  1. Hi, just in the process of panel work on my Mk2 escort .It has original daytona yellow paint under a respray daytona yellow. I have rubbed the paint with lacquer thinners to try find out what type of paint is on there. The original paint comes off dead easy onto a rag which according to the net indicates the original paint to be enamel. The respray slightly comes off on to the rag with lacquer thinners which according to the net indicates lacquer. I have read lacquer over enamel is a no no as the solvents in the lacquer are too strong and react with the enamel. Although talked to a paint shop guy today who said as long as you laid the lacquer on very lightly and slowly, it is ok as this gives time for the solvents to escape. This probably proves why there is disasterous paint cracking over most upper surfaces.

    My questions are:

Does any Ford man know what type of paint the original 1977 daytona is most likely to be,

and does anyone in the know proffesionally about paint, know if what I have written above is correct.

Many thanks, this is turning into a bit of a nightmare. Ian.

  2. Ive always found (on Nissan rbs anyway) as long a resonator as possible after the extractors takes a lot of crackle out, then what ever muffler further towards the rear.

  3. brand new s13 rear coilvers with a 2 stud to 3 stud adaptor is best for the rear, obviously need a cert. For just a cheap daily that's low but not as low as my build, just get a pair of r32 front shocks and springs, put your standard r31 top hats on them, (with rubber locator/isulator, not a perfect fit but more than good enough if you centralise the spring on it). For the front, just go find a non abs cefiro and throw the whole lot in with l300 rack ends. Just need custom brake hoses to be legit but they only cost me about $100 delivered from apex auto centre I think in Hamilton. Initailly I just modified some in a lathe to make sure they work.

  4. Yeah has the epic tape deck with joy stick fader balance combo. Run the headlight covers, just waiting to get pinged with them on haha. I give this car a hammering round corners so this ride height is a good compromise between negligible rear rub and looking half decent. Also legal at this height. Yeah the only thing that is accurate on the trip computer is the time haha.

  5. This is my 1988 silhouette. Rb30e. Bought it stock as a rock and high as a kite. Made everything myself over the past year and a half. Started to build my old r31 but this came up and had to have it so transferred parts between the two and sold old car off standard.
