  1. If I wasn't already having to get a bunch of other things painted at Rob's, I'd go talk to GT for sure. I don't want to be "that guy" who takes the info and runs somewhere else.

Honestly, I've found most tradesmen/artisans to be pretty good about sharing info if you're up front ie "Hey, I've heard you have an amazing match for xx colour but already committed to so and so with a few other parts, would love to get the paint info if you're okay with it." They appreciate loyalty, time wasting is usually the biggest gripe.

Other than that, I've been lurking your threads for ages, A+ you are a man of fine taste.

Been wanting a z650 forever, almost settled for a cb750 but this came up in the nick of time. I think I read every possible FAQ and service bulletin before getting my hands on it!

Not much to report so far, new tires and WOF sorted. Already has the suspension pretty well set up so that's one thing off the list. We'll see where this leads.

(still no spark on the s90z, will keep trying though)

  3. I've started motorbicycling to uni/work etc recently. Usually you're more forgiving in a car, but holy balls it amazes me to no end how many dreamers there are on Auckland roads. Every few minutes some numb nuts crosses lanes out of the blue. Half of them drive 20km/h below the limit sitting in the fast lane, the rest are on their bloody phones.
TL;DR imminent death has made me aware just how retarded the majority of the population is.
I lay on the horn/rev the tits off the bike/lose my shit every time. Those fuckers need to be called out.

  4. I can't bring myself to bodge it up! OCD spec haha
I would remove both inner and outer skins by the spot welds and weld new panels in, only way to do it right and remove any chance of the menace creeping up again!
Returning to stock may be an option (with the 2.3 motor), no longer have stock springs etc anymore though. Got a bit carried away and the engine bay is essentially empty now anyway (all bagged and tagged at least!).
I'll have a hunt and let you know about the door handles

  5. Calling it quits on this piece I think. Have found rust in both rear wheel wells (stupid BMW double skins) which would require replacement of the whole panels + realignment of the shock mounts and all that, just no time/money for that sort of work.

Make me an offer, have a lot of parts/spares to go with.

  6. Ah good advice! Any idea of the differences between the 15 & 16 units? Look identical to me, same motor, pump, tank capacity but no specs available for my one. Thinking I'll just assume they have the same output when considering tool purchases.

  7. I agree, looks a bit off at that hight man. Probably a whole lot better once the engine is in and front camber is dialed in a bit?
Also having so much of the tyre tread exposed contributes a bit I think
I respect you keeping the original lines, but a slight pull of the front guards would make an immense difference and you could certainly keep the oem fold along the edge.

In reality I know nothing, Just keep doing what you're doing man!

  8. Right, sick of trademe drongos with misrepresented compressors & people swiping just as I ask for a buy now.
Does here work/have connections with Hindin Marquip distributors?

Will bite the bullet and buy new, after the 16cfm dual control model, trade or cash pricing would be awesome if at all possible.

  9. shit it looked rad!

Yeah once! It will be ready for Nats '16 I promise, then we can have e21 races yeah?

    Hay man

Had a big chat with Brent the other night, top bloke, looking forward to seeing his car come together.

He said u were getting his 323 motor. Good work on that. Looking forward to seeing another e21 on the road again.

If I can help in any way just yell out.

I'm keen to see how your coil overs ride on the street.

Are you planning on doing the disc rear end swap when you do the sub Frame?

I have been looking at rear disc conversions using the drum hubs turned down to fit in a vw disc with a vw calliper and custom bracket. Able to be fitted on to drum trailing arms. Easier than the rocking horse poo factory discs.

Yeah Brent is a top man, and that car is going to be ridiculous when done! Going to be using his 323i motor while I build the 2.8 (long term, needs cash injected that I don't have).

Happy to give you a ride when it's back on the road, I'm sure Sparkle will attest to this, they're nothing short of brilliant.

Going disk rear end yeah, I lucked out and grabbed all the bits off that rust bucked I scrapped earlier!

I'd keep an eye out for the 323i setup, you never know man. Being unloved, a whole bunch of e21s have been scrapped over the years.

Just my preference, but I always prefer to use factory bits haha.

  10. So at around 7pm last night I got sick of dancing with the stars or whatever and went into the garage.
Stripped all the carpet, underseal etc off.
Use dry ice they said, it'll be fun they said! Well yes but I'm not going to find dry ice at 7pm. When motivation hits you run with it. Heat gun + scraper =
    2lsi443.jpg

Removed about 30kg (yes I'm a weirdo and weighed it) in underseal and that rubber/foam underlay shit.

    What's that in the corner?
    34njkgo.jpg

What you see there is the jack support, footwell skin has completely disintegrated & I can push that square out easily haha, fuck...

New panels on order from Walloth&Nesch.

Also had surgery today, nice and high on codeine, so I'll make the most of it and start attacking the tar/glue residue with Paraffin tonight, stay tuned for fun/fails.

OH and if I ever meet the original owner I'd like to buy them a beer. Every surface/nook/cranny is caked in fish oil, saved this car no doubt.
