tonight i got new bars and speedo put on!
clubmans and a nice little speedo from modern motorcycle company. the mount on the speedo was not bendable at all (found out the hard way) so i mocked up a little mount for it to go on the left side. still have to tidy it up and get looking a bit nicer. also have a mount the ingnition into the other hole on the fork yoke, or could make a new one that holds both of them instead of two separate mounts. also have to wire up the speedo backlight.
the joys of working at an indoor go karting place is that there is always shit lying round to use, and the boss man loves my bike so is always keen to help.
really liking how its coming together. next i will cover the seat, a better taillight set up and perhaps a muffler to make myself a little less noticeable.. not that that's always a bad thing

A few of us are organising a get together at the Cheltenham Hotel in Manawatu next Thursday (2 days after palmy plaza meet) 7 P.M. Would love to see a good turnout! Byo ministocks!
Come and join the gang for a few quiets and some grouse pub meals. Word on the street is with the right crowd, Cheryl behind the bar gets her top off! But don't take our word for it, find out for yourself!
have a go at the leather loungers!
a pub loved by all kinds of celebrities!
Leave a comment if you are keen so i have an idea on numbers or if you need any more information.
Cheltenham is on highway 54, bout 15 mins north of Feilding and 30 from P town, towards Vinegar Hill way.

that is unreal. loving the pipe. noticeable power increase?

those chambers sound so good aye. was stoked with mine too. pretty good performance wise too. i find it takes about 10 mins of riding before mine gets properly up to temp and will rev out every gear properly without 4 stroking, but once its there, its happy all day and goes like a cut cat
yeah had noticed the power ban was a tad sluggish. will take her for a ride this weekend. did you end up making a muffler for yours? kinda wanna look into that at some stage unsure what this will be like as a daily, an easy target to pull up then to find out its not registered.
i also cleaned the exhaust port and got rid of 30 years of carbon so should run a bit smoother. might look at rebuilding top end soon, piston and gaskets are showing their age.
and no need for parts but the owner of the fr80 i posted for sale last week is keen to buy it and restore/rat it out so someone do him a favour and help him fund another ax100

finally got round to fitting expansion chamber!
picked up an exhaust to cut up from olds cool autos. drama ensued when exhaust flange bolts were seized. one snapped off, another rounded.re-tapped holes and replaced with allen head bolts. grouse.
ol' jimmy from work welded the chamber together. made a swingarm mount out of some steel plate.
sounds unbelievable! like a sawn off shotgun. massive thanks to TMC for whipping it up, came out super lush!i want to paint it black as the header is rusty and a bit of surface rust is coming up on the chamber.
have ordered small speedo and clubman bars from modernmotorcycle company.
next job is relocating ignition and we're away caning!

ebay? there is one on the tard for $60, or you could buy a mikuni or keihin carb the same size if it fits?
i know Japanese motorcycle dismantlers in CHCH has some fa fiddy stuff, he had some parts for me recently.
-
yes! that bike has all good parts, except the exhaust which grabbed off of him
went and had a look today, he has some really cool stuff in his shed. old kawi twin 2 stroke 250 thing, xr500, and a fr50 he wasn't keen on parting with. also heeeeaps of a50 stuff! a few speedos there if youre keen.

Ben are these businesses common? had a quick google and find any locals. is this the equivalent to/would an auto electrician do this kinda stuff?
-
that is super sweet!
are these things like the old BSA's and shift on the right and brake on the left? wondering what that crazy lever thing is haha

RGV250's are not allowed on Learners licence.
http://www.nzta.govt.nz/licence/getting/motorcycles/lams.html
haha i had a good lol at this. surely is a typo, but it says that Suzuki GT550's are LAMS approved?
surely you cant be learner approved on a 2 stroke triple...

youre in the same boat as me haha, i have been caning mine around with a number plate off a different bike, no worries. makes me wonder if its worth paying the moneys just for a little rego tag.
older versions of this bike (A50, A100) would be the way to go, but if you can make a speedo cable to fit, then pretty much any 6v speedo should be the go. im guessing anything suzuki and 6v cant have changed much over the years? then again i could be wrong.
you could try Dime City Cycles for a one size fits all speedo, but i have found most of their stock suits 12v bigger bikes. then again theres always ali express
-
nice! have been using the same pic as you for inspiration as well haha.
i have a TF125 or a DR250 headlight on mine, cant remember as the dude i bought it off put it on for free.
is this thing warranted or registered?
-
ninjas tend to be a bit pricey these days, IMO. an RGV150 is what you need. supposedly have a top speed of 180 from standard. they are super rad, and fairly cheap too one of the last Japanese 2 stroke demons

better be of the two wheeled variety!

yes that makes sense, i would say most of the dealers who sold these kinds of bikes are long gone. both of mine (zuki ax100 and honda cg110) need re-vinning, more so the ax100 as its pretty much ready to go.
all frame and engine numbers are there, but as far as i can see no specific VIN (maybe they use frame number?). hopefully suzuki nz can help with the year, is it worth going to VTNZ beforehand and seeing if it the numbers come up in the system? was a stolen/recovered then sold on by big al motorcycle wreckers but came with no plates.
also: does bike need to be in ORIGINAL condition upon re-registration? have put new bars and bigger tyres on mine and re-mounted indicators etc. -
i didnt even know they did motorbikes? are there certain registered VCC's that they use or can it be from any "classic" vehicle club? my old man is on the committee for post-classic motorcycle racing and vintage motocross, was wondering if his two cents would mean anything to them.
these posts do not give me any confidence in re-registering my bike, considering i have NO proof of it being on the road in NZ before.
-
good find man! find a way to somehow mount the '50' engine on the fa50, then dort your way into the sunset

HALP
put rear end together (mudguard indicators factory seat etc) and the back indicators arent working. weird cos everything worked fine before i took them off. they are only single wired so im assuming there's no earthing problems?
put front indicators into the rear connectors. they dont work either, so its a connection problem.probably doesnt help that i dont have a working ammeter/voltmeter to check if i have current etc but i am rly puzzled. havent touched anything since i took them off to put new seat base on. everything else on the bike is functional except these, has anyone come across this problem before? the wiring diagram isnt really helping me either.
EDIT: blown fuse... dunno why i thought of checking until now but what do ya know. hopefully these are cheap/will solve my problem
-
gotcha. i was wondering whether to weld it where header meets cone or inside factory cone.
-
ahhhhh, was under the impression all vehicles' rego was dropping. gay ftp john key

TMC been whipping up some magic in the kitchen....
done an awesome job, so stoked on it.
so i am tossed up between putting it on asap for impulsive ringdings or being conservative kevin and waiting til after revin (really would like to wait til after july when regos will drop). anyone got a spare header lying around? lel

whipped up a mount for both the speedo and ignition. really like how my instrument cluster looks now!
quality was not this speedo's strong point, trying to crimp a connector on the positive end, the whole cable snapped off the bulb. will have to solder it back on when i need a light on my speedo haha
enjoying how it looks, not enjoying how it runs. 4 stroking when cold (really spluttery in 1st, other gears fine) and dying on me. am only just beginning to teach myself the art of 2 stroke tuning, tuned it when first put on the pipe cos it was ridiculously rich and bogging out at a blip of the throttle. is this just a running in phase? or could it be more than fuel mixture? problems have only popped up since the temperatures have been dropping with winter and such.
anyway it looks cool, even if it doesnt run well.
