  1. Sorry for dredging up an old topic. I have an HQ 6cyl that I want to fit power steering to, trouble is I'm not sure how many of the steering components need changed.

    I know the following:

Power steering box - have one

Power steering pump - hoping the vb commodore one I have can be used

Pump hoses - will get generic items made or buy second hand

    Double pulley - have one

Pump bracket - hoping I can adapt the vb commodore one or make one

    Belts - easy found locally

Pitman arm - will need to find

Shaft coupling - will need to find

What else will I need to find and swap out???

    Cheers Steve

  2. Yeah, it did say that each case is evaluated, unfortunately there is no "sorry we are unable to supply due to" letter, just a bunch of pages with a date and "information unavailable"

All good, as you say flauski, it was just curiosity. A name and town would have been interesting, or the issuer of the warrants would have been good to track it's life.

    Cheers guys

  3. Hi Guys

I have had a lot of people stop and ask me about my HQ and if it was a reps car or if I knew if it belonged to someone they know and without any old school ownership papers there is no way of knowing. I came across an "Application for registered person name and address (MR31)" which Requests for the name and address of individuals or companies that are or have been registered in respect of a vehicle considered against the criteria contained in the Official Information Act. So I completed the form and sent it off along with my $15 fee.

I received today a "Certificate of Particulars" which gives me all the info I already know like chassis and engine number and first registration date. It also gives me the dates of every warrant since 1995 and it gives me 9 dates of change of ownership from 1974 to 2016, however next to these dates it just says "information not available"

Now I know who owns it now, and I know who owed it before me and I know who owned it before him, So why don't LTSA know? Are they not allowed to tell me the previous registered owners or companies like they said? Was my $15 better spent on beer?

Anybody else out there done this?

  4. I have a couple of fr80s i plan to restore one day, I learned to ride on one 25 years ago and rode it to school for 2 years, I've been looking for my original one for years, your one didn't used to sport 55HRM as a plate by any chance?

  5. Looks like a fun upgrade going on there. I have an AX100 motor with a lightly scored cylinder that's been sitting in the corner of the shed for 15 years if your interested, I'm in the South Island unfortunately. Includes kickstart and carb .

  6. Hi guys

I recently purchased an Hq holden witch originally would have had a 6 cylinder red 202 motor. Somewhere over its life time (9 owners) someone has swapped it out for a blue 202 (3.3) motor. Now looking back over the last few years of warrants in the glove box this has not been an issue. However when I did a carjam report I found that the engine number certainly dont match the paperwork. Is this something that I will get pulled up on at VTNZ or any other testing station? Has the previous issuer of the warrants missed the fact it's not matching or is it not a problem? If it is a problem then what are my options?

The other issue are the lap belts in the back and the non retractable front seat belts - theses are still warrantable in a 1973 car?

    Cheers, Steve

  7. They were the reliable workhorse back in the day with the 125 limit, not much you could do to them to make them go faster. The limit was increased to 150 which ment that newer fxr150 suzukis walked all over them. You can however buy 150cc kits from aliexpress and deal xtreme out of China but the chassis and brakes are still not up to it.

  8. Hey there, are you still building this? I pretty much have the same project going on with a cg125, got the mx bars on mine with the cut down front guard. Went with a Chinese cover for the original seat in the end. It was my old bucket racer, rego on hold so sweet there.

  9. Name: Steve

    Location: west coast

Cars you own: nothing old school yet!! , I restore and own 90's 2 stroke motorcycles.

How did you find out about old school: Google

Hi guys, I've spent a lot of time and money over the last 20 years collecting and restoring 2 stroke motorcycles. I've decided now to have a crack at a car. Being of 1974 vintage I decided that I need a car as old as me. I'm not keen on yank tanks and would like something big to stack the family into which rules out most of the japanese cars. I'm not a ford man so have set my eyes on an HQ holden, preferably a wagon.

I wil post a bit more of what im after in the WTB section. Hopefully someone can give me a lead.

    Cheers, Steve
