  1. Not very much progress has happened in the past months; Gave the Jag front end a good clean, cut off a few bits and decided how to mount it. Goes low enough with out cutting chunks out of the chassis or front end, which is good. Bought an engine this week as well. A lot of people won't be too happy with the choice but it was really cheap and already has been rewired to suit a project like this. It's a Nissan VH41. Gave it a steam clean today and come out much better. Was covered in dust. Test fitted it and it seems to fit quite nicely, except the inner guards might need some work. Keen to get rid of that ugly spider looking thing and get some ITB's on there. Tell me how I should have bought a LS and spent ~10x as much to get it going: //oldschool.co.nz/index.php?/topic/47317-matts-1951-chevy-pickup-discussion/
  2. Not a very exciting update, but we pulled out the front windscreen. So happy there is no rust. Also gave the top bit off the dash a paint since it was quite faded.
  3. Decided to just paint the bumpers with the gloss paint and see how they come out. It seems to look alright. So it can stay like that. Fender mirrors make it look so much better too.
  4. Pulled off the bumpers and grill today and sanded them back. Decided to try the paint out first on the grill and headlight surrounds. Turns out the paint shop gave me gloss instead of the satin/matte black I asked for. Doesn't look too bad in gloss, better than before. I'll probably grab some matte or satin black to paint the bumpers though, mightn't look right in gloss. Also got a boss kit and pulled the Nardi steering wheel off the racecar to go on this for now, since I am driving this more often. Some fender mirrors and a new front windscreen rubber also arrived. Will get more pics tomorrow.

  6. This is my recently acquired KP60. Its has a 2K and 4 speed, will probably give her an upgrade soon. Only mod it has is some cobra lowering springs, other than that it's all fairly standard. Need to get a new windscreen rubber in there asap, since it's leaking. Short term plan is to tidy her up a bit more - paint bumpers, grill and wheels etc. Are the bumpers and grill/headlight surrounds meant to be black or dark grey? Not sure what paint to use. Might be pretty slow progress. One day.... //oldschool.co.nz/index.php?/topic/48889-matts-81-kp60-starlet-discussion/
  7. Was it very hard to remove the dash? I need to remove my one to change it to RHD, but have heard they're a prick to do because they're spotwelded.
  8. Plugged in another ECU this weekend (thanks Mark!) and runs awesome. It fixed the problem of it running like ass when the VVT solenoid is plugged in. So happy, can actually feel VVT kick in. Also decided to paint the lower door area champagne. Looks much better! Just need to paint the top of the rear bumper/under the taillights white. Did some grass skids the weekend before too.
  9. More progress! Got the top fully welded on now, chassis cut out and the bottom partially tacked. We are thinking of putting the airbags on the outside of the chassis, since they would be pretty close together if they're on the inside. Like the pic below, except the top bag mount will be about an inch or so lower.
  10. I got the c-notch semi welded up. It's welded on the inside to the chassis and plug welded on the outer sides. Also has some reinforcing plate in the middle. Just need to fully weld around the top now, then cut out the original chassis and bend up the bottom piece. Also found a use for the rear bumper.
  11. Attended round 1 of the Manawatu Toolshed Trackday Series on Saturday. Went awesome, apart from the first race when both the shifter cable clips disappeared, so I couldn't change gears very easily. We managed to use some wire and cable ties for a temporary fix. I was running some very worn Bridgestone Potenza RE11's on the front and Toyo road tyres on the back. MyLaps says I got 01:31:479 on my 3rd outing, but doesn't show what I got on the last 2 races. Definitely need some better tyres and brake pads. Here's the 1:31.4
  12. Finally got the c-notch pieces laser cut. So we pulled off the tray and started stripping it back.
  13. I tried somethings to fix the problem, so I disconnect the VVT solenoid. Took it for a drive and it goes mint! The solenoid seems to working properly when 12v is applied to it.
  14. It has a decent hesitation for 2500-3500 rpm when I give it above half or more throttle. Starts popping/backfiring etc. So checked the ecu codes and came up with #25, which is Air-Fuel Ratio Lean. Any ideas on what things to check?

  16. @nickrock, like this? http://www.stanceworks.com/2014/06/roads-less-travelled/
  17. Pulled off all the junk off the back and put the front back on, so we can start to C-notch the rear end. Took out the diff to see how low it can go and to get some measurements. Can still go a little lower in the rear. Needs about a 7 inch C-notch. 5 inch will be sticking through the deck, which is a bit annoying. Time to make up some cad drawings so it can get laser cut at work.
  18. I was thinking of going 1UZ since there seems to be plenty of them around and they're much cheaper than an LS from what I've seen. An LS would be sweet though. Still got ages before I'll buy an engine anyway.

  20. This is my '51 Chevrolet Pickup. I finally got some motivation to work on it after owning it for about 5 years. I bought it back in 2010 with help from my parents, when I was 14 turning 15. It was 100% stock, farm spec when we got it. Was originally from Bakersfield, CA. Had the straight-6 blue-flame engine which has been sold. Currently sitting on a jaguar front end and Holden LSD rear end. It's the longwheel base model, which I wasn't too much of a fan of, but it is growing on me. The extra long tray has been good for storing parts and boxes. Has hardly any major rust, just a hole is the passenger's foot well were the heater was leaking. The plan is to keep the body as is, slam it more with airbags, and chuck in a v8 (probably a 1UZ) Already have new rubbers, chrome badges, handles etc and airbag kit. Next major task will probably be to c-notch both the front and rear to get it sitting where I want / as low as the ground will let me. //oldschool.co.nz/index.php?/topic/47317-matts-1951-chevy-pickup-discussion/
  21. Made some aluminium door cards. Looks much tidier and I no longer have to slam the door to close it, since the original ones were hitting on the cage. Still need to do something with the blue above them. Might just carbon fibre wrap it.
  22. Finished the oil cooler setup. Damn fittings and hose can be expensive. Also new tow strap since I have a pair of the other ones and want to use them for some interior door handles, once I can afford some aluminium sheet for door cards. Front toe is way off as well for some reason, so will defiantly need to take it in to get a wheel alignment before driving it too far.
