hey mate, i recently got a free 1978 hilux 18r ute with a 5spd, off a mates farm he no longer uses, so i'm going down the 18r path just gotta put a timing chain in it, will probs put it in stock for now, then once it gets boring will go down a similar path to you

can't wait to see some updates on this beast!!

i circled the spots as its hard to see, sorry about crap pics, left one is broken off the bottom and the pin is gone, probs wouldn't be hard to make it again though.

does yours have the part thats bolted to the car or is that what you made? maybe chuck a pic up so i can get what you mean haha

ah ok, i'll have a look at the one thats broken, its only broken on one side, my green one did the same, if you want i could try making the broken off part and weld it back together, i'll post a pic of it anyways 

hey mate, sorry i took so long haha, i have 2 number plate holders, 1 is broken where it mounts and the other is pretty rusty, whats yours like?

yeah thats the same basic stuff i wanna do to a 12r, the 18r is a bigger motor so might not need as big carbs on 12r, and i'll have a look later on and let you know, cheers

car looks great mate, how did it go with the bike carbs, i had bike carbs on my original engine (2r) but pretty sure they were off a 250cc bike, didn't know what sort of bike they were off though, i ended up putting a 12r in it, just a stocker, but have a set of gsx 750 carbs i'm thinking of putting on it, wanna build a hotty 12r, but can't decide if its worth wasting my time on a 12r, when a stock 18r will probs have more go than a semi hotty 12r haha, would be cool though.

i like the seats you got, i badly need better seats haha, its like driving on a water bed.... i might try to get something leather or vinyl on the backs but with material inserts or whatever you wanna call it where you sit, coz leather aint nice on 40 degree days haha

hey mate, iv'e not seen any 6r coronas in aus, mind you iv'e only seen about 6 haha, i plan on putting a 18r in mine when my motor dies, just a bit extra power, iv'e had the green rt80 since i was 14, i'm 18 now, it was green when i got it just had to buff it, its due for a coat of paint now so will respray it myself soon, the top surfaces are crows footed, still looks good till you get close to it haha, i like your corona, looks sweet, just love seeing more getting around 

yeah, i think a 8r is simular to 18r but just smaller, i think haha

yeah, they are a bit hard to find, i was just lucky buying 2 complete cars with them for $250 each, whats the go with the rt84? iv'e not seen one in aus, or heard of them, look identical to a 1972-1973 rt81 but they have 12r's, did the rt84 come with 8r or something?

G'day everyone, i just joined the site, been checking out the coronas on here the last few days, very cool, i'm from aus, i have a rt80 that i drive, and 3 rt81 parts cars, my rt80 had a 2r with the same gearbox as shown above, i'm pretty sure its a L43 gearbox, i think the first hiluxes had them, i put a 12r in mine, only real difference is 1600 instead of 1500 and round ports.

Now rt80's came out with the l43 as far as i know,

some rt81's did too, i think the ones that look like a rt80.

the later rt81's came out with a w40, 

i have 2 with w40's i pulled one out and bolted the bellhousing to a w50, then they bolt strait to the motor, just needs xmember mods, tail shaft fits, speedo cable fits, i had to make a plate to adapt a clutch slave cyl to the w50 as it was cable clutch.

if you have a l43 you need to cut the shifter hole a bit, but not 100% sure on the w40 coronas, also handbrake needs spacing down a touch,
