turn signals are all taking a nap. Found that somebody disconnected the black ground wire on the L side horn *Has one hooter on each side of the engine bay behind the grille* so I wired it back up, put a little tape around it and... still no toot.
Wish me luck haha

An event that runs throughout that month between Reno's infamous hot chicken wing festival in July and the Zombie Crawl in October, a calling for car enthusiasts from far and wide is Hot August Nights which takes place across the whole town and spreads into Virginia City, Carson and the City of Sin itself (6 hours away to the east!). Whether or not I'll still be in Reno to see it in 2017 is another matter, but I took plenty of photos from last year's run and met some great people *this was just before I bought my '59 Impy so I was still project-hungry at the time*.
If you're in the States midway through this year I'd recommend checking it out. A dinner at Mel's diner after spending the afternoon burning to a crisp walking around looking at old yankee iron is a must-do experience. -Benperial- 1

Name: Ben
Location: Reno, Nevada (formerly a Rangiora North Canterbury boy)
Cars I own: 1959 Imperial Crown (project vehicle), 2004 Ford Mustang convertible (current daily).
Mods to them: Last guy who owned the Impy changed a lot on her but I'll try to be brief: Has the taillights from a 59 Dodge, badging/ hubcaps are from later model Imperials, transmission is a torqueflite floorshifter from a 1970s Chrysler of unknown model (pushbutton no longer operational). An alternator and 2 barrel Carter have been added to the stock blue 413 wedgehead but the fuel pump, air-con and braking system is all factory. There aren't any mods on the Mustang as far as I know!

How I found out about Oldschool: Recommended here by felixx.
Anything else to add: I'm hoping to take both cars back to NZ one day when I decide I've had enough of America.

Hey Runamuck, originally it had a 413 wedge but a prev owner swapped in a 383 from a late sixties Dodge Coronet. (It also inherited the floor shifter rendering the factory push-button setup obsolete). More pics to come soon. -Ben
