please don't tell me you are going to hack up that nice original tan interior.

    it does look rather mint.

I am not hacking it up at all in any stretch of imagination! There was a fella down in Dunedin who bought a KE30 project and he has bought all of this tan interior.
I wouldn't hack up an old school mint interior, would only replace with original parts. Which is what I am doing :D

Is the stuff from Malaysia new or second hand?  And just off ebay or what?  Looks like it should be pretty rad.

Either New, Second hand or NOS. Depends what comes up really. And no, not eBay. either FaceBoobs or just whatever my agent finds. there's a big old school community over there

hey am keen to hear some more about how you brought your parts from malaysia, and what you do for freight etc, have a ke25 coupe and keen on a few things. cheers

I have an agent over there, I find parts online, he finds them around the country and then we ship them over here.
If you need anything for your 25, let me know. Would be happy to help if I can :)

  3. So I have the week off and the parents went off to Brisbane for the week, what are the chances...
I've pinched their shed for the week so I can ho into this KE30 and get it all stripped down and see how far on I can get with it.

I went to Mitre10 and bought a wire wheel for the grinder as well as a stripping disc to get me underway. I should probably have just paint stripped it, but I still would have had to use the strip disc to get the remainders off, and this is the original paint so is super thin so will come off in no time.

So i bought the car in, chucked it on stands and took the exterior panels off

Got the wire brush attachment out and cleaned this up in no time at all

    34398597141_1530076ae5_o.jpg

Probably the worse section of rust on the entire car.

I gave it another once over

    Did the other side

Got the stripper disc out and made quick work of the roof. surprising how bad the back aches doing this for a long period of time. Looks like I will have to have a skim of filler on the roof to fill in the pits from the rust

    34142969340_5941c3d96a_o.jpg

So. This is the rust I have to contend with on the car, for a KE30. This is nothing!

    Front left underside.

    Rear windscreen

    34142956800_aa2b8cc2e9_o.jpg

i was attacking the outside of the rear left when I noticed something I wasn't expecting to be honest. Some boggy.

    33685735364_71676e8233_o.jpg

Stripped it, looks like the only damage is along the ridge which is minuscule (just small pits) however the entire exposed section was bogged. strange.

  4. Uhh, well. two project, no worries.

I bought this off trademe a few months back, original EVERYTHING which was super cool, even have the original registration card from 1977 from Toyota Otago. Was in a family for years and years and sold the guy I got it from who had it for a few years but didn't do much with it. Came with two new front guards (taiwan made) they fit up ok too which is a bonus.

Plans. I will stick to them this time round!

-Convert to OG black interior, not a fan of the tan personally.
-Rebuild current 3K motor that's in it, or fire it up and see how it goes
-Do panel and paint myself. Learn along the way. Shell is super straight, few rusty spots as all these KE30's do but that's ok.
-Fit super cool accessories like Monsoons,  and every piece of chrome available (Which will usually be from a Hi-Deluxe KE30)

This picture is my inspiration, I am going to go with a similar deep blue also

    33787101500_82ccedd9cc_o.jpg

Anyway, here is the old bomb for now

A few weeks later, I had got some goodies over from Malaysia. Included, Monsoons, rear window quarter shades, door/outer window chrome edging, all the black interior panels, black U Channel moulds, 3-spoke steering wheel. Just need to buy some black carpet and wait for the dash to come over as well as the door cards

    33360547093_6b3bfd1953_o.jpg

Now it'll go sit back in its hole until I drag it out to take more tan yuckness out

  5. The purpose i am needing one at the moment is for dialing in cams for an engine so figured the digital would be best for that. It wouldn't hurt to have digital and analogue. I'll see how these auctions go anyways. Cheers for the recommendations for the stands!

  6. I went an Yahoo and found a digital Mitutoyo Dial Indicator. Also found a digital Mitutoyo micrometer so will do some bidding on these and see if I can strike some luck and get them for cheap!

Also bidding on a Mitutoya stand and digital caliper on Trademe. Truth be told I might use all these bits 2 times a year. But when I do used them I will be glad I have good gear

  7. So I made up a parts bath using a big old plastic container and mixing 50/50 degreaser-water and letting parts go swim for a day or so then water blast them and tooth brush clean them.

Today I did the bellhousing, the gearbox outer casings, tail shaft housing and rocker covers are soaking at the moment.

After a clean, has come up pretty good!

