  1. So just a quick update, Have installed a JVC double din BT headunit about 2 weeks ago, Have soldered in the 4s and 6x9s and am currently hunting an AMP and some 15x8 or -9s for this at the moment, Have plans to compress the springs and get shocks shortened so will hopefully bring that in to get done soonish. Have installed an OG scarles drift steering wheel aswell that my misses got me for my bday Good as car to daily.

To get the headunit out was pretty involved but I figured it out in the end took me about a day. the wiring harness i got for it was stuffed so had to take headunit back out last night  and put new harness in. Had a bit of a dyslexic stoned moment last night and cut the coaxial cable lol so no more radio but BT and aux go algood so cant complain. Not much of a radio reader anyway.

Met some dude from trademe and he sussed me out with a few things to complete the car like door trim that was missing in previous pictures, speaker surround and  parcel tray stoked as he had a nice as old te71 gt or something was super tidy.

  2. Is this legit my cars wof is coming and its manual converted and a mate told me today ill need a cert before i can get a wof?

I was under the impression it was legal lol.

My brake pedal hasnt been modified and i bought the car with a fresh as wof on it he'd had it manual converted for years.

stressed im not gonna pass my wof, can anyone shed some light on the issue?

  3. So here it is my daily, I plan on keeping this car for the long haul as after owning numerous cars i have learnt what I desire, Fuel economy, comfort, rwd, manual, tidy, not a subaru, and not cop magnet.
With that said I also don't have any justification on spending loads. So after selling my last car I found this car on trademe, some real nice fella from invercargill has owned it for the last 20 odd years and has kept seat covers on it that entire time so seats are in pretty sweet condition no rips tears ciggy burns, non smoker car who has looked after it as much as possible. I believe he said he was a motorbike mechanic and so he has serviced it every 5000ks, It's a  1gfe thats been manual converted. has a few odd dints and what not but overall is pretty tidy especially interior.

Pretty much everything is original in it still has tape deck but tape deck doesnt work sadly, So will be hopefully putting a headunit in in the next week or so, Jap import so still doesnt go past 90 on FM.
bell rings if ya go any ks over 100.
Has recently had all belts done, waterpump, Heads been machined, I'll probably put the trademe screenshot up as it says all of this. its got a bigger battery, bigger radiator that looks new as.
Paid 3k for it which in my opinion was sweet.
only down side to it is the passenger side door has been crashed into at some stage so it has been bogged up and the black trim is missing so looks odd(plan to replace as soon as i can find one)
As soon as i work out how to put photos up I'll do that aswell.
    Plans for it-
Tints, headunit, new 6s and 4s at some stage. Sub and amp.
tidier rims that make it stand out a bit better but cheapo spec widened steelies or something.

Probably try suss a nice wheel and gearstick soon it has a TRD stick at the moment but want something a bit more JDM like a katana or something that stands out.

Lower it, I made a thread about this earlier have pretty much decided coilovers but still not 100% may go with king springs and shortened shocks with RCAs installed if I can sort that out so i dont have to piss around with cert.

and a tasteful exhaust maybe but really not fussed at the moment.

After that if I'm feeling game might try and suss a LSD for it but not sure and no rush.

Will upload photos tomorow to tired tonight. If anyone has any parts available for GX81 please give me a PM..

  4. Just to confirm RCA is rear control arm? where would i suss them?

the bcs im looking at http://xcessivemanufacturing.com/index.php/toyota-mx83-t-mx83-co.html i was on trademe looking at same coilovers, apparently they cant be road legal ill try find page, theyre br racing or something if they cant be legal apparently s13 ones go in without to much of a mish, https://touch.trademe.co.nz/motors/listing/view/1238791154 * RACE USE ONLY - CANNOT BE CERTIFIED FOR ROAD IN NZ ** lol there goes that idea i guess

  5. It actual does though its nothing to brag about but for my cheap daily cant complain im very happy with it prefer slowish then mad fuel consumption. its no jz or rb but for wht it is im pretty happy

would bc coilovers make getting it nice and low a bit easier then shorter shocks, strut casing and rcas, theres bcs that fit mx83 which should go in to my nana car no probs just a weld for front ones, Would i still have to adjust lower arm angle if i got bcs? seems like that would be the most effective option, sorry if im not making much sense gotta start somewhere. if i do that itll be a while before i actually do it just because funds are needed elsewhere

  6. Its a tricky one so much conflicted information as the reading up continues lol, some people say s14 springs get it perfect but after hearing from you peeps i can see how theyd be pretty shit.

dont really know what my best option would be then I would really like it to sit a bit lower maybe cutties but ive heard cutties are quite dodge and id rather not ruin perfectly good springs.

what would be the normal go with a situation like this obviously its been done enough times now surely someone has it right.
dont wanna spend mad bucks but willing to spend a bit to get it sorted. can you get coilovers to suit x chassis rather not go down the cert road though. dam haha

do you reckon i chuck some pics up? maybe i should suss a build thread itll be a pretty minimalistic build thread but could be a go maybe tomorow night.

