  1. That would be awesome thanks man you're a legend
  2. Na pretty sure its a 12v bike the previous owners couldn't get any spark with 6v and the electric start won't turn over with 6v
  3. So which wire is my charge wire? The original regulator is covered in rust, it is up in CHCH with that A50 engine you are after haha. Are the coils not made for 12V?
  4. Yea the yellow wire connects to the coils as well I think. If I connect just the yellow and earth to a battery the motor starts to turn over. Could I use one of these to control the voltage, current? http://www.trademe.co.nz/business-farming-industry/industrial/generators-power-supply/solar/auction-840774541.htm
  5. Hahaha yea I stumbled upon that guy too, thought he was my mate until he tryed to sell me a wiring diagram for like $40. No worries with the condenser she works a treat.
  6. Here is another photo with the dynamo pulled apart Kempy. The red wire connects to one of the brushes and the other brush connects to the earth. The green wire connects to the wire that is coiled around the magnets inside the motor.
  7. Cheers for the replies guys here is a close up of the dynamo. The thick yellow wire is the start wire, the black wire is the spark wire which leaves the red and green wires for the charge light and the actual charging. I am guessing that the green wire is for charging as this provided more current to the dc motor that I tested them with. The old voltage regulator looks completely shot so I would like to replace it with something new and solid state. Basically it looks like I need a voltage regulator, a current regulator and a cutout relay to prevent overcharging.
  8. I have just about finished getting it all back together, need to shorten the stand to suit the shortened springs in the shocks! I got started on the wiring today and have sorted the electric start and coil running off of the key. I also took a look at the charging system which is pretty interesting because it is really just a dc motor being spun to generate power. There are two wires coming out of the engine for the charging system one red and one green. If I hook a 12v dc motor up to each wire they both spin the motor however the green wire sounds like it is loading up the engine more than the red one. Could this be like a heavy duty and light duty charge system? Do I just need to wire that up to a 12v regulator and then to the battery? Any help would be great here is a photo of how it looks at the moment.
  9. So exciting to start piecing it all together again!
  10. Time for an update. I have been busy prepping and painting the individual parts. Put a por15 tank sealer kit in the tank to sort the leeks and bogged up the dints. Was going to go with the same sort of blue but couldn't find the right rattlecans so went with beige, pics below
  11. Bought it for $80 so would be stoked with that however I would be open to any reasonable offers now I know it needs a bore. Would also swap for a pair of back shocks, someone has done a rough job of hard tailing this and I would be keen to put it back to stockish with suspension.
  12. Progress has been slow lately due to uni exams but they are over now so back into it. Gave up on fitting the A50 engine, it isnt going to fit without a welder (anyone want an A50 engine?). So I'm back trying to sort the issues with the original engine. They are pretty much sorted I had to cast a new cluch worm from the original one but the clutch is stiff as and the drive engages when the lever is pulled?? Also pulled it to pieces and started stripping the paint.
  13. The 0.5mm oversize piston was not originally in the A50 engine. My guess is that the barrel has not been bored before as this piston is fairly tight in it. Might take the barrel into a machinist and see if I can get it bored out. Does anyone have any recommendations in the chch area?
  14. The piston is pretty much new and is 0.5mm oversize. Don't really want to fork out the cash for a big bore kit
  15. I gave the barrel of the a50 a bit of a tidy up to remove some surface rust and found some scoring. Have added a photo what are people's thoughts on running as is or do I need to get it bored?
  16. Sweet thanks! Here is a pic of attempt one at fitting the engine. You can see the A50 is a fair bit bigger than the original sitting next to it. Cheers for the contact I will hit up that guy when I run into issues
  17. I think I'm retarded because I can't find the button to post images. I clicked more reply options but the button to attach stuff isn't coming up. Anyway I got fed up with this engine and bought an A50 engine with the intention of putting it onto this frame. The engine doesn't have a piston but I am hoping that the piston from the m15 will fit anyone know? I also bought a por15 fuel tank sealing kit.
  18. After hours of googling I finally found a wiring diagram for the bike! Heres the link http://www.dansmc.com/suzy_m15d.pdf Now it is just a matter of figuring out what it all means if anyone has had experience with these old starter dynamo setups I would be keen to hear from you.
  19. Yea want to get it rideable so I don't lose motivation and then that's the plan. Just had a crack at getting the electric start to go with the big thick yellow wire and the black ground but it just made a groaning sound without turning over. Maybe I wasn't getting enough contact because it was a brand new battery. Might pull it to bits to find the starter motor so I can see what that wiring looks like.
  20. Awesome cheers for that. Do you remember what wires you used to get the electric start to go? If I cant get a voltage out of it I might just rig up a little external alternator with a pulley system for a bit of a laugh.
  21. Whoops probably should have put this in the bike projects can someone move it or can I delete it?
  22. Hey guys first time poster long time watcher. I am based in CHCH study mech engineering at UC and I have acquired this old suzuki moped. Looking on here it seems this bike is a bit of slut and has been the project of many people. The following is what I understand has been done to it. Top end rebuild New points Paint job Currently it has a few issues included a cracked clutch engager worm gear (no clutch), leaky fuel tank, missing kick start lever, no wiring, no seat and the paint has gone all faded. I have had her running and she goes pretty good. From what I understand these have a dc motor inside of them that is used as an alternator as well as a starter so that shouldn't be too hard to wire up. So the plan is to sort the clutch and fuel leak so I can get it running properly and then start to sort the wiring. Probably wont worry about the kickstart as the spline is screw because someone had a crack at welding the lever on. Should be sweet with the electric start anyway and I can push start it until i sort out the wiring. Also pretty stuck for ideas on a seat that would suit this style bike with the low down fuel tank. Anyway would love to hear from any of the guys who have worked on this for some tips and ideas. Heres a pic of the bike and the cracked clutch worm anyone know where I can find this part?
