  1. Managed to source a mint condition grille for $500. Pretty sweet score considering I've seen these go for $1500 and up. Stoked!!
  2. Sprayed the etch on today. Great to get that bare metal covered up!
  3. All ready for a coat of etch tomorrow. Dunno what it is about the r100 rear end. Bloody gives a guy a raging semi I tell ya!!
  4. Took me a good hour to blow all the leftover media out from in the crevices of the car. Used the compressed air gun with the booth fan on high!! Was a dust storm but ended up getting pretty much all of it. Blowing out some big boogers already!!
  5. Got the car in the booth. Spent half the day underneath with a heat gun heating up the floor then scraping the sound deadner off from inside. Cleaned up the remains with thinners. Came up beauty!!
  6. I bought the car from Ontario where they salt the roads in the winter and it's humid as in the summer. Pretty much a recipe for disaster. I'm in Alberta where they use calcium and magnesium chloride mixed with sand on the roads because salt is pretty much useless after -10. Was bloody -30 two days ago!! I call it "spanner weather" coz it really tightens the nuts haha!
  7. Chassis rails are pretty good but the one side where the sway bar mounts is going to need some work. I'll throw up a couple of piks later. Cheers!
  8. It's an r100 - deserves the best mate!!
  9. Cheers guys!! Should keep me busy for quite sometime.
  10. Picked the Are One Hunge up from the blasters ready to give it a lick of etch. Turned out slightly better than what i thought. Got the underside %100 too. Only filler was around the rear quarters. Its pretty bad in that area.
  11. Dropped the bumpers and tail light surrounds off at the chrome platers . Should have them back by end of Jan 2017. Bloody hell can't believe the price of chroming. Daylight robbery!! Oh well they will look sick when done. Cant beat shiny chrome r100 tail lights!!!! Also need to find someone to restore the Grille. The mesh is paper thin so I need someone who knows what they are doing to alloy weld up the one hole where it looks like a bird has been hit or something.
  12. Loaded up and off to the blasters. Getting the car Plastic Media blasted then coated in etch primer. Should have it back early Jan 2017.
  13. Worst spots for rust are in the usual places - lower guards, sills and rear quarters. The roof around the windows, chassis, floor boot and engine bay are fairly rust free.
  14. Spent some late nights and got the car completely stripped back to a shell. Snapped a few bolts on the way but thats the way she goes. Stoked to get the glass out with no troubles. Vinyl roof came off better than i thought. Skinned the ol knuckles a few times trying to remove the under dash bolts. Man these cars a designed for little Japanese fellas not big Ogres like me.
  15. Removed the engineering marvel that is the 10A engine. Ready to give it the PP treatment at some stage down the line.
  16. Picked up this lil beauty the other day. Time to get to work!! Thought I'd share the barn find that I just picked up. She's a one owner fully complete r100 with 30,000 on the clock. Funny story - the 80 year old owner bought it brand new in 1971 for $3500. He wanted $1500 but I knew it would go quick so I offered him $2000. He replied "you have a deal son. $2000 sounds like a fair deal if you take into consideration depreciation" I agreed haha. Because I'm living in a different part of the country I said how would you like me to pay you. He said "I don't trust any of that fancy technology stuff so I'll only take a bank cheque" so I had to overnight courier a $2000 bank cheque that took two days. The car has been sitting in a car port type set up for years so the rust is kind of bad but not crazy. Needs a fair amount of body work done. Other than that she's complete. The 10A engine is a replacement. He said that he had it replaced in 1973 under warranty and since then it's done only a few thousand km's. I currently have a lot of different ideas floating around on what I'm going to do so lets just see what happens one step at a time!! Project Discussion -
  17. Bloody beauty boys. Cheers for the info!!
  18. Hey guys so I'm doing a full ground up build and was wondering if anyone had any ideas on the best way to replace or cover up the factory holes where rubber plugs usually are in the floor pans or fire wall. The originals are all perished or missing. Would rigid heat tape or just weld a plate over them be the best option?? After any ideas thanks!!
  19. So technically I could list my Ford falcon as a rx3? Also he said there is no option for 808. Still a little confused here.
  20. Can someone please explain to me how the latest black 1974 808/rx3 on trademe can have an 808 firewall stamp but be registered as a rx3 on the cert plate?? Pretty sure the window rego must say rx3 too. Cheers.
  21. Shit Kicker that's pretty sick ay mate. Kind of a burgundy/red/brown. I googled brown Cedric and a bunch of mug shots of black dudes came up. Guys by the name of Cedric I assume haha!!
  22. Yeh mate I've been checking out that colour. It's called "Pyrite Brown" Let me know what you fellas think!! Also what you think would look good for interior!! Cheers.
  23. Brown has always been timeless, looked like shit and never been an "in" colour haha. Also looked into two tone which is about as big of a gamble as brown.....
  24. Yeh G'day. I'm sure a lot of you have been in the same boat. Ive been racking my brain day and night trying to decide on a colour to paint my r100. I want to go outside the norm of red, blue and other basic common colours. To decide on an outside colour - the interior colour needs to suit. I have had my heart set on an all white interior forever but could sway away if need be. I have been researching some browns. Seems to be some really nice browns out there these days. That's a different colour for sure. Would be a balzy move to paint the car brown and have an all white interior. Anyway just wondering your guys thoughts regarding interior and exterior colours outside of the norm. Cheers!!
