I'll be there even if it's raining as it is now.

I'll let you know if I have a spare seat, I only have one but I can probably organise a ride for you.

Anyone else going? Ranton and I are taking our mk2s down. Who else wants a race?

Finally made some progress. Sprayed the base color today. It's just gloss black but I've got something special that will be going over it.

If you can get liquid extractor and water blast them it will make them like new. I have done this personally and it works really well.

Had a good time though I was only there for a couple hours this morning. Looks like I missed the real action. Also got lost when I first came in and drove all the way around as no one could tell me where Oldschool was because no one had heard of it. Hahaha. Thanks Neal for the directions, shame that I missed you (as in I left before you came). Will be aiming to be there on the Saturday next year.

Not much of an update, but ready for Hot Rod Festival tomorrow:
P.S. I wish the car looked this good in real life.

Just drive at the show gate and I doubt they'll turn you away
Once in yell oldschool club at marshalls and nod and drive past them
Park with OS
Profit $$$$
Haha, I will do this.
Go in through the gate nearest Kumeu township for display cars.
Best route there if coming from the shore is to go left at the roundabout to taupaki and then go around the back of the showgrounds to the entry.
I'm coming from One Tree Hill but can still do this.
Thanks guys, see you tomorrow.

I'm planning to be there tomorrow. So how does it work getting in? Do I park outside and walk in or can I drive in with my E28? I haven't been before so not sure how it works.

Firstly I'll begin by saying I don't actually really play guitar. I've always had a great love for music and wanted to learn an instrument, and I did start playing guitar for a short while and also did piano for a brief period but never carried it on for some reason. One of the reasons may be that I never really had my own instrument to play. So recently I decided it was time I learn so I spoke to my friend who has been playing for years and he kindly donated this to me. I'm not sure on what the model is but I remember him saying it was a Yamaha and actually quite a decent one. Please excuse the rubbish photos.
When he told me it was in pieces and needed to be put back together, being as I am I was quite happy about that and knew exactly what I was going to do. So the plan is now to repaint the body of it. I already have the color scheme in mind but I will keep that a secret for now. Someone has already started sanding the finish as can be seen here:
I'm planning today to finish the sanding and spray the primer on so should have an update this evening. Hopefully this is of interest to some of you.

From memory Precision don't do balancing. Take it to Bob Mead at Balancing Specialties.
I second this, Bob's a good guy.

^that will need a cert.
Not if you don't need to modify any mounts. Hahaha.

Hmmm 535i E28s are great, but man! That looks like a far good E34 to kill.
Trust me it's not. I might take some close up photos when I get a chance but it really is rough. Today I found some major rust at the jacking points, there is a hole on one side. Made me feel a bit better, haha.

Some updated pictures I took this morning. Unfortunately a bunch of water got under the clear on the trunk lid and now looks horrible. Luckily it can't be seen on the photos so you guys can just pretend you didn't read that.
Coming sideways soon in a hood near you.

I quite like the Achillies ATR sport. Have them on the front on my e28 and haven't had any issues wet or dry.

Will be there as usual.

Funny why I haven't seen this project before but well done. That interior is perfect in my eyes.
Also glad you mentioned how shabby the donor actually is. I saw it and was like NOOOOOoooooooo (but also YESSSSSS that motor will be better as a swap)
I like it!
Thanks. I do still feel like it is a little but of a shame but at the end of the day I like the e28 more and I just can't have this many cars at the moment.
You have my popcorn.
LOoking like you will be swiftly moving g forward in the near future.
If your looking to pass on your rear discs and calipers let me know.
And why size are the wheels??
Swiftly moving forward quite literally when the motor is in, haha. I'm planning to swap the all the brakes over onto the e28 too as apparently it's a bolt on upgrade. The wheels are 17" and will be for sale when the car is parted. TSWs with 235/45 Bridgestone Potenzas.
nice score on that 535! I saw it on trademe (if im thinking of the same one) and damn that was good buying.
any plans for the shell? Im keen on some small trim bits if she's headed to a wreckers
It was on trademe so probably is the same one. I will be parting it out so all the parts I don't need will be up for sale. Just let me know what you are after. However at this point I'm not 100% sure when it will be as it has WOF until May and I has some things to sort out first. Depending on what it is we might be able to work something out beforehand, just send me a PM.

On new years day I picked up this donor and proceeded to spend the following few days practicing my drifting in the rain:
A manual 535i with LSD. Before anyone gets upset, the car is far from as good as it looks in the photos. It has quite a few rough edges, paint is flaking everywhere and is generally not that great cosmetically. But mechanically it runs and drives so nice and has done around 170,000 kms. It is my favorite car to drive of all the cars I have at the moment, but let's be honest, the running gear will be far cooler in my e28. So that's the plan.
I've also made some small changes to the e28 including e36 illuminated window switches and a gear knob emblem that I made by grinding down and polishing an old steering wheel badge.

Photo from the drag day (thanks Mrs OnTheTree):
Finished the wheels earlier this week.
Got some tyres and put them on. As a side note, does anybody else see a face in the drivers window on the first photo?
Excuse the bit rubbish photos. I'm going to lower the rear by a notch later and take some better ones with a real camera.

All four wheel lips done, ready for painting now which will hopefully happen next week. Should have them on by next weekend.
Also installed some more shiny bits in the engine bay.
Raised the boost a bit too, goes noticeably harder now. See you all at the drags tomorrow.

Final spray done today. The clear didn't come out as good as I would have liked, I've got a feeling there's some solvent pop which will show when I wetsand, hopefully not. Otherwise I'm pretty happy with it. Wetsanding and cutting to come, hoping for it to look like glass in the end.
