I began to start looking around for the bolt on bits for the water lines, alternator bracket/alternator to get the motor supplied with the car going however another motor popped up removed from an AE85 as a complete running motor. to save me the mucking around sorting the supplied motor, thought it would be a heck of a lot easier just to use this new one! And it started pretty much first pop (had to replace ECU and set timing). This car has laid dormant for a while. Back before when this was N/A...I had low oil pressure. I mean there was some oil pressure, I could drive it around but it never was as high as it should be. I had to swap the sump over on the motor for the turbo drain so out came the motor, thought i'd check the bearing caps. they weren't perfect and not perfect on a motor that had done 1500 k's since rebuild was not good enough. Took the short block in to the machine shop. Turns out the thrust tolerance was too loose and it was loosing a lot of oil pressure out of there. This was a good find. I had to get the block line bored too. that was expensive. I thought it would be much easier to start with a clean base so I bought a set of AE86 looms. Now I know where everything is, it has wiring for a fpump, has EFI relays and wiring. It's been an exciting few weeks getting updates on the car as more gets done. Here's a drop of what's going on at the moment. Not long now! To start with, I deloomed the original headlight hardness, removing odds and ends I won't use on there - Ran another wire which controls the fog lights - Relocated the battery wires to inside the cabin, the battery will sit under the passenger seat. Okey dokey, here are the spec's! F Series rear end Shortened axles/housing (axles are cut, shortened, welded back together) Redrilled to 4 x 114.3 S14 Silvia rear brakes BMW E30 rotors Redrilled to 4 x 114.3 Hubcentric spares made up each side to fix the different hole size between BMW E30 bore. F Series is definitely the in between of T Series and G Series (Hilux). And will definitely handle Le Jandle more than T series. But if you don't plan on doing skids or drifts, late axle T Series will be just as sufficient. The front bumper really doesn't appreciate the slam but.. but pics!!

Alrighty The car has undergone a few changes. Something that drastically needed attention was the rear spring perches on the diff. The diff is an F series out of a Liteace Van and had the AE86 mounts swapped on to it. What a great idea I thought! as I purchased this off TradeMe.. Check out the state of this. Cheers! I did the same thing to my KE30. It was well worth it, considering getting off cuts from a carpet shop (usually they're full pieces, not the dregs like I get) is free well worth it. In terms of noise reduction, it juts makes the sound a bit more muffled, it doesn't cure cancer but it definitely makes a noticeable difference The area attached to the outer skin is pretty plastic'y so can't really absorb too much but I will definitely keep an eye on that. There's a nice access hole below the rear door catch so easy to check Thanks for the tip!

