It's discussion time.................

How exciting, my first project thread.

So here it is.

My new 1988 Hyundai Stellar.

I've wanted one for the past 2 or so years. because their such an odd-ball car, hardly no one knows what the fuck it is, and there are practically none of them left now. As they all rusted out.

My Nana and Grandad had one for a short time between approx 2008 and 2011. Theirs was the pre-facelift model. I've got the facelift model that came out in 1988. The front end on the facelift model doesn't look so naff.

A bit of history behind the car, it was brought by a south African guy down in Christchurch about 9 months ago, and then driven up to Auckland. He did about 11,000KM's in it, during that short time. Before that it was owned by an old couple down in Christchurch by the name of Mr and Mrs J.D Dale. They owned it for 24 years. Before them it was with a rental car company called Southern Cross Rental Group for 3 years from when it was first registered in 1988. So it was obviously a rental car for a while. Furthermore it was sold from the local Mitsubishi yard.

I discovered the Stellar while I was driving up White Swan road in Lynfield. I was in the green Mirage at the time, and was like shit, it's a Stellar. So I turned around and gave chase, but yeah I lost him. I then noticed he was at the Z station in Lynfield filling up. So I went in for a chat, and got his number, then went in about a week for so later too have a look, and a test drive. As I discovered he only lived 5 minutes away.

Basically for those that don't know, the chassis is the same as an early 80's Mark V Ford Cortina, and has similar Mitsubishi mechanical'sto that of an early 80's Mitsubishi Sigma, with a 4G32 engine and Borg Warner 3-speed automatic transmission.

Another reason I brought it, was it ticks off three boxes, it's automatic so will be a good cruiser, it's rear wheel drive, (it can drift but not that well with the 1.6L) and finally, I had too set myself apart LOL.

It does have a few issues that need sorting for the WOF. It's also got a few pretty mean oil leaks, and smokes like a typical Mitsubishi engine should LOL. But I will get onto replacing the seals, head gasket, rocker cover, and giving it a damn good service, replace leads and all that normal stuff when I can free up some money.

For now I just want too drive it when I can. Well enough rambling. Time for some pics.

LOL, that would be funny. I remember seeing a souped up one in Mt Albert a few years ago.

The way things are going at the moment, the guy gave me a txt at the last minute, last night saying he wouldn't be available today. 

When I was meant too get it last Sunday. I'm starting too reconsider now too how much I'm gonna buy it off him for. We agreed on $750, but I'm more thinking around $550.

I'm trying too be fair which was how I came up with the $750.

But Hey, if I wanna set myself apart from everyone else on here. I gotta "pay the price" too be unique right?

Yup I'm coming.

He's still waiting on getting his wife's new car from the car yard. Which is taking more time than expected. At least it gives me more time too sort some stuff out.

The guy has put the sale off until next week. Let's hope he's not having second thoughts about selling it. Argh.

It will be a good drive for my new Hyundai Stellar which I have not brought yet.

Some days I think too far ahead of myself.

I will take more pics of it tomorrow. Yeah, I think the past 6 months of hard Auckland life has given it a rough up. The left front? driver's door is a bit scraped. Nothing bad. And there is a small hole in the front bumper. I'm bringing straight too the shed tomorrow.

After scrolling through Google, for pictures of kiwi Stellars. I found this taken in Christchurch off the actual car. The owner drove it from Christchurch when he brought it 7 months or so ago. These are post quake pics or something like that of old cars in Christchurch.

I'm all ready starting too make puns and such, for this damn car.

My Korean neighbour, I did a "Stellar" effort of his lawn. I then wanted too sit back and admire my work over a bottle off "Stella" Artois.

I'm picking this thing up on Sunday!!!!

I'm coming, but not in a Hyundai Stellar like I hoped lol.

That will be next month.......................

Yes, I came across a Hyundai Stellar a few weeks ago, at the local gas station in Lynfield. Turns out he lives about 4KM'S away. I have always been interested in them, since my nana and grandad had one. It's silly and is one off those odd ball looking cars, that you never see anymore, a bit like the Proton Saga.

Its a 1987 with the Mitsubishi 2.0L 4G63 engine and the Borg Warner KM112, 3 speed Automatic. It's RWD too!!!

What I know, is that the have the same engine and trans? as an early 80's Mitsubishi Sigma. And the chassis is built from the Ford Cortina of the same era.

So if I want too, a transmission swap in the future should be easy shouldn't it?

And does anyone know anything about them??

Dad let me do laps around the car park of the local footy club, I think I was 13?

Loooooking forward too this, a bunch off GC's and some cool sheds. 

My Gold Mirage ain't going anywhere. The back brakes are seized as f**k.
