sorry if being a bit vague but not up with the play on putting an old car back on the rd. I'm happy to get a cert, but I thought if you had done a few things then it would be considered a new build etc, my biggest worry is that I don't have enough info to put it back on the rd. I can't get an ownership paper because the guys dead, I can probably get a statement from the geezers son saying it was his dads etc if it would help. cheers for the help guys.

would love one of those knocker engines they sound so sweet. strange design though. also would like a small detroit.. -
will have to ask my f in law, he has a buddy stewart, i recall him saying in nz the colonial cab ones were fitted with all sorts from whoever the coachbulder was that built it, the cab on my truck was presumably built by some business in 1936 fitted with some engine and put to work, they would have started with just the firewall forward and the chassis I'm guessing, someone with more intelligence than me may be able to help as my knowledge on this old stuff is limited . cheers for the pic and link.

no torque tube in this pickup, in that case I would look at running an old crash box of similar vintage. main aim of this is getting it on the rd and not just another project in the shed. cheers
-
not sure it would need a declaration for the motor if that is what it is set up for, as they came out with a variety of engines?.. cheers though

not sure mate, they came out with anything and everything, my f in law has a lycombing fitted to one and a flathead v8 60 in another and forget the other one.. his jowet has a flat 4 in it? -
so who has an old stuffed planter box flathead v8 block for free\cheap? someone should rescue those old flatheads from the airport in the left to rot thred and donate them to the cause. are flatties all the same mounting pattern?

Hi Clint, I've acquired a new project, its a 36 stewart pick up colonial cab. old guy died and the son gave it to me for free. My question is; How\can I put it back on the rd without too much hassle? It has old black plates on it (ER7165) , nz rego stickers from the early 80's and two original body\build tags on it. My father in law has 3 of them, reckons they came with all sorts of different engines, whatever was available at the time etc. He says I should restore it , put a flathead v8 in it with a toyota box, and that it won't need a cert, is he correct? we think it is set up for a flathead v8. only part that would differ is the gearbox crossmember. (I'm a ticketed welder) heres a link to some photos if it helps, //oldschool.co.nz/index.php?/topic/53537-maxpower-1936-stewart-beater-pick-up/ P.s not wanting an expensive flashy hot rod just a cool old pickup Thanks in advance

true? had a look at the stickers and there doesn't seem to be any plate number on the rego sticker, does mean that it has been on nz roads at some point hope its not going to be a major. -

yeah we love it, so much work though, will make a sweet camper. has a tawa? t&g floor in the back, reckon it would be sweet decked out in native timber in the back and a late model diesel up the front. -
really don't like the front screen, theres room to put a bigger one in, on the back of the tray are two old brass framed front screens out of something early i found in the shed where i picked this thing up. I'm thinking i can use two of them to make one good one as they are quite narrow, but have a nice shape. look like model Y ford screens.

heres me and my wifes old ambo we picked up from burt watchorns museum in whakatane a few years ago, finally brought it home and put it in the shed, this thred is more of a photo storage as I'm sure nothing will happen to it for a few years. am after a cab as the floor is rusty in this one and would be nice to find a good floorpan its a A110 model. paid $1000 for it.

could look like this but probably not as flash. and a lot more low
-
I'm hoping I can put it back on the rd without too much hassle with the plates, rego and id plates, anyone know what issues i would have? I mean if i blast and prime it all , fix any rust taking heaps of photos along the way shouldn't be to much of a headache? i don't want to have to fit seat belts and all that modern stuff
-
lush interior has horse drawn cart pics on the seats
-
more shitty pics. is really solid apart from the doors will need work by a woodworker\boat builder etc
-
side view with crappy phone

my father in law has 3 nice stewart pick-ups, guess he didn't want 4. he also has a few spares i may have to raid. these things are pretty hard to come by he reckons and thinks there are probably only 20 in nz. plans are to sand bast everything and get it on the rd as a beater, with a flathead v8 and toyota 5 speed box, its way too high though.. and it won't happen overnight.