Howdy fellow isolated friends. I got my crossmember adjusted for my W55. I couldn't figure out where a vibration was coming from and narrowed it down to the driveshaft. Doing a UJ angle check I got it pretty much dialed in with spacers under the box to get it 2.5 deg on both ends, then got the member remade to sit where the spacers took it to 20200221_105825 by phillipbaines, on Flickr I made a patch harness by cutting a plug out of another small port ECU. Got the Link to fire up the motor and had the timing set. I did't have time to get it tuned for Toyota Fest so ran the old ECU down. It's been reasonably quiet in the past year. I've done next to nothing on this car... since Toyota Fest last year: Drive shaft remade/balanced New rear hub centric rings for the rear discs. This was necessary due to the BMW rotors. I had the centres drilled out to be the same as the Longchamps on the rear. They're nice and snug. The Longchamps have a tapered centre bore so the spacers can't fall out.. Swapped in my 4A-GZE motor that's running on the stock small port ECU for now. Turbo time after Toyota Fest this year Swapped in the original Intake Manifold, runs heaaaps better on the stock ECU which makes sense. This weekend I decided to go ask about getting some carpet underlay to whip under neath the carpet in the cabin to make it a bit more homely. Ended up getting a big slab of it for free! It's been a long time since i've done a post, because it's been a long time to get me motivated to install the wiper linkeages. I ended up just buying some M18 x 1.0 pitch nuts off ebay for $15, and a week later they arrived. instead of procrastinating about it for 4 months i really should have done it sooner.... Since last update: Installed AE92 FX-GT front seat belts Installed previous exhaust from old KE30 which is 2.5" to the extractors and a nice dumpy at the end Rebuilt front brakes, it's nice when they work properly. installed a new healthier 4K motor and went to a chinese carb from eBay that actually performs quite well. I will go with a weber 28/36 if I can find one but it's good for the interim New Coils, plugs, leads, fuel filter (the other new one i bought has clogged up with garbage. Not surprised) Installed 3.9 ratio diff head from a KE70 to fix it's awfully high revs with the 4.3 Fixed rust on the under chassis rail TODO: Fix brake pedal on the brake switch because sometimes it doesn't disengage Get centers repainted on the SSR Mesh's Get underside sand blasted and painted/under sealed Find center trim chrome for rear lights ugly photos. will get some nicer ones this weekend I repainted the plates with satin black paint, it looks really good, I didn't completely sand it back to the bare metal which i'm actually happy about. makes it look a bit dated in a way with some of the left over paint overtop Then I went to VTNZ. The guy loved it. He also stuck something on my windscreen.. Time to fix the small issues with the car, and drive her around for a bit. happy with how it's come out in the end, proud for a first time project of this scale for it to have come out so well. So, a lot has happened and the car is now running around again for the first time in a long time. I decided that I didn't have time to get an after market ECU and tune sorted, but I did have time to buy a crashed FX-GT with a small port inside, which I could pinch the loom and ecu from and get this motor I have here running. I swapped in some stock small port cams. The stock ecu should handle the rest of the mods fine! so far so good anyways... anywho: Stock small port loom: 2019-02-17 15.20.50 by phillipbaines, on Flickr Unmasked, and all of the unnecessary stuff removed. So I headshrinked the terminals over and just put them on the ecu terminals. they're in there fine and will not pop out but it still annoys me. Getting close now! I got a new center console installed. It's from a KE35 SR and looks the tits I got some SSR 13 x 7 meshies with 215/50 tyres on them Then i decided to tackle the bonnet. it took 3 days.... crikey. Sand Fibreglass bog: More sanding and bogging Guidecoating: More sanding and spot filling I attacked the underside with a wirebrush and then some cans out. Etch primer -> black gloss -> clear coat And painting! Left todo for WOF: Install seatbelts Install wiper linkeage Carb tune Wheel alignment Build discussion:

I've been ticking away at the small jobs left on this car. Badges: New Door seals all round: Mint back seat (back piece). Semi productive weekend, wasn't able to do much. I'm just waiting on parts now. this weekend I bought: Front half of center console (got a line on a rear half so that's good) Front seats (need a massive clean) SR steering wheel Rear shoes and new drum cylinder as the ones in there were absolute wrecked Ordered front pads to do next weekend. I'll get a price to rebuild the front calipers too Old: Fressshhh: Dope wheel: kewl seats: I'll be getting a pro to do the bonnet. it's just too far out of my league to fix. it's bent in funny places, rust everywhere. These bonnets are hard to find so will get someone to do the prep on it and I maybe the paint... will see But in much cooler news................. Water pump leaks, exhaust leaks out the gaskets. but it runs. I'll fix those few minor things too

This weekend I did some wiring which seemed to have decided it didn't want to work since disassembly, to be fair I didn't check anything before I ripped it apart so hard to be sure. 1) Fixed the reverse lamps on the rear lenses to work when in Reverse gear 2) Rewired the KE30 loom to be of KE35 pin layout type, and run and rejuggle new/existing wires to the cluster This is for the reverse lamp, it's a different setup from the K40 that came with the car so had to to do some rejigging with the wiring. I don't have any new terminals so just chopped up some old ones, soldered and heat shrinked them up Tired of looking at this awful bonnet, I brush painted it with black epoxy paint. If I decide to fix all the errors with it one day, I will. otherwise it can stay like this until I find a new one that isn't so buggered I also had a nice VDO tachometer I thought would be marvelous in the cluster. This water gauge too. I thought I could just get it all in there and swap it out for a VDO one later on After chopping and slicing, pulling things apart it came together only 30% of these wires are used, but I thought I would just put them all together anyway to keep them nice and tidy. This is a 24-pin ATX plug most commonly found in computers. I've got loads of these around and thought what a good way to assemble it all **I have two of these clusters so I can always go back to original if need be!!! Another productive weekend. Was able to get the doors mounted and hanged correctly so the line up with the latchey-loopey thing on the chassis perfect so the doors close with ease. Windows going in from the outside lighting you can see it took a while to get everything sorted: Window cleaning, rubber channel moulding, remembering how the divider piece went between the rear glass and rear quarter glass, then finding the correct bolts/screws...
