So I finally got a pair and bought myself an older ride.

It's an '81 318i fuel injected 5speed, runs mint, stacks of receipts, picked it up from Christchurch and drove it home overnight to Auckland! One hell of a drive in the stormy weather, stock suspension and minimal tread width made it interesting but we made it.

Planning an m42 swap in the near future depending on if I can suss some garage space, picking up some interior bits from hamilton today so she'll hopefully have a clean dash soon. Otherwise I'd like to go against the grain, pick up some oldschool jap wheels instead of the generic bbs rs/euro combo, should be a bit of fun.

Pictures, obviously what you came here for:

  2. Yeah it's got me a bit stuck, paint is apparently 18 months old. No signs of rust anywhere else (wheel wells, floor pans, undercarriage, pillars, boot etc) but what is shown has got me thinking it must have been a quick/shoddy job? Don't get why someone would have gone through the trouble of stripping the car down to a shell yet skimping on the vitals.

Cheers for the offer nzstato, I'd take you up on it but have just moved to auckland (also where the car is), been slack about changing my location

  3. Have come across a damn tidy Datsun 810 ('77 with L18) which has had a recent panel and paint according to the current owner. Definitely looks the part but there are two spots which worry me a bit, can anyone tell how large of a job this would be to sort out from the pics below? Hoping someone with more experience can help since I'm merely guessing/can't figure much about what might be behind the paint. Don't want to buy the thing and find out I'll have to cut a heap out.

And lower rear quarter, just behind the drivers door has another bubble

  4. Ah they look so niceeee, gonna be mint on that '76 of yours. As an update I've put off getting the lips done until I move back North in a couple of weeks, though I am refurbishing them as we speak. Funds for lips just aren't at my disposal at the moment.

  5. So I just nabbed a set of Weds Professor Mesh 3pc wheels for a wicked price, aren't welded shut either (stoked). Problem is I've been struggling to find a source for wider lips. Seems like most (all) of the stock overseas is for BBS/Volk/some other wheel brand with a different bold pattern. Has anyone had experience finding lips for old school Weds wheels?

Searched and read that there have been issues with Gavin and 41degreewheels as of late so a bit hesitant if that's the go. Rims in question are 15x7 + 35, 36 bold pattern lips, hoping for a final setup of 15x9 +10 (-12.7 offset for every inch added to the outer if my maths is right?). Any help would be great thanks.

  6. Loooong time creeper eh..

    Name: Berj

Location: Dunedin (3rd year down from Auckland for uni)

    Cars you own: '97 na8 mx5

Mods to them: K&N panel filter, front indicater delete, some sparco(?) wheels it came with on 195/55 balloons, HSD HR's 9/6k

No pics because my poor ass is on the student budget. Will get hold of a camera soon.

How you found out about oldschool: Came across it when looking up 4age swaps in kp60's (previously owned one) ages ago, think it was kpr's build I saw actually.

Anything else you want to add: Anyone in Dunedin ever catch up on a regular basis? Keen for some good chat.
