  1. Well today was a bit of a slow one so more progress was made on the Healing. I spoke to a friend who had heaps of shit bikes and I grabbed a seatpost and seat off him so we could take it for a ride, despite costing $3 mechanically its pretty sweet so im stoked about that. A bit of a play showed that having the handlebars upside down makes the bike ideal for doubling so footrests were welded on.

    Bit of a test ride

The frame looked a bit empty after all of that so I wired the nuts off the Corolla on it and stuck on an old numberplate.

So im basically done now for the moment, we are getting some more parts on Friday but that's about it really.

  2. Allright, quick update on the old Healing, I brought a valve adaptor so I was able to put some air in the tyres and take it for a ride

So far the adaptor is the most expensive part of the project at $5 taking the total cost including the bike to $8, I have to admit this is way easier on the pocket than cars! During a bit of testing it became apparant that the stem was not going to be any good because it wouldnt go in deep enough to hold it firmly so a mate gave me an old stem off one of his old bikes and that does the job better now.

And in with the new. The tape was removed from the handlebars because it was crap and the handlebars flipped. It takes a bit of getting used to but its quite comfortable, especially when I have a nice spring seat which I am going to get from a friend in Thames on Friday. The plan is to have it done by the weekend so I can cruise down to dromeageddon on it so before then I need to find a 25mm seat post, a spring seat and a cargo rack for the back.

Schools basically done so way more progress is about to be made, I stuck some pedals on it tonight and tried to take it for a ride but the tyres were a bit flat, not a problem a thought, but then......

Dunlop Valves grrrr. Id never came across these before so I don't have an adapter for them but its halted all riding for the moment, would someone in Rotorua have one I could borrow to get it rolling? First picture doesn't really show the condition of the frame really well, its got heaps of surface rust on it cos its from the coromandel so i'm just going to leave it its kinda grown on me having a bike not worried about scratching.

On another note my cousin has some parts he is going to drop off to me in the weekend so more progress next week.

  4. I got me a Healing Skylark of a recycling centre for $3 and im not sure what I want to do with it, its got a bit of surface rust but it seems to go ok. There doesn't seem to be much info for it but im thinking chrome pannier rack with swappa crate, flipped road bike handles and a bit of maintenance.

    Whats your thoughts?

    oh and a seat haha

  5. Yeah, I would like some old school rims but I am not in the position to buy any at the moment, 0 offset is pretty wishful, to be honest, any steel rim with a bit more offset would be nice. I'm not worried to much about rubbing as I want to stick with 13's, I already have good tyres in that size I just want to make it wider.

  6. Right, I haven't done an update in a while mostly because nothing big has happened really, just been doing heaps of k's in it. I have been getting around to doing some little stuff in it, the most major being repairing the back of the back seats a couple of weeks ago, it was badly sun damaged.

Overall progress photo with an AA and JAF badge scored for cheap from the Rotorua swap meet

Big up's to Paul Newton Upholsterers in Rotorua, he taught me a heap of stuff about upholstering and I don't think it looks too bad for my first go.

Also got my roofracks in the mail, come in handy so far for picking up sheet for school metalwork project.

Interior wise, it did not come with any floor mats so I cut some up out of fake grass, do the job well but are starting to molt around the corners though.

Chucked in a UHF I got for a trade for cleaning some trucks when I was 13, aerials a bit small but apparently that's how long it's supposed to be for its frequency. And yesterday I went for a drive and spotted this on the side of the road, complete with 2 cobys, score.  :-)

If its yours or you genuinely have a use for it they are all yours, the bigger one is a bit rough but the small one is pretty tidy.

Now that i'm up to date, I am due for some new rear tyres but im not really happy with the rims, I feel they let the car down so something has to change. I still have all the original trim rings and hubcaps although the trim rings are in pretty bad condition now as the chrome is coming off and the hubcaps are not much better.

    post-18166-0-23242800-1407648601_thumb.jpg

My thoughts are to paint them black and get some new chrome rings and polished bearing caps  but I really want a bit more offset so I have my eyes peeled for some about 0 offset 4x100 steel wheels, not fussed about condition as long as they are not bent. Any ideas? It needs to be cheap though.

Any ideas flick them up //oldschool.co.nz/index.php?/topic/43417-gnarlydudes-1985-ee80-toyota-corolla/?hl=ee80

  7. You can make your own, I made some for my Mums car out of some really flash carpet offcuts, just cut them out at home and took them to the rug store and they put a nice stitch around the edge so they don't fray. They charged $5 a mat and have lasted very well and have the benefit that you can have so many different styles. One thing I would do differently would be to get them to sow a patch of Vinyl or something where the drivers heels go as they are getting a bit matted (haha mat pun),

  8. Ok another update

Had a good day doing some little things to it, sprayed the grill and some stuff under the bonnet black and touched up all the chips and rust in some country creme (not kidding). After speaking to a heap of different people about my plug for the sub, it looks very similar to a molex plug but is slightly different dimensions and I decided just to pull the back off and see if I could just cut the wires and solder a plug on, I was welcomed with this. 2nac.jpg

Now usually I will give anything a go but I wave the white flag. In the back of the plug there are what seems to be wire roads that send power straight to the board and I have no idea if it is possible to solder wires to these so it is a work in progress.

    BUT

After a heap of looking I have got some roof racks to got on the C-rolla, a bargain at $12.00 so they will go on when a friend picks them up from the mount next weekend. Will stick some pics up when they go on.

  9. Quick update

My cousin brought his first ca the other day and he is a bit of music lover so I went to Auckland to help him stick a stereo in it. Long story short a my uncles friend knew someone who had some old audio gear and I ended up with a 8" sub. It looks like it could tidy up quite nice and a bit of bass is what i'm missing but I have no idea where to find a plug for it. Does anyone recognize this plug?

    Anyway, everyone loves pictures :)
