  1. So there it is ready to go together, rotors are now assembled, hoping to get time on Monday to assemble engine, I have the exhaust ports raised only to a certain height, mainly to keep the peak power lower in the rev range, also the 3B inlet ports are kept stock as if you start going much higher it will start to compromise the engines power, running a full length bridge on the front and rear plates. N/A engines are critical with port size so this is where my ports will stay, turbo on the other hand can handle a far bigger port. I may in the future look at bridging the primary's but this will fly with the rx3 carb modified correctly with manual secondary's and also the correct exhaust, in which my case, my current exhaust is completely wrong, so there's another grand gone! Keeping a tally I've spent about 25k to date, but then sometimes it's probably not a good thing to think about.

  2. Yeah all very similar stuff and colours, and I guess being all mazda a lot of stuff could well be generic across some cars, front seats look very close, trims and back seat look different but similar, never had anything to do with 323. I become a rotor head at age of 20, to many years ago to remember it all, I do miss my old rx2 sedan tho

  3. Wonder what happened to the other 8 Savannas?

There's one in Dunedin, from what Brian told me, and another one up wellington way is owned by some guy who's in the army, And 75rx3 appears to have one also. I wonder if his car is a NZ new one.

  4. So the engine is almost ready to assemble, end plates have been ported, keeping the factory 3B centre plate port stock will provide reasonable economy with the 4 barrel carby, I have decided to go for a bridgeport for the front and rear end plates. Basically I want good fuel economy but when the secondaries kick in, it will still haul arse, port size makes or breaks a fast n/a engine. So just stick to what been race proven over many years. I won't have the same power as running a ida but I've been there and done that, and I want to keep it more stock and drivable whilst shutting the bitch up on the exhaust noise side of things. Exhaust will need looking at as it's completely wrong for my engine, so down the track I'll get that sorted at a local place that's done quite a few rotors and he understands how critical they are to having a tuned system, although not so much for a secondary bridge. Hope to have some engine pics up in the next few days, hope everyone has a great long weekend!

  5. Did they have fender mirrors? Sounds interesting, according to RXSUMO there was only one shipment of RX3s into NZ. //oldschool.co.nz/index.php?/topic/32841-old-mazda-rotary-pics/page-2#entry873426

Did the other NZ new cars that didn't have a savanna badge on them have the same interior colour combo? Personally I prefer the dogbone style lights but thats just personal preference.

Just spoke to Brian regarding tail lights, dash etc, the NZ new 75 savanna was basically the last of the models sold to NZ, 9 came into NZ identical to my interior, just tried to jazz them up a little, by going to the tan interior with black dash etc, keeping with the square gauges of the earlier super deluxe and also keeping the round tail light configuration, they moved the fuel pump to under the passengers rear guard like the rx2 series 1. Which I also have the original box and mounts out of it that Brian gave me. So I guess it's different from the black, but more important I guess it's even rearer, but only if you like the tan, I myself prefer black. So one day I may die it, will see how it goes . So it seems like a last ditch attempt to get rid of them into the market before oil crisis appeared. I guess at the end of the day it's what each prefer all black and black/tan. You know my thoughts :)

  6. Brian knows of someone else with a savanna coupe, but there wasn't many that came here, he thought about 9 in total, either way I guess it's a rear thing with the brown, he gave me the chassis number that was cut out of the firewall so could possibly track its history.

  7. I'd have to have a look through the interior as I take it all out, think the carpets are in pretty good shape and I'll probably have to split to get rid of everything. So anything you want I can photograph for you, there's the odd crack here and there, mainly why I brought the new interior. I have a super delux badge, I'm guessing should have a gt badge. Brian's not sure what it had. Beauty of it all I could die it all black if I really had to.

  8. Not sure if it had mirrors, may have, I'd have to ask Brian from Rotary Research in Christchurch who brought it new. Think only the NZ new savanna had the tan interior, and the savanna badge instead of the mazda rx3 badge, yeah I perfer the round lights lol so everyone's different I guess.
