  1. Right I have a new wiring lume, original one off the tt250 that I have spear, I've wired it up, connected the rectifier, and put the new CDI in, and the ignition key system hooked up, and also a battery, still no spark, I've tested the system and there is power, I've even hooked up the original tail light up... So what to do now??? I'm stuck once again, I'll get the CDI off trademe and see how that goes, unless someone has a solution to this problem

  2. Hello all, I have been thinking of making either a jet powered cart or a motorbike, a motorbike would be easy to build, just use the thrust to power it, and a go cart would also be easy as well, just use the thrust again. Or you could go to the trouble of building an external shaft powered blower that runs off your exhaust gasses. It's simple to build a jet engine, by using an old turbo charger off a car or truck, you just hook oil up and make a combustion chamber. I've got most of the parts to build one, oil pump, "old power steering unit",,, fan for the oil radiators, 2 oil radiators for better cooling, and oil filter. You can run the engines on anything really, diesel, petrol, LPG, you name it any fuel. Let me know your thoughts.

  3. Hmmm sounds very possible the stator unit had been rotated back one notch. On my other engine I have the stator unit looks new so could swap it over, there will be no light on this bike. And some of the wires coming from the stator unit on the bike are split but still connected. The valve timing also could be out as she loves to shoot flames out the exhaust and back fire like hell, only when you drop the throttle back to idel, so that's another thing to check. Also what is the valve timing on these engines?

  4. Interesting, very interesting, it will be a hard conversion, as I don't have the tools to do so, I found a light bulb from a microwave don't think it will work, it glows and lights up though, 240v 20W. The chainsaw/lawn mower conversion sounds good, as the engine will always start, and be more spot on, I would need help doing this

  5. Some very interesting moderfications and add on's here, thanks heaps guys, chainsaw mod sounds good, but this bike has no points, just a magneto, CDI and coil, hope one of these ideas work, I'll try a few of these and see what works, what a shame the CDI can't be taken right out and replaced with something that works better than a CDI. Or can a modern day CDI unit off a motor cross bike be moderfied to fit? Probably not but worth a mention

  6. Right I have a 1980 Yamaha TT250, the wiring to head light and battery have been cut, I would like to know if there is any way to run the bike without blowing up the CDI unit, I'm already having problems with it, she likes to cut out and bog down 10 to 20 mins into riding, thsn 5 mins later you can start the bike, then she dies again. Is there any way to save the CDI unit from burning out? Or fitting a new one that does not need a battery to run? I don't need a battery or head light as I'm only doing day time riding. Any help, info on how to by pass this problem would be awesome.

  7. Awesome thanks for that, I will stock up on some xt parts, I've got a complete engine, no carb though, there a nice bike to ride. Had a few problems today, either the spark plug is on it's way out, or the coil, there is no battery or light connected, hope it's ok to run the bike like that. That's how I got it anyway, everyone seems to do it. Thanks for your comment

  8. Got another bike today, turns out to be a pretty mint yamaha TT250 with spear engine, frame, and other bits, starts easy, no smoke, no exhaust on it as yet, needs welding. Other than that, she is pretty mint, needs rest of the plastics to complete it and the air box. Pictures soon

  9. Hi there, sorry for late replies, 77magnum13hundy/ you can take the whole engine and looms for $200 if you wish, The piston is newish in the engine, if you wish to take the engine PM me. Willdat!/ yes my XL runs, it was only $100 bucks so well worth it, the bike will need wiring at some point, but looks ok as it is. KIRK/ That's not a bad idea at all, I may just do that, its getting a cheap enough engine that's the problem, or any old school motorbike engines would do, only if they are thumpers, there awesome engines..

    Cheers
