Thanks Joker, but his information is already out there (people were actually linking his name to me even though it isn't yet mentioned in the Herald), so I assume it was already out in the open and a lot of people can identify him now. Plus you can Google him to see a whole string of articles on him prior to this

Thanks guys, I'm just bloody stoked he's been caught eh. The car back will be a bonus but he's a very dangerous guy and I'm glad he's locked away. The name's Cameron Anthony Ross, and he's 37.
Oh, and he was sentenced to 9 years in jail back in 1999 (not just let out a few months ago), and has been back in for other offences since then, including impersonating a police officer and stealing that Evo.

They've caught the bastard.

They also know who the girl is and she will be caught soon too - no word on the car yet, but I'm sure it will be recovered soon enough now (or at least the whereabouts of its remains - hope not). I went into the police station yesterday and was told that I couldn't tell anyone but they know who these guys were and just had to locate them, as they are known floaters between North Shore, Whangarei, Taupo, Hamilton, etc. both are serial offenders and have countless firearms, burglary, car theft and meth related charges. He just got out of jail after a 9-year stint a few months ago for armed burglary! Remember that North Shore policewoman who gave uniforms to the two guys who went around to that Evo owner's house and took the car? he was the one who did it.
I've been told due to his prior convictions that he's going to get a minimum of around 10 years in jail (maximum of 14) and she'll get around 10 years.

Wow, once upon a time eh! Good to see those pics. When were they taken?
The 86 goes in for rear dent removal and front guard chip fix tomorrow morning. I also changed the plates back to standard issue so that I'm not murdered by angry car enthusiasts thinking I'm the offender oh, I bought a facelift front grille too, so that can go on once I pick the car up -
Thanks everyone! As this guy was stupid enough to walk into a McDonald's prior (let alone driving around North Shore with hundreds of people having reported seeing it), I knew/know it's only a matter of time before the prick gets caught. Like a wise man once said:
In regards to the media, I've been contacted by: Prime News, 3 News, One News, ZM, More FM, Good Morning show, Newstalk ZB, Stuff, NZ Herald (the first people to get in contact with me)... and possibly a few others. I pretty much ignored them all (because I didn't 'really' want to be forced onto TV when I've had all this exposure anyway), but as NZ Herald called the police to call and confirm with me, I let them do the article - which I think was a good move as another couple of thousand people shared that from the link directly and it was front page of the NZ Herald yesterday... when ever a better time to have your car on front cover than a Sunday morning?
If they do get the car back, I'm not even sure I'd want to sit in it again at this stage. We'll see when it's recovered anyway how it goes in person.

Thanks guys. Obviously a bit too trusting/naive coming from the safety and seclusion of living in Singapore for the last 10 years, just wouldn't have even crossed my mind that two fairly normal seeming people (as in, they were just casually sitting on the benches, casual/tidily dressed, prior to the incident and there were enough people around to think that I wasn't going to be car-jacked) amongst a loud and rowdy group of drunk teenagers, I thought dropping them several-hundred meters down the road would be an easy enough good deed to tick off!
Lol, Brick. Picking up random girls for benefits isn't something I'd ever consider doing... not my style! Ah well, shit happens. Let's just find the prick. There have been a lot of sightings of this guy on the North Shore still apparently, a few in town, Tristram Ave turn-off, pulling on to Paul Matthew's Drive coming off Upper Harbour Highway at the lights (the corner the new Carl's Jr. is going in and Caltex is) at around 1am (an hour after the incident took place), Millwater (Silverdale) just idling on the side of the road by a truck driver about an hour after the incident also (I don't know which one is more feasible, as all sightings have been Glenfield/Albany/Upper Harbour highway based and also Silverdale/Orewa/Red Beach), many sightings around Orewa and Red Beach in particular, but this is my locality, so could just have been spotting me. A guy at the gas station today swore that at 5pm yesterday at the lights coming down into Orewa he was sitting behind my GTR with the STIG plates on. I'm hoping he didn't just get the day wrong, but I don't think even the day before I was driving the GTR at that time.
As the two got in the car they mentioned if I was heading towards Orewa, so possibly as he was dumb enough to walk into the McDonald's he might have let that slip as well.
The video clip should be up on NZ Herald, Stuff and across the news channels tonight, so have a watch and see if you or anyone you know is able to recognize him!
Cheers,
Shaarn

Can't come guys, this isn't going to work. I'll have had 2 hours sleep in the last 3 days at this rate and that's too big a cruise to be sleep deprived

Cheers everyone, it has blown up big time on Facebook with over 2,000 shares and I doubt he'll be able to get around too far without being noticed by someone (if it isn't in a million pieces of course). A few people have been saying today, in the same sort of area, that the car has been seen "boosting hard" down the motorway, but couldn't be 100% sure if it was my car because none of them could make out the plates. Hopefully it isn't in parts anyway, but at this stage who knows how abused its been.

I'll still tag along to that if others are going too

Thanks guys for all the kind words, much appreciated. I've just got in now after trying to recover some cards I had in my wallet, but my phone's gone too and they've turned it off (can't be tracked any more). I'm so surprised with how many people have got onto sharing this and helping out so quickly! Across all the pages so far I've counted over 600 shares, even at this relatively early hour, so I couldn't ask for more from you lot.
It was a pistol with quite a long extended silencer barrel on it pointed directly at me from close range, it was isolated and in a wide-open space. So there wasn't anything I could've done to stop him from taking the car. that was all that was going through my head the whole time, I couldn't give a crap about anything but him actually taking the GT-R, lucky I didn't take a swing at him though because the McDonald's staff who have been able to identify the same man as me said he was in there earlier ordering whilst sweating and touching the counter top (which was fingerprinted), so could've been under the influence of drugs and probably would've shot me if threatened.
The good thing is there are like 20 security cameras inside the McDonald's there, and at least a few of them were active and they reckon they should have a few decent shots/footage clips of him, so here's hoping!
I don't hold out much hope they'll recover the car now, but if they can get this guy and his missus that was with him, that's the next best thing is to getting the pricks off the streets and locked away.

Hey guys, I've just had my White R34 GT-R V-spec (numberplate: STIG) stolen tonight, held at gun point at Albany McDonald's. I think they headed southbound on the motorway, but not 100% sure. If anyone sees anything or knows of the car's whereabouts please don't hesitate to contact me via my Facebook link below. Cheers
Here's the link with a photo of the car:

KK edit - looks like the bonnet is an easy identifier - It's a carbon fibre fluted version.

I'm heading down early(ish). Not in an OS car though
-
-
I'm fine with whenever, I'll head down for the museum anyway. Do you have lap times from previous karting events? Might just go and smash your records while I'm there...
-
Keen, same deal with not bringing an OS car for museum though
-
Think I'll bring the white wolf to be safe, don't need the 86 getting flagged for any reason on the way down (a couple weeks out from the drags!). Is there decent parking at the karting place? Glad the weather looks like it'll be clearing up for us over the weekend anyway

Haha, cheers guys. Yeah, I know what you mean. I'll just go standard guards and flares to match the rear (or just get new flares all-round) when the time comes
-
I'll be wasting money on the other little things that need to get sorted first, most people seem to like the fenders in person. It's at the end of my list of priorities, but still there.

I overheard them talking from the tree I was hiding in and the organizer said they are thinking of doing one more this year
-
Oh, if we can still run in bad weather then I'll go out too

What's the go if the forecast isn't looking too flash? Is it an outdoor track only?
