  1. I brought I new one so I could just beat on the top of the bold with no fear of damage. And it still won't move. Jumped on the crowbar to try force it down but that didnt work either. It hasn't moved at all. Might pay to mention that I'm doing all this with the wheel still on because the rims have lock nuts that the previous owner lost the key too -.- so I haven't been able to get a solid swing on it yet.

Also found out I do need reverse lights as my mum's car failed wof on them yesterday. So that's settles that.

And I've decided I'm just gonna leave the paint for now and if I can be bothered I'll paint it the original bluish colour.

  2. once again i have acquired another car that is not an austin... (regret that username)   BUT never the less this is my new project :)

was a freebee off my mate who is moving to the uk and for some odd reason he though i  would like it.... and i think he thinks im the only person who will put work into it.

so first things first is WOF and i need

    >window wipers

    >lift side steering arm boot ( im think its that rubber thing)

    >reverse lights

(and according to VTNZ its too low but who said i had to go there for wof...)

hopefully can get around to it all this weekend, the only thing i dont want to do it the reverse lights because i am terrible with trouble shooting electrical problems so if anyone has any tips for that it would be much appreciated.

Plans for this beast includes fixing the front bumper, paint both bumpers gun metal grey, then primer the body because surprisingly its pretty straight and virtually rust free.    not planning on spending heaps of money on this so thats why its only getting primer.

    and also sounds,  needs sounds.

there are some slight mechanical issues that need sorting too,  there is a wicked tap in the engine (well i think its the engine, dad thinks its something else)  and it leaks autotrans fluid and diff fluid so ill have to take a look at that too..

anyway thanks guys,    update probably after the weekend if i get wof!!

  3. Ok so i had a couple of days off this week so was able to get a little bit done.
jamie took me to see a mate of his and i was able to score heaps of parts that i really needed for the ute.
got a bonnet, 4x4 guards, back window(with sliding window), bonnet latch, lights and light buckets as well as a grill.

also managed to pull the front bar off the car so i could work on straightening the wheel-well and although it was my first time panel beating and it tool a bit longer, i think it turned out pretty good, well its getting there.

and i put one the the guards on the good side of the car and they seem to look alright but i might end up running 15's just to fill up all that space.

  4. cheers guy that helps heaps!!! i never knew so much about the different models.
i am looking for pretty much everything infront of the windscreen, so doors are not the worry, but from what i understand now there will be a few different ones that will fit so thats a plus!!

I knew there were two different cab sizes for the 3rd gen but didnt know about the doors. You can easily tell by the vent grill behind the door. As you can see mine is a short cab (and, being a 30 series, is also a short wheelbase).

Your issue may be that you are after RN45 specific panels, or 1985 panels. The changeover year was 1984, and most if not all of the 3rd gen hiluxes after this date are Jap imports.

So all the third gen front sheet metal should be the same. Are you going to a round headlight?

i havnt thought about doing the round lights, didnt know i was an option if im honest...

    ps. your wellside look mean!

  5. I would be so gutted if this had happened to me, but it looks like you are on track for a nice rebuild and I hope to see this on the road again.

On a side note if you come across a mint dash pad with no cracks on your travels looking for parts, could you please let me know.

    sure thing :)

and thanks for the positive feedback everyone :)
