  1. Yeah unless you have something to actually match to, it's all guess work.  Unless you know the color name and/or code. That said,  most early colours of all car companies have been deleted from a lot of computer systems as theres next to no need for them. I had a massive drama finding and matching the gt gold for a genuine xr gt falcon I did last year. Hence the reason if you get a few parked side by side they'll all be different shades.

  2. Insurance companies(iag especially)will try to tell you to use one of their "approved" shops and also tell you that if you use an unapproved shop they wont give you a warranty on the work, which is crap anyway as it's the panelshop who guarantees the work not the insurance company. You can choose any shop you want but be aware that when your shop of choice puts the quote through the insurance company will most likely slash the quote to bits, leaving the repairer minimal time and money to complete the repair. Insurance work sucks, its all about quantity not quality.

  3. I've driven all of the new utes and seen the build quality, through work. Sure some are better than others. But all in all they're all pretty even. Whenever someone asks me now what I think of a certain ute I tell them they all have there own issues and just buy whichever one you like best as honestly there all pretty damn good. I never thought I would but I brought a brand new Triton vrx November 2017, now done 28k and I'm honestly pretty happy with it. Bang for buck it's hard to beat.

  4. Those that can't understand why a quality paint job costs an arm and a leg probably should firstly do 15-20 years learning the trade properly then go out on their own and set up a paintshop at a minimum cost of around 100k then battle with rent, ratshit paying insurance companies, consumables, increasing paint prices, booth maintenance and compliance, worksafe pricks changing the rules all the time, tax on top of tax on top of more tax and then you may start to understand.

  5. Well replaced all filters, cleaned tank and fuel rail, installed new injector and still 3 cylinders so did what I should have done right from the start and took off the rocker cover and hello number 3 exhaust rocker isn't where it should be! Somehow it has tightened itself against the cam to the point it's eaten into the rocker a good 5-6mm and when I've given it a bootfull it's parted company. Weird thing is the locking nut was still tight, so fuck knows what how it's moved. Maybe the stress of the dyno? Anyway don't know how I've gotten away with it but the cam lobe looks fine!! So a another rocker and pedistal later and boom away we go again on four cylinders. Oil and filter tomorrow and will be boosting once more!!

  6. Went over to watch my car being dynoed today, after sorting a miss under boost and a couple other minor complacations it made 147.8hp atw at 5700rpm at 5lb boost and 196.6hp atw at 5850rpm at 10lb boost, super stoked with these results. Drove it for the first time for a road tune and you couldn't wipe the smile off my face! Even at 5lb boost! Ended up blowing an exhaust gasket which Is a easy fix and drove it home...all was going well till about 10k from home it developed a pretty bad miss, like it's running on 3? Thought it was going too good to be true lol. Will have a look at it tomorrow and see what I find I'll say it's either a injector or possibly the coil which is pretty makeshift atm

  7. Main things are,

    Wrong final stage sandpaper grit.

Lots of areas missed (wheel arch inner edge, all panel gap edges or owner gets tired and says 'yep, that'll do')

Metal or bog not prepped correctly before primer applied.

    Primer left too long.

Cheap products used (eg, super cheap stuff)

I could write an essay on this lol.

^this amongst quite a bit more . if the prep isn't correct from bare metal to top coat it WILL show and more often than not won't last. The way I look at it, stick to what you know.ie if I want to get some plumbing/building/sparky work etc done I'll let the pro do it . if I want to panel and paint a car then I'll do it.