    33958510281_93c409b7bf_o.jpg

I then set onto installing the new clutch fork assembly. Using all new OEM parts gives the peace of mind that everything will be all nice and dandy.

    33704086440_6e3e6ddc68_o.jpg

Strange, can't get the fork clips new from Japan but found them on https://partsouq.com/ so that was good. The ones I had spare were all rusty.

    33958514971_fbab4d2083_o.jpg

    Clean backside/booty. always nice.

    34088532185_24ec781a2e_o.jpg

I dummy fitted the new bolts to make sure I had them all. Found that I was missing the starter motor bolts so those will be added next to the OEM order which is already 20 items long.

Not the most interesting update... but the next one will be the head install ;)

  8. So head is taking a big longer than initially planned as a sensor on the CNC that was being used to port the head died so next week sometime I am expecting to receive the head so can finally piece it all together!

Today to make me feel like things were still progressing I bolted up the flywheel... yeah. Exciting...

I also made sure I put the sandwich plate on too as I have done it a couple of times where I bolted on the gearbox/flywheel/clutch to find I forgot to do it and have also seen a couple of others do it too :-D

    33502080080_e5fd13ae82_o.jpg

Socket makes a great flywheel stopper too.
Think the flywheel is 3.8kg's. Probably not ideal for a street car, but this won't be a daily so will still be fun when I get it out on the occasions.

    33043185354_9636bb81e0_o.jpg

After driving the new spiggot bearing into place I thought it would be best to actually see how much contact was made on the input shaft. I just put vivid on the end of the shaft, slipped the box on and gave it a few rotations

    33073433153_d81f69e737_o.jpg

Looks like I drove the bearing in a bit too much... I whipped everything off and pulled the bearing out a bit. No need to recheck now, a few mm would have done the job

    33730221422_83fec05b55_o.jpg

I have chosen to go with SSR MK2 feet too. If you know of any, let me know! Thinking of going 8J in the rear and 6.5J in the front

  9. Well, been a while. Much has happened with no photos taken. Man i'm awesome.

-Have Willwoods in the front, man what a difference!
-Have an alloy radiator in the front
-Have a new windscreen as the one in it decided to shatter to pieces on the way home from Toyotafest at Hampton downs. 6 hour drive with A/C on full blast, myself and my girlfriend wore helmets the whole time with bugs exploding on our helmets.

Cheers to the OS boys who stopped on the way back! I've got some photos somewhere that I will add sometime.

These photos are courtesy of.. ahh..... 0MEGAH|HAGEM0 ?
just did some cropping and visual edits for aesthetics.

Super happy with the car, once the narrow tyres warmed up it was a weapon on the track! Got it sideways a few times with a grin ear to ear.
    More track days are required.

    Due to come
-Vertex body kit which will have to be painted

  10. Today I received my Route 6 close ratio T50 from Japan. Bought in an auction with 25mm large T series axles and an LSD 3.9 diff head to go in this build mainly. It was listed as having a broken gear. Being the gambling man I am I took a punt on it and 4th* is damaged. I have some spare T50 bits that I could take in and probably get it fixed, but I also checked the gear ratios and to be honest I think I will just stick to the standard T50 and sell this one off! These go for good money for the racers, will look into getting this fixed first.

What colour paint you gonna go in the end? My vote is that awesome looking factory blue / green on ya front end....

Yes. It isn't a factory colour, those panels have been resprayed in their time in Japan at some point.

I'll get it colour matched to it though as i love the colour. Seeing the guards, bonnet and 1/2 the front end that turquoise blue it definitely got the vote from me too.

  12. To be honest, I should have cut the springs in half from the get go.
I cut the springs for no other reason that to make it more pleasant in the shed to look at until the coilovers go in.
The right side of the car is a bit higher than the left, I will probably end up with a height similar to the higher side.

Not long until the engine goes in!!

I also installed my new valance courtesy of Yahoo Japan. The tape is holding the paint/rust on. I decided on a new one as the one I had previously wasn't the straightest and would require some more. Plus I didn't actually own it... 33652892451_9ccbcf94d9_o.jpg

That seems like the best part of the specs haha. Why is the competitor in Chinese? Seems almost like a dodgy ripoff filter?

Edit: The image was just translated from Japanese and those kanji characters are just the remains

Yeah it's all good. it came with an invoice from Toyota itself so no dodgy rip off.

It lends a sporty feel to the engine compartment. rip off or not, what more could you possible want from an oil filter.
