Guest jesselc
Ok so after bending my axle and buying a replacement one I have one with a 25 spline (original) and one with 22 spline (bought one) sooo I'm in a pickle as obviously the new one won't fit, but the flange where wheel mounts to and the wheel bearing are the only parts I need, is there some way I can swap these over? It's a sigma rwd, need this fixed ASAP as I cannot drive anywhere now :/

Guest AllTorque
Is there a collar next to the bearing that will need to come off 1st? If so these pretty much get destroyed to get them off. You will get a new one with a new wheel bearing kit. Might be easier to find the correct axle. Are you sure it is just the flange that is bent? Guest azzurro
usually the bearing retainer is a shrink fit onto the shaft - a specialist task to add and/or remove it, but would be easy to take the two shafts apart with a grinder but then what? how would you refit one of the fucked retainers or fit a new one? how sure are you that the axle is not bent - bending the flange and fucking the bearing suggests the shaft is probalby worth replacing too? Just get the right part bei.
Guest jesselc
Yup it has a collar :/ for some dribbledick reason mitsubishi decided to change spline patterns even on the same year!! Axle was bent but bent it back to shape at course with a press, just the flange that is bent now and wheel bearing is destroyed in every possible way, well I thought I had bought the right one as axles are same year sigma, really didn't think they'd make 'em different, does bnt or repco do new sets? This is probably a ridiculous idea but would cutting and welding the good/fitting parts of the two together be strong enough? This is a bloody nightmare!! Guest Rookie
Yea sure, you just have to heat treat it properly afterwards. Big deep V too.
Guest flyingbrick
Jesus just get a new axle. Buy complete axle assembly if you have to. There are many skilled people who would not attempt cutting and welding axles. You are NOT one of these skilled people so just leave it alone. The consequences of the axle/flange failing are huge
Guest jesselc
Yeah but finding them is hard hence the hope in me finding the right one in this one! Yeah didn't think it was a good idea haha where on earth do you find an axle for a sigma brand new though, don't mind paying its just the finding of it! Guest AllTorque
If that axle is slightly bent it will wreck a wheel bearing in no time. Have you tried a Parts Wanted thread for a sigma diff. Someone on os must have one for sale.
Guest jesselc
Already tried then got linked to the dude who I bought axle off, they're not that rare I thought there'd be more available!
Guest Borgweiser
Pick a part brov, happy to help you fit one. Chopping and welding an axle be dumb idea from experience. If it's bent bin it. Mitsubishi's for the most part are intercompatible to the day, one of their good points. Gotta be a good L300, L200 Sigma or whatever those big horible aussie built things are diffs at the wreckers. May even get a better ratio.. edit; Magna was what I meant..
Guest jesselc
Haha I have no problem fitting them, just a case of finding the bloody thing! I'll do some hunting tomorrow hopefully not too hungover!! Cheers for the offer man, well the one that is straight is the one that was meant to go on so now I'm stuck with the original fucked axle that's been driven on since the curb kiss and this alien that won't fit, but which has the straight bits that I need! Guest Unclejake
usually the bearing retainer is a shrink fit onto the shaft - a specialist task to add and/or remove it You don't really need to be a specialist. You just need an angle grinder, cold chisel, a hammer and a toaster. Anyway, as others have said: The best option here is to purchase the correct axle. Guest yeah yeah na
fit a complete diff if needed, bit extreme i know but maybe a last resort??
Guest jesselc
yeah was hoping it wouldn't come down to that, it's more just trying to find a complete axle, if i really had to do it i may as well branch out and fit a starion one with an lsd
Guest KIRK
go back to guy u got axle off and take the rest of the diff and put that in. easier to replace the whole diff than swap an axle and replace bearing anyway lol
