  1. speed limit over the bridge is 80 ;)

haha yeah but getting to it is 100.

Google tells me they make about 7.5Kw, so 100 might be be possible on the flat, without a headwind, without any luggage, drafting behind a truck and when the sun, moon and stars all align to give you maximum solar sail efficiency.

What is the weight of the C50 stock? Are you aware of how shakey it's going to be at 100kph?

almost stock i guess, have chopped the tail off, and bars will be a bit lighter.

Otherwise it will have new everything, wheels, bearings, shocks etc etc, i'm thinking if those lifan/vespa copy things can make it over surely I'd be able to?

  2. Already neck deep in the project, thought it might be a good time to ask.

I'll be using it around Auckland, over the bridge (not when windy haha), so there's a hill.

Does the lifan 125 manage to bring speeds around 100km/h with the right gearing? (preferably 110 really)

Can't seem to find any info on whether 1. it will sit at those speeds 2. not blow up after a few trips.

Have considered the 140, but that's just a 125 with a longer stroke = more torque but nothing higher in the revs?

    Appreciate your experiences/fuck ups/warnings

  3. Been doing a bit of reading and finding opinions that you need something that goes as low as 30a for panel work, is that true?

Mitech 160 (http://www.pmtmotorsport.co.nz/160-amp-inverter-single-phase-mig-welder/) looks sweet but only winds down to 50a, weldtech 180 has different specs depending on where you look (?), magmate 180 isn't listed anymore and I haven't heard much about it's replacement. What are your experiences? Thinking 1k would be enough for a starter, wanting to do bits of panel work here and there + subframe mods later on.

  4. Honda motorcycle oil pumps have the same weird nut thing. What's the diameter of yours? I have a socket you could borrow if it fits. The official service tools are just sockets with prongs, mine is a ground socket like you say. Printed a paper template and went at it with a grinder. Piece of thick pipe would probably do just fine too.

Rough measurement brings the nut to about 25ish mm? Appreciate the offer & might have to take you up on that if it doesn't free up soon. Will keep hammering away .

Weld a bar onto it and chop your frame into something wild!

Haha love it, I'll stick with something a bit more sedate though. The frame is too solid to alter completely. Thinking of chopping the rear guard though & lower for sure.

  5. Some of you may know I picked up this v50 a while back off P_star, who also lent me a helmet (thanks mate)

49cc of 2 stroke fury, it's been serving me well as a general run around, getting me to work, smoking up a storm etc.

Plans are to keep this one as it is really, with the addition of a leg shield and the missing rear pod (both incoming).

So yeah I have a problem, enter the project c50.

    hu0i.jpg

Got it running, went for a hoon which was mega lols due to an exhaust with more rust than steel. (Looking for one in good nick if anyone has it kicking around).

Then proceeded to make a mess on the driveway.

    d3cz.jpg

(Note the essentials strewn everywhere, 2 hammers + screwdrivers as pry bars)

Frame almost stripped except for the stem

    apl0.jpg

Bastard nut holding progress, anyone know where to get the right socket/tool?

    grdn.jpg

Bit of damage on the rear guard (+ a touch of rust)

    evc7.jpg

Also bought a pretty sweet helmet/bubble shield combo, so damn comfortable.

    brfg.jpg

Now I'm unsure what to do with the c50, it's really solid bar the rear guard so I'm hesitant to chop it.

Can anyone point me in the direction of a good metal worker that could sort the damage? Would need to be a metal only job as I'm thinking of getting the lot sandblasted then powdercoated.

Pros/cons to powdercoating? Issues with colour matching plastic bits? Seems far more economical than a full paint job to me, but hell, I know nothing.

Thinking a lifan 125cc motor will go well in this, with a bit of a gearing change to increase top end speed.

Might go with a manual if I can figure out if the clutch will work on the scooter, otherwise semi auto.

Anyway, comments/criticism welcome. Help a brother out, or tell me I'm nuts.

  6. Mainly been working through the small things for a while now, 1 vacuum leak sorted, 50 to go.

First thing was making some sweet ramps so I can get the jack under

    3hbk.jpg

Colour matched the front valence, didn't strip the chip guard, it's pretty sweet I reckon.

A bit of maintenance, oils, coolant, filters, plugs, all the essentials done. Air filter was especially bad, this was after trying to vacuum the damn thing, binned it.

Removed stupid bonnet foam that keeps sagging and filling engine bay with dust, reaaaally messy job, make sure you use drop sheets or whatever over the engine bay 'cause the shit goes everywhere. Also, Desolv-it is the business.

Bit more intake noise coming through to the cabin, stoked!

    h5dw.jpg

Oh, managed to rub through the exhaust, bit too much noise, made me pine for a tractor though,

    5uhp.jpg

Now runs under the axle, inline with the wheels so fairly safe from bumps,

    di5d.jpg

All in all, shit runs better now. Once the rest of the air leaks are sorted I can work on the timing, isn't much point beforehand since it'll be out of wack every time there's a fix.

Think that's about it! Till next time..
