  1. Hey peeps

It has the original 1.3 in it and the carb has just started to play up and springs arnt working like they used to. I wish to upgrade to something kinda cheap but effective until i finish my 1.6 off. What other carbs can bolt stright onto the original manifold... My friend has 1600 nikki carbs from a gemini, could these work?. Any idea where i can get linkage kits or can i jimmy something up?

Also if anyones got a 1600 crankshaft thats not buggered, give us a buzz!

  2. yeah ive been told the bcf2 is a good fit but so is the 234...

next question, who to buy it from? Dont really wanna go auckland cams as had a friend who got one for his v8  and it was just rubbish.. also dont really wanna buy from overseas..

  3. So.. rebuilding my 1.6 xflow as i blew a piston on xmas day.. its getting bored out to 60 thou, some nice new pistons, managed to get a ported head for it but will still be running the std 28/36 dvg weber until i get round to finding nice upgrade. Anyways im thinking 234 as i will be using as my almost daily driver...

    Thoughts and ideas?

  4. gotta rebuild mine as well, cracked piston on kaimais. gonna go for 1.3 pistons, bcf1 cam or 234(or something similar from auckland cams), double valve springs and still deciding on carb.. things ant cheap!

Anyone know what if any work needs to be done to the 1.3 pistons or can you just slap em onto your conrods and chuck em in?

  5. Hey team,

about a week ago i went to start the bad girl up but all i got was a click click coming from my solenoid(everything had been running sweet ). First thought was fuck... so went out and got a new solenoid, chucked it on and just got the same issue. My brother said my brushes are probably stuffed, so took the Lucas m35j down to my local man and got him to chuck some new brushes in. got home put it back in and bam away she went!!.... for a day. Took it for a drive and came back home, then went to start again and it cranked like it had a flat battery (brand new battery with plenty of CCA's) but eventually started. each time after that it cranked slow so i double checked all connections going from solenoid to starter to battery but nothing helped. Went to start her up this morning and im back to the click click... so im guessing what we thought was fixed obviously isnt?

    Any ideas out there???

-Got a brand new pinion put on about a month ago

    Cheers

  6. so turns out it was the dizzy. points not opening at all. dizzy shaft was scewed, lose as. took the old dizzy out of the 1.3 i took out of it, chucked new condenser and points on and bam there she goes.

I must add though, she doesnt give as much pull as she did before, i mean she goes, but not as well as she did when we first put her in.  could this be advanced timing??

But cheers for the help guys!

  7. nah nothing helped and its the original carb that came with the engine. it drives sweet low / partial throttle just when you hit that 100km sign put your foot down it just bogs out till you ease up

he pulled the top of the carb off cleaned it out, removed the jets, cleaned them, reassembled but no difference, no leaks or anything he doesnt think the secondaries are 'spraying' enough. took it to another mechanic for a quick look and he said the same thing. we took the top off and the secondarie barrel was dry compared to the other..

  8. Alright, about 2 months ago i replaced the old 1.3 engine in my mk2 escort with a nice 1.6 out of a sport. Ran sweet till 2 weeks ago. was cruising up the bombbays put my foot down and it just started to crap its pants and now does it every time i put my foot down... took it to the local mechanic who blew the jets out and checked the overall condition of the carb and he thinks its the secondaries (not sure if he knows exactly).. anyone had any similar problems with the dcds??
