The longest stretch without fuel is Hanmer to Blenheim, approx 200km, second longest is St Arnaud to Hanmer of approx 120km. Day 2 has a few fuel stop options Renwick to Havelock which is approx 100km.

Grouse I can get just over 200km to a tank. Should get away with a 5L jerry in support wag and can top off the tank at the lunch stop on day 1.

Light adv scoot ready for action (nearly)

    We're gapping quakechurch around 4pm.

Probably be an obligatory stop at countdown to stock up on blue loaded, snacks, and cheap beer.

So should be hitting town (it's more of a village really) around 6.  Just in time to check in, go see the good people who are offering the off street parking, then smash the Alpine village inn for a roast and beers. Washed down with cold beer sold by the jug. (Which is how any civilized establishment sells their ales)

Grouse I can time my trip the same - I think I'm staying at the same place as you as well

We're going to whack a 20ltr on one of the back up trailers. But you might be in for a bit of a wait if you run out of gas. (I seem to recall you were pretty well up there on the te urewera ride) I'd recommend trying to carry some extra fuel yourself if you can.

I had one of those ali aux fuel cans which I borrowed so won’t have it this time. I can cover about 200kms with no gas stops though - not sure how long day 2 & 3 are

  4. Righto just got my A into G, paid for parking & Entry.

I also have booked accommodation for the Thursday night in Hanmer and the Saturday in Nelson with 1 spare bed on both of those nights if anyone would like to chip in on that too.

Time to get my scooter ready - it still has Te Urewera Dirt on it haha.

Oh, Also is there room in Support wag for a 4ish Litre jerry for spare fuel?

  5. Haven't achieved a whole lot on this thing yet, took the engine out and inspected the insides, appears the piston had been getting a little friendly with the head on the intake side (my guess is that since it's chinga gear the casting may not be perfect) so just cleaned up the piston a little so hopefully should clear now.

Cleaned it up a little while it was on the bench, came up pretty well for a small amount of work.

Also ran my multi meter over a couple of bits as per the manual and the Rectifier is toast, and appears the front brake switch isn't working either. It seems that the right hand switch block/lever may not be the original one either.

Is there anyone heading down via Nelson with a trailer? As capable as the bike is I'd be happier trailering down on Thurs afternoon/night and back to town on Sunday night in a perfect world.

I'd also be happy for the bike to travel down/back with a GC, and I'll drive down after work on a Thurs/back Sunday.

It's not quite as simple for teachers to take annual leave as regular folk. I'll get Bart to write a note to my boss otherwise...

I'll be driving to Hanmer from Renwick with a ute if that's any use

  7. Hey guys,

decided to make a thread for this bike, built an entire 140 powered FR and neglected to make one so thought I had better make one for this.
Bought of marketplace at a decent price as a ‘ran when parked’ type scenario. Everything was there and it actually ran after a carb clean and unblocking the pilot jet.
Here it is in all its crusty glory (along with the FR)

plan is to get it all legal then drop an XR200 donk in it eventually.
I have also discovered it has cam journal wear so the cam has play in the head, so will need to do some kind of roller bearing mod to remedy that.
Other points to fix are that it exploded every light bulb installed, it has an un sightly Chinese barrel on it, and the clutch slips.

Nope, Mt Patriarch is on day two. We go from Blenheim to Renwick, then head up North Bank road to Mt Patriarch.

If there are people looking to avoid gravel as much as possible your route suggestion would be ideal. They would probably want to avoid the Maungatapu section from Pelorus to Nelson too as that is definitely the most 'technical' part of the ride. If you have never ridden gravel before I'd avoid this section.

I'm looking into the possibility of getting a support truck through here tomorrow, stay tuned...

I see now haha yeah that queen charlotte pest won’t work
