  1. Very surprised anyone willingly paid money for that widebody rx7 in the video above. I had a good look over this when judging a show when it was first unveiled and the build quality was appalling. Apparently the original owner spent big $$ but the workmanship certainly did not reflect it. From memory he walked away with no awards at all

  2. Yes they sold numbers but I was referring more to their popularity compared to their domestic competition. I think Mazda was a drop in the bucket compared to American muscle of the same era.

Considering the US population, I will still class old Mazda's as unpopular there, but with over 300 million people, there will always be interest @re10

  3. Rotaries were never really popular in the US market, hence the huge variation of pricing seen online. Generally, Craigslist listings are people who don't really know the demand overseas and sell them cheap because in their eyes they are an old, unpopular, oddball car (in the US market anyway) and often in poor condition. You will find a higher price bracket on eBay or social media marketplaces

mate mike knew a farmer down hamilton ways,

    think his name was jeff/geoff

built x2 badass rx3 coupes, sold the first, then built another badass purple rx3 coupe

memory it had "Mean3" plates ?

    who know about this ?

who knows if its still about ?

    pictures ?

This was featured in an old NZPC mag - maybe the April 1999 issue below?

I remember it was up for sale around the rotahavik forum days and people online were having a major argument weather it was an rx3 or 808. Even to the extent of asking the guy to strip the firewall paint back to show the steel around the chassis number

is it really worth 95k ? would it sell for that ? or is that to get the ball rolling etc :)

    i was thinking like 20-30k,

im way outta touch with nz, when i left nz 15 years ago, rx's were 5k for a good one, 10-15k for a good modified one or stockish minter

probably more like 30-40k now ? realistic ?

I put this car at $40k max realistically in the NZ market. Yes it is in excellent condition, but an rx2 sedan is the most readily available 70's factory produced rotary in NZ. LHD do not have the appeal for most and I cant see anyone spending 95k and then going to the effort of converting it to RHD. Even if this was a NZ new car I still only place it at around $50-$60k

The owner would have better luck in the US market with growing interest in old Mazda's and being RHD
