  1. Hey internet strangers, I'm looking at buying a big old pickup which is preferably diesel and RHD,

    have found this one for sale;

    http://www.trademe.co.nz/Browse/Listing.aspx?id=1055350017

    if you have any info to share please do,

    my other two trucks i would like would be a jeep j20 well side with a cummins 6bt retrofitted or a dodge 96 pickup with cummins turbo diesel.

    the trade one is a GMC sierra 2500 1993 6.5L turbo diesel RHD which isn't very common but requires a cof, (would be a business vehicle)

    am a bit worried about the independent front end? and cof

    cheers in advance.

  2. hey I just brought an old set of what I would call "cheviot hustler" mags, which are the wrong 5 stud pattern for my bitchn 83 L300 low top, however they don't have any markings on them/brand name etc,

    my question is; are these able to get a cert given they don't have a brand/id etc? and if I can, can I run adaptors for them?

    cheers max

  3. the first time i got done for slot someone else had been doing reverse FWD skids in the car i was sober driving, there was probably 50 cars there ( back in the day) cops turned up and everyone started to leave, i got done for slot, failing to stop (didn't know they were after me) and 'dangerous driving'. had community service, house curfew , fines, 6 month loss of licence, night in the cells.

    second time i chirped the tyres up a street and the cops apparently herd my car doing skids and done me for it, my mate mentioned in front of the cop that "i shouldn't have done that cause your wife is going to be pissd" (they used that in court) when they ask you to sign there notebook NEVER sign it, they will tell you otherwise.and only say what you have to to the cops.

    not sure what will happen the third time, do they still crush your car third time around?

  4. How did i notice this only now?

    Cool find but i hate to think what else they're chucking out.

    Almost sure you're thinking bradford/jowette products.

    yep there was some choice old 'junk' that was going to get dumped. didn't have time to sift through it, we scored some sweet old rimu firestation doors , had to hijack a digger to drag the stewart from its hidey hole. was heaps of old tools, woodworking gear, vintage lights\headlghts , front ends diffs, radiators etc etc

  5. Don't change any axles and don't Z/notch the frame and it shouldn't be classed as a new build.

    This is fairly correct and good advise.  Get the note from the son asap

    cool, contacted the son and he is going to write a note with the chassis number etc, happy to keep original axles\diff, c notch after wof

  6. sorry if being a bit vague but not up with the play on putting an old car back on the rd. I'm happy to get a cert, but I thought if you had done a few things then it would be considered a new build etc,

    my biggest worry is that I don't have enough info to put it back on the rd. I can't get an ownership paper because the guys dead, I can probably get a statement from the geezers son saying it was his dads etc if it would help.

    cheers for the help guys.

  7. will have to ask my f in law, he has a buddy stewart, i recall him saying in nz the colonial cab ones were fitted with all sorts from whoever the coachbulder was that built it, the cab on my truck was presumably built by some business in 1936 fitted with some engine and put to work, they would have started with just the firewall forward and the chassis I'm guessing, someone with more intelligence than me may be able to help as my knowledge on this old stuff is limited . cheers for the pic and link.

  8. You will need a cert/declaration for the gearbox swap alone so you may as well cert the whole vehicle once you have done all the modifications.

    I am highly doubtful that the original driveshaft (it's probably a torque tube) will slot into the back of a Japanese gearbox.

    no torque tube in this pickup, in that case I would look at running an old crash box of similar vintage. main aim of this is getting it on the rd and not just another project in the shed. cheers

  9. Hi Clint, I've acquired a new project, its a 36 stewart pick up colonial cab.

    old guy died and the son gave it to me for free.

    My question is;

    How\can I put it back on the rd without too much hassle?

    It has old black plates on it (ER7165) , nz rego stickers from the early 80's and two original body\build tags on it.

    My father in law has 3 of them, reckons they came with all sorts of different engines, whatever was available at the time etc. He says I should restore it , put a flathead v8 in it with a toyota box, and that it won't need a cert, is he correct? we think it is set up for a flathead v8. only part that would differ is the gearbox crossmember. (I'm a ticketed welder)

    heres a link to some photos if it helps,

    //oldschool.co.nz/index.php?/topic/53537-maxpower-1936-stewart-beater-pick-up/

    P.s not wanting an expensive flashy hot rod just a cool old pickup

    Thanks in advance

  10. If the stickers on the window have the same rego as those old black number plates is good enough to prove it was reged in nz before according to NZTA.

    true? had a look at the stickers and there doesn't seem to be any plate number on the rego sticker, does mean that it has been on nz roads at some point

    hope its not going to be a major.

  11. really don't like the front screen, theres room to put a bigger one in, on the back of the tray are two old brass framed front screens out of something early i found in the shed where i picked this thing up. I'm thinking i can use two of them to make one good one as they are quite narrow, but have a nice shape. look like model Y ford screens.
