  1. wow, that's just like the one my Dad had as our family car when I was a lad, in the late 70's. in fact, it must be within a few months of our old one - less than 1500 plates between them (ours was april '73, IIRC). it'll be an nz-assembled 16L made at todd motors. ours was metallic green, with dark brown interior.

yes, they rust out badly at the top of the guard, below the A pillar - I think there's a mud trap around there. it's a feature.

you even have the original factory door mirror. might I suggest you don't put wing mirrors on, they were the preserve only of the GS japanese assembled editions (my mate's Dad ran one of them, orange with black interior and the white GS stripes on the seats.

great to see one of these on the road. you even have the original wheels - kudos.

    thanks for the nostalgia trip!

  2. Yup.

Had a shitter Hyundai accent come in 15000 km over due for service.

    Knocking its arse off.

Banged some castrol Techion oil in. Shut it up almost instantly.

    Silent now.

thanks for that, I'll commit that to the memory banks may be very useful!

  3. perhaps all of the solvent's gone now, and it didn't set while it was there. you could try a heat gun to set it.

I'd be freezing it off, doing that section again, and ensuring there was some heat *NOT A NAKED FLAME*. BAKING on a sunny day might help.

  4. yes, the leopard is doubleplus swanky, with performance as well. you'd have VG power; the manual only came with 2 litre models. you could luck out and find its a VG30DET. [edit: sorry, earlier you said it was the turbo - so you have indeed lucked-out with the VG30DET]

    surely worth pursuing.

my sister's father in law used to run one of these, it certainly had something about it.

I found this thread, which should give you some interesting info on nissan-lego for the suspension.

    can't walk away now, man.

  5. inspired work, using those e34 flares. where did you discover the bodylines matched with the e30? brilliant!

love to know how much material you remove before welding them on.

any progress on your powerplant selection? here's some swedish options:

    * B234FT or FTX - about 190hp,

    * B5234T from the 850-T5, 5cyl 225hp 300nM and a TD-04. or B5254T from the S60/V70 I'm sure there's plenty of length in the bay for the 5cyl, and the song it makes is addictive. Not a lot of info on RWD conversions, though the second link has useful info on adapting to volvo 240's and they recommend the Tremec T5 transmission. From what I've seen, you've the skills to do the machining for the adaptor!

+1 on 'keep up the good work'. watching this one with interest.

EDIT: oh here we go - e30 T5 build thread

  6. Admittedly, the Rx-7 will serve as the Nats backup if I somehow fail to get coupe ready in time, but I wouldn't take it on the track.

I would be quite happy with this amount of slam. Tastefully low, without being too outrageous. Steelies are a nice touch too!

curious, given at the time nobody would have driven an RX7 on steels. hell, it's not a commodore!

  7. A guy from the Alfa club owns it, together with (back on a 2009 garage crawl anyway) a Lamborghini Espada:

That's the practical Lamborghini, for taking the family to the supermarket etc.

See, fully-grown men can fit in the back:

He rightly believes in driving these cars properly / no cobwebs in his carburettors.

back in the day, Paul McCartney had an Espada.

  8. if it wasnt' me with the cars and i was voting i would vote the wagon too but it might just have to wait for 2014 nats by then bit of coin may have been spent on it and be more user freindly :) anything can happen between now and nats tho ;)

so you're telling us el rancho wasn't really a choice. at this rate you'll be taking my 850 T5.
