xafordgod
Discussion Thread //oldschool.co.nz/index.php?/topic/22621-xafordgods-thumping-460ci-ute/?hl=falcon#entry580785 Righto, this old girls been sitting in my workshop now for a month or so with out me doing any work on it like I should be. Too busy fixing other peoples cars....lol. So after going through the project cars threads has made me wanna do some more. Anyway she's a xc ute that was the previous owners daily driver for 15 years ( big block and all was fitting 12 years ago ) untill I bought it. He moved to aussie so I bought all his falcon stuff including the ute. All the hard work was done just the body was a bit sad. 460 bb ( thats 7.6 litres of grunt ) and c6 ridgeback, dedicated LPG, 460 torker intake, electronic ignition, twin pipes, lsd disc brake diff, 28mm front sway bar, heavy duty springs. Drives and handles excellent. Sits on dragway 14 x 7 with 245 BFGs. I drove it for a year ( had her nearly 2 years ) untill warrent of fitness and lpg tank expired and parked her up. Awesome tow car with loads of torque. I was going to do the big pull down but have just decided to just give her a tidy up and paint and get her on the road again coz the xd ute just dosent cut it for towing power...lol. It will get fully restored at a later date. I bolted repaired front guards and taildoor on ages ago so they are done. Door shuts are painted so its just the left door, both rear guards and roof to panelbeat. Rust wise its not too bad, below is a pic of bottom right rear guard. Just painting it satin black. Will put up more pics as I progress. Cheers, Brendon
xafordgod
Just cut out rust on bottom of right rear guard and now have new panel sitting in place ready to weld. Heres the bad bit. Cheers, Brendon
xafordgod
Roof and left door now are repaired and primed. Roof had some old repairs that I had to dig out and redo. Front pillars had rust which I repaired prior to fitting replacement screen due to old one being cracked. Door had minor rust in both front and rear lower corners that I fixed. Wasnt too bad. xafordgod
New bottom guard section is now all welded in. Got good door gap and body line is fairly straight. Will need minor filling to be perfect. Was rust killed and copper sprayed in behind guard and also on back of repair patch before welding. Only just got more rust kill and copper spray today hence why it has only just been welded in. Also been busy repainting a truck. xafordgod
Here she is. All painted now. Time to put handles, locks, windscreen chrome, lights etc back in. Decided to paint it today instead of tomorrow. Looks ok, not perfect but certainly alot better than what it was. Cheers, Brendon
xafordgod
Rear end with lights fitted. Door handles, locks and windscreen chrome on. Yep, 460 under the hood. Another shot for the hell of it. Cheers, Brendon
xafordgod
Ok, Done a little more today on her. Been busy fixing another xa falcon coupe for the last 3 weeks so this has just sat around. Back into it now. WOF & REGO soon. Refitted new second hand carpet ( good old parts cars ) and painted and fitted another console as the original was stuffed. Also gave complete interior a clean as it was all dusty. Fitted roll bar and rear cover. Just have to modify cover around where rollbar goes down into deck. Cheers, Brendon
xafordgod
LPG tank is now in getting tested as we speak. Forgot it was xmas/new year and everything was shut.... So that will be ready for me on friday so this weekend I can reinstall the tank to the ute then down for a warrent of fitness on monday. Muscle car madness car show is happening in 2 weeks so Im keen to get this and few of my other cars to the show. May even put the ute on the burnout pad....... xafordgod
Right, Took the ute in for lpg wof and it failed. Failed on a few things that werent sealed properly so I have just finished sealing up a few things and will now pass. The box on the tank had to be sealed along with the lpg hose casings. Also had a warrent check done on the ute and that also failed ( not my day today...lol ) Failed on steering column binding ( going to replace with yet another column ) Improve parking brake travel ( have fixed ) R/F indicator dull ( fixed, lose earth ) Mufflers leaking ( cant be much of a leak coz I cant hear it, or am I going deaf?? lol ) and exhaust manifolds leaking, not by much but enough to worry them so that is a good excuse to fit these. Pacemakers that are out of a xc coupe with 460 in it so these will go straight in. Gonna have fun fitting them tho, as there aint much room in the engine bay as it is. Also since mufflers are leaking, Im going to replace whole system and exit the exhaust in front of both back wheels. Will be road legal in a couple of days. All in all, the repairs are easy and overall its a good ute. Cheers, Brendon
xafordgod
Well, I am now currently fitting headers to the 460. Doing the left hand side first. After unbolting and moving idler arm from chassis rail, I managed to fit header up from under neath. Now the number 7 cylinder pipe is just brushing the strut tower by millimetres. I am currently doing a dummie run to see how they fit. They are tight but I am about to shave a little of the strut tower so the pipe will clear. xafordgod
Left hand header is now on and fits good. Just gotta do drivers side tomorrow then shes all done. Yep just gave the strengthening plate weld a little blip with the grinder and mint. Fits like a glove. Oh yea in second pic, its not dodgy steering. I just havent re-attached the idler arm yet...lol Cheers, Brendon
