  1. Hey now now now there is nothing wrong with lucas PI mechanical injection, it's awesome and reliable, people just used to muck with it without knowing what they were doing. There's a reason so many formula 5000s and other race cars used it

  2. Blokes like dean and Brent buist at palmside may have or know of shells but they won't be selling them. I know of multiple sheds with mk1 3 door ss stacked up in them, but their all rally guys and they are all saving them for their next off. That's one reason the price is so high, rally guys pay good money as 2-5 grand for a shell is nothing in the scheme of a 30k - 50k build. I'd almost suggest buying a cheap welder and a buggered one and just chipping away at it in your spare time

  3. theres a rotten as fuck 1300 two door mk1 in a paddock on trademe with a starting price of $3400, and shes rotten as. Pretty much these things dont come cheap now like they did ten years ago. yea Mk2s are dearer due to their rally pedigree, but mk1s aren't far behind now.

  4. probably looking at a couple of grand for an alrightish one, more for a tidy one. There was a bare mk2 2 door shell on trademe that sold for 5 grand last week, no cage or anything, just in good nick. The historic boys are eating these things up so you have to compete with them and their big budgets

  5. Don't take them out right away, give the outside a clean and then jab a really fine feeler gauge between the seal and fork, often it's enough to displace as bit of grime and stop them from leaking

  6. well the trumpy has been running mint, took it down south for our wedding at the end of jan and the engine ran really well, although quite low on oil pressure, an oil change with penrite 20w 60 sorted this. From the journey i discovered a few things i wanted to change

It still had the 4.1:1 diff in it, and even with the overdrive box it still didnt have enough legs for my liking, screaming tits off at 100kmph, although it did pop sweet skids with this in. So back to the parts PI in wanganui i went and ripped out the 3.4:1 and ripped out the shitty leather pinion seal and banged a rubber lip seal in. Went to jims workshop last sat and put the diff in, new one went in alot easier than old one came out, blardy stupid brits making the diff part of the rear subframe!

While i had the old girl on the hoist i happened to look at the flex bush on the steering coloum, a shitty nolathane UJ pretty mush to reduce cabin noise, it had just about completely broken off, was holding on by about 3mm of nolathane, imagine that breaking on the motorway at 110kmph, so thats one of my 9 lives gone.

So i fixed this as adivsed by a guy that races a PI, but im not gunna post on here how i fixed, you can ask me at nats....

Next up was the springs, under advise i had the standard springs compressed, i wouldnt reccomend this to anyway! the became so soft and soggy and shit that i had to get rid of them. So some standard ones were cut 2 coils so they were just captive, bottom arms are now about 2mm off the bumpstops, not as low as they can go but thats not really what im into. still have the rears to do but geeeezus the fronts made a huge difference to the handling!

  7. Terranos are a complete and utter pile of shit, and cant even me compared to an old patrol, those 70's patrols are classic as now, wasn't there a guy on here with a mint baby blue one, or maybe that was on offroadexpress. Anyway i think that once its done up nice and legal and mechanically sounds but still with some character paint etc it would be worth 5 to 10 grand to the right person, but yea all depends on the condition of it. If its got heaps of rust etc that needs fixing / engine issues / just been in a barn for ages and will need a big overhaul id say it wouldnt be worth much more than $800 - $1000

  8. its your car and you can do what you want. im down with just getting it driving, being a wee bit of a purist, it would pain me to see something different going into it, the mk1 2000 are quite rare, especially in wagon form, and i would think that a nice restored mk1 wagon would be worth a fair bit of coin as i have never seen one in nz at all. Or you could put a different engine in it, spend 7 or 8 grand plus getting it all mint and sweet and then its only worth 3 or 4 grand like all the other triumphs that have rovers etc tacked into them.

i have a good nick mk2 2000 here that just needs the thrust washers done, its done less than 1000ksm since abput $800 worth of head work and is just collecting dust under my bench.

  9. Would the Trump carcass fit on an E39 touring or sedan platform? Get rid of everything/most things that are terrible about the British car by replacing it with something precise and German, then pretend it's still British.

These bad boys arent cab/chassis so that would be a bitch / pointless / just buy a beemer. If wanting modern then year hells go for the beemer 6, its been done heaps in the uk and you can find out exactly what you needa do through the interwebs. im bias but if it was me i would get a 2.5PI engine and drop it in easy peesy, throw some HS6 carbs on it and do skids. The trump six is a seriously underrated engine, with a few tickles it can actually go really well, is super cheap on gas for a 2.5 six and sounds fucking horny.

  10. aww so pine, there must be less than half a dozen mk1 wags left on the road, thats rare as rocking horse shit. Even mk2 wags are thin on the ground. I have an array of spare bits if you need stuff but you do live in NZ triumph heaven.

Good good for nats, im going to tee up a visit of Des Faraleys graveyard of like 200 triumphs in Tauranga, appraently the old codger gives you a guided tour, im guessing youd be keen for this?

PS giz me spare gearbox, my od solenoid isnt returning.