  7. mmmmm good to know guess ill flag that idea for the moment, are A70 struts hard to find? What lowering springs would you suggest? ive never bought car parts so pretty novice guy right here. but am very excited to learn.

Its pretty nana spec at the moment and I sort of plan on keeping it semi nana, just needs to be lower and firmer lol, Do you know if the a70 struts go straight into the x chassis?

Might chuck some photos of the beast up at some point. sounds pretty angry at 4.5- 5-5 revs for stock exhaust, might remove a muffler aswell. Goes quite hard for what it is.
definitely not the nicest looking car but its growing on me quickly i think its got the fugly ish front end but i like it.

Plan on keeping this car for long haul been through to many cars over last few years.

  8. Just bought a tidy example of a gx81 its got a 1GFE engine and has been manually converted with a w55 box, last owner had owned it for 20+ years and had seat covers on it the entire time so interior is pretty looked after. This is my daily and I am really happy with it, I've been looking into lowering it a bit and my understanding is that S14 springs go straight in, Ive never put springs in a car, so im not sure what the go is do i keep the GX81 shocks on and put the s14 springs in aswell or do i put s14 shocks on as well as springs. My mates got a set of s14 springs that i can have just not sure if they actually work. Wanna get into doing work on my car and looking after it so all help is very appreciated.

Ive been on google about this and a few people have put s14 springs in but Im not sure if that means shocks aswell. My understanding is GX81 is the same chassis as JZX81 and MX83 so if it worked on a jzx or mx it would in theory work on GX81.

Potentially after parts for my car aswell so if anyone has a parts car or spare parts feel free to PM me.

    Thanks in advance.
I hope to put s14 springs in ASAP but was hoping someone could lead me in the right direction before i pull my car apart. Cheers

  9. @sambo I'll check now I just found an old post you wrote up about about the 2s-c I don't really know what an airpump is but I will have a look around the exhaust manifold, I could be keen on cams but I don't really know how to sort out cams for a 2sc, What sort of carb should i go for? And unsure where I could get a new manifold for a 2sc lol. Or would any inline 4 exhaust manifold work?

Sorry I'm not the most up to date with engine knowledge.

I think with most the replies ill just stick with the 2s until the house is secured. I really love my wagon though I'll put a photo of it up at some point wouldn't be surprised if last owner was on this site been really well looked after

  10. I understand 3k is quite tight but if it any more then that then misses or myself can't really justify it I would really love too though getting a house is more important but after that ill drop a lot of coin into this wagon and my other toys.

So if I can find a relatively easy swap I will be really focused on getting it done.

Can't justify a holden engine unless its a rb, Quite a few of my mates are ford people. you know how it goes with that beef cbfd getting the shit from them,

    .

rb30e would be dope could be keen possibly lol

  11. I dont have an engine crane, so I will probably just get some legend to do a cashjob for me, I'll look into the 3rz, 3tgte I could be keen on a 4age but dunno if it would have enough power for the wagon

If theres someone in chch that could do an engine swap for cashie and Ill help that would be mint but obviously wanna sort out what to put in first.

EDIT- http://www.trademe.co.nz/motors/car-parts-accessories/toyota/engines/auction-1010861362.htm 3tgte would that fit onto t50 borgwarner?

  12. Hey, Thanks for all the responses much appreciated.

If a sr20det was possible on 3k budget id be pretty damn keen on that, Otherwise I'd be pretty keen to keep the engine toyota!

I think I need to look out for a nice engine to come up cheap.

4sfe would be pretty interesting are they hard to come accross?

Thats a dope as rona bro

  13. I've got a 1987 2l Corona Wagon, currently has a stock 2s-c engine and t50 borgwarner.

Just wondering if an engine swap would be realistic on a 3k budget? Not including cert just so its in and running.

So far I've only really looked at the 3sge beams engine as a possibility but honestly have no experience with taking an engine out and putting a different one in so would love to know more about engine swaps. if 3k isn't possible I will be flagging it and just stick to the 2s-c as I am saving for a house aswell.

    All responses are appreciated cheers
